Recommendations for one mind-blowing meal.

Wow EaterBob, this sounds like the height of indulgence! There are some great ideas here, but even though I can eat a lot, I don't even think I could make through all these places. I guess it will have to be my birthday week!

I have never even heard of Maison Christian Faure but it looks delicious. As for the restos, is there any one dish you would highly recommend?

Recommendations for one mind-blowing meal.

Hi lagatta. I specifically didn't put any restrictions because I am always game to try new things. I can be blown away by anything from a corner dive to fancy upscale. There is really nothing I refuse to eat, except grapefruit... and aspic.

Recommendations for one mind-blowing meal.

It has been a while since I have posted here, so I am a little out of the loop.

My birthday is coming up very soon and I have been asked to pick a restaurant to go to for my birthday meal. I turn to you, my Chowhound friends, for your recommendations for your favorite restaurant. I will not put any restrictions as to type of food, location nor price, as I have a car and am willing to try anything... twice.

If you could choose your ultimate meal, where would you dine? What would you order? Would you stay for dessert or would you choose another spot for your ultimate dessert?

I look forward to reading your suggestions.

Breakfast and Lunch recommendations by the GWCC?

As usual, I have planned all my dinners for my upcoming trip to Atlanta, but I haven't given much consideration to breakfast or lunch. I will be attending a conference at the Georgia World Congress Center and therefore cannot stray far from that area. We are staying near the CNN Center, so any place near there is also fine for breakfast.

Petinos - anybody been?

Hi kpzoo. I much prefer Petino's to Cosmopolitain. In terms of quality, I find the food fresher at Petinos... never a wilty piece of lettuce nor dried up fruit to be found. As for my issue with potatoes, I find Cosmopolitain's version very bland. The texture also does nothing for me... not mashed, not solid. In terms of service, I have found the service at Cosmpolitain very slow at times and quite impersonal. The staff at Petinos recognized me from my second visit and they always greet us with a welcome that feels sincere rather than obligatory. I like the humble welcome back type of feeling in a breakfast place.

Petinos - anybody been?

Petinos has become my go-to breakfast place. Breakfast is probably my favorite meal to go out for (right up there with dinner... and lunch). I have tried every place I could think of on the WI that would live up to how I felt for Mickey's back in the day.

The staff is very friendly, welcoming, and courteous. The one time my dining partner had a small problem with her meal, it was quickly rectified by the staff, and a hot, new replacement plate was served in a very short time .

The menu is vast, and everything I have tried has been extremely fresh and delicious. Portions are huge and the potatoes are actually very tasty (I am rarely a fan of breakfast potatoes).

I realize you were asking more about their lunch fare, but if the quality of their breakfasts are this good, I can only assume the same will hold true for their lunch items. Besides, with such a variety of menu items, you are bound to find something that satisfies.

And now... I am craving Petinos breakfast. I will most likely go tomorrow.

Orange sherbet dipped in chocolate ice cream bar - where to find in Mtl?

You might try checking out Aubut near the Atwater Market. They carry Iceberg brand ice cream.

Baraka Grillade/BBQ Sur Charbon

I reviewed this place on the West Islands's Best Kept Secrets page, but felt it deserved it's own thread. My taste buds tell me this place deserves a nice review because the quality is good, the price is reasonable, the people are super nice and the chicken is out of this world.

Baraka Grillade/BBQ Sur Charbon has been open right beside Mourelatos on Saint Jean for about seven months. I dropped in for the first time on Saturday and had a small Shish Taouk brochette on pita and a small filet mignon pita. I got both sandwiches with their creamy hummus ans spicy marinated eggplant. Hands down, this is the best Shish Taouk I have ever had! Both the chicken and the filet mignon were extremely tasty and tender. Much tastier than my previous favorite, Abu Elias! I was so impressed that I went back the next day and ordered their whole spatchcock marinated chicken. It was excellent too. Everything is made fresh to order, so it is a good idea to call ahead to order in advance, allowing one hour for the whole chicken. I didn't try the potatoes or rice, but they looked very tasty. This place was also very clean. Super friendly owner and staff and excellent value for the money. In fact, why cook chicken at home? Their "family deals" are a great deal. This is my new favorite place.

How about the brand new Cristal Chinois, located on the 6th. floor of 998 St. Laurent? Brand new and absolutely beautiful inside. I ate there last night and the food was excellent. They are definitely big enough to accommodate your group.... heck, they are big enough to accommodate an Italian wedding!

Creamy Speculoos in Vancouver?

Does anyone know where I can find speculoos spread? This is a creamy spread made from speculaas, those thin and tasty spice cookies. It comes in a jar similar to peanut butter, under the brand name Lotus. Speculoos spread is highly addictive... a must try.

Lampascioni (Lampagioni) in Montreal?

Does anyone know where I can buy some pickled lampascioni? Native to the Puglia region of Italy, these look like little pink onions but are actually the bulb from the hyacith family.

zero chocolate bar?

I have heard this too. Some d├ępanneurs carry them through the summer, but you have to check the refrigerators. Costco also usually sells both the milk and dark chocolate varieties by the box-full. This may be seasonal too, however.

Cartel Street Food?

Just a quick note to let everyone know that they are offering free lunch today (drinks extra). They have a set menu of their items offered as a tasting menu. Places have filled up fast... maybe some places left after 1:30. I am going at 1:00... fill you in later.

CABANE A SUCRE & ANIMALS

Exactly what do you mean by this? Do you mean if they allow dogs on the property, or if they allow them inside? I have been going to La Goudrelle with my daycare for several years, and they never mind me bringing my dogs too. The dogs however do not go inside; and, they are always on leash (otherwise my husky would have a field day with the llama).

This years bottle is by ISSEY MIYAKE. Has anyone seen them in the stores yet? Aubut usually carries them but doesn't have them. Does anyone know who is carrying them?

Finding Monkey bread in Montreal??

As far as I know, no bakery here makes Monkey Bread. Usually, Monkey bread is one of those made at home guilty pleasures. It is made by rolling balls of sweet frozen dough (like Pillsbury), dipping them in butter, rolling them in cinnamon/sugar, and then pressing them into a bundt pan. The cake is eaten by hand, pulling off the gooey gobs of dough. Now I'm craving.

Fantastic Food & Fabulous Fun

Any type of food will do. We are from Montreal where ethnic restaurants are a-plenty and varied. Just in our gang of 13 women, we are Italian, Greek, Chinese, Jamaican, Russia, French Canadian and Scottish. Nice ideas so far... keep them coming. Any food related events happening in the LA area within the first 2 weeks of November?

Fantastic Food & Fabulous Fun

We are a group of Montreal women attending a conference near downtown Disney in about a week. I am a big foodie, they just want to eat inexpensively and in a fun atmosphere. We will not have access to cars, but are willing to take cabs as long as it is not too far. We are looking to cover 5 dinners as a group (13 people), 2 dinners as a smaller group (6 people), breakfast and lunch - close by the convention center. I will be staying on an extra few days and am also looking for a few romantic spots. We will have rented a car by this point, so transportation is not an issue.

What is the best Hot Dog brand in Montreal?

I am a big fan the Schneider's Juicy Jumbos, with the Hot & spicy being my favorite. They aren't a Montreal product, but the company is Canadian.

Birthday freebies?

Remember Mother Tuckers where you could have a free buffet on your birthday? What ever happened to those types of offers?

I know Tutti Frutti offers a free breakfast on your birthday (thank-you to them... I am heading out for breakfast now). Do any other places give freebies for the birthday person?

Pintxo - My Review

Hey marblebag! I went on Saturday night! My favorite was the seared foie gras on lentils with sherry vinegar reduction... I could have had several of those. Other favorites for me were the beef cheek and the goat cheese ravioli with duck stew.

Macarons in bulk

I know Gastronomia carries nice macarons in boxes of 72. The flavors are chocolate, vanilla, pistachio, lemon, raspberry, and coffee (12 of each). They also carry other flavors/brands in smaller boxes, but I prefer the standards. They are located on Richmond, 2 minutes from downtown.
