Favorite regular cookbooks for a Primal diet?
I LOVE this new board! I am such a foodie, but I have found that my health is much better when I follow something between Mark Sisson's Primal and the Perfect Health Diet by the Jaminets. I suffer periodically from gout and feel awful eating wheat, but I still love to cook. I am wondering if you have any favorite "normal" cookbooks that, for the most part, fall well into this kind of diet. I am really looking lots of veggies and healthy fats and smaller amounts of animal protein. I have found The Garden of Eating, Karen Barnaby's Low Carb Gourmet and Cuisine for Whole Health that are pretty good. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!
Favorite Greek Recipes
In another thread on Easter menus, I was given a great looking skordalia recipe. Now I am inspired to do a complete Greek menu for Easter. I love Greek food and I was wondering if anyone had any Greek recipes that are favorites. Thank you in advance!
What's For Easter Dinner?
That looks wonderful! I will definitely try it. Thanks for the ideas.
What's For Easter Dinner?
I was interested in doing a Greek Easter this year...do you remember what you made? I would love some ideas.
Help with Christmas dessert
That sounds wonderful. Would you mind posting the recipe?
Help with Christmas dessert
I have a recipe for a lemon posset that I have never tried...that might be perfect. Thanks!
Help with Christmas dessert
The meal that I am making for Christmas is very heavy - a lobster bisque, risotto and beef tenderloin. I wanted to make cheesecake for dessert, but the dinner itself is so rich I think it would be too much. Anyone have an idea for a lighter dessert? I thought about a mousse, but that is still pretty rich....
Thanks in advance!
What's for Holiday dinner 2011?
Lobster bisque, arugula salad, mashed potatoes, amaretto cranberries, sauteed mushrooms, beef tenderloin and chocolate covered strawberries. :) I'm hungry now!
Good Marcella Hazan Stew?
I want to make polenta for a dinner party and I thought about topping it with short ribs or stew. But I have never made any of Marcella's stews (I have all of her books). Has anyone made one that they really like? Or what do you think of putting the bolognese ragu over the polenta (I am allergic to wheat so no pasta :( )
Thanks in advance!
Favorite recipes from Radically Simple
I am having some colleagues from out of town to my house for dinner and it is on a weeknight after work. I was trying to come up with a really quick and easy menu that I could do easily and have ready within 2 hours. I love Rozanne Gold and especially her Radically Simple. I think this would be the perfect occasion. Do you have any favorite recipes from this book or do you have a menu from it that you especially like?
Thanks.!
What cookbooks are on your Christmas list this year?
That one is definitely on my list of contenders! I love Jacques!
What cookbooks are on your Christmas list this year?
It seems like there have been some really great cookbooks this year and I am sure I have missed more. I always buy myself a cookbook for Christmas so it made me wonder what is on your list this year?
What is your favorite Alice Waters recipe?
I love her food philosophy and I was curious if anyone had any of her recipes that were so good that they are in your standard rotation. Thanks so much in advance!
Ideas for a Chocolate Cake with Vodka and Coffee drink
I have a friend that love Whynotte Whippets which are basically shots of Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka and Whynotte (a coffee flavored energy drink). I was trying to think about how to make this into a bundt cake, but I am not sure how the alcohol would affect things. I'm not sure if it would be better to put it in the cake or just make a glaze from the two ingredients.
Any ideas?
Best Yule Log/Buche de Noel?
Does anyone have a really great recipe for Buche de Noel that they just love? I want to make one this year and I havent made one in years. The last one I did was primarily orange buttercream and vanilla cake with chocolate vines, but I am leaning toward maybe orange cake and chocolate buttercream.
Best dessert?
I love to try new dessert recipes. One of my favorites is the triple chocolate mousse from Cocolat. What is the best dessert that you can remember making?
Paleolithic Diet Recipes
These all sound very good and healthy. I will check out the cookbooks. Thanks.
Paleolithic Diet Recipes
That is why I really like Mark Sisson's website. Its paleo, but it encourages some dairy and it doesnt put you out to pasture if you have a bean. I think it is a very healthy, balanced approach. I cant say I will never have a grain again, but I know I feel tons better when I treat them like a special occasion food item instead of eating 6-11 servings a day as the US guidelines suggest. But I totally feel your pain on the extreme programs. I think you just have to play around until you find what works for your own individual body.

Souphie:
What great ideas! Thank you very much. I love Mark Sisson's website and that is what has inspired me. I feel so much better not eating grains, but I love to cook and find it a challenge sometimes.
Paleolithic Diet Recipes
I am trying to follow a diet that is mainly meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. I cant seem to tolerate grains and I am trying to minimize dairy. Does anyone have suggestions for recipes or cookbooks?
Favorite Green Salad recipes?
Now that spring and summer are almost here and fresh produce will be at it's peak, I want to eat more salads. I love vegetable salads and eat them all the time, but I feel like I am in a rut with my normal recipes. Does anyone have a salad that they just LOVE?? Thanks!
Best techique cookbook?
These are all wonderful ideas! Thank you so much for your help. I will probably use a little bit from all of these. And I am very proud of my son...I wish I had had the sense to learn this way. It took me a lot of years!
Does anyone know how to make Lancusi?
I had lunch at a Bolognese restaurant in Milan last week and had a fabulous dessert called lancusi. I believe it is Sicilian. It is a frozen sorbet/gelato made from nuts and fruits and then put back into the "shell" of the original nut or fruit.
Best techique cookbook?
I have that one and totally forgot about it! Great idea. Thank you!
Best techique cookbook?
My 16 year old son has decided that he wants to learn to cook. However, he told me that he doesnt want to learn recipes, he would rather learn the techniques so that he could "improvise". Does anyone have any suggestions for a cookbook that I could use to build sort of a lesson plan for him? I am a pretty good cook, but I am really at a loss on the best way to teach him (e.g. start with sauces, braising etc). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Cookbooks for Protein and Veggie diet
I have found that my health is much better if I eliminate things such as potatoes, rice, pasta, and corn. So I am pretty much left with proteins, veggies, fruits and nuts. But I still love to cook. Does anyone have suggestions for cookbooks that are especially good in these kinds of foods? Some of the Italian stuff seems to work if you skip the pasta chapters, but I was wondering if anyone else has some suggestions. Thanks!
Recommendations in Volterra and Montepulciano
Thanks for the help. I will probably have to settle for pasta, which is fine with me! I have spent about 4 months in Italy over the last year so I can handle most Italian menus. If there are any great local places that I can get by with basic Italian, I am in!!!
Recommendations in Volterra and Montepulciano
I am taking my 13 year old daughter to Italy for the first time and two of the places we will be visiting are Volterra and Montepulciano (my daughter is a huge Twilight/New Moon fan obviously). Can anyone make recommendations for good places for lunch in one or both of those places? Great pizza and pasta would be exceptionally good for my daughter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
A Sunday from Milan - would love to go to Piemonte
If anyone finds themselves in the same situation, I had the most fantastic day! I hired a tour guide from www.tastingtours.it She was fabulous and very knowledgeable. I went to a food and wine festival in Asti and then toured Alba, Barolo, and Barbaresca and visted several wineries - all in one day! One of the most fun days that I have had in Italy.
