Help finding the Best Pizza at the North Jersey Shore?

Pete and Elda's is history. Only a mecca for Bennies who don't know much about the area, and need to get the free tshirt after pigging out. Maybe it's a good thing that they do still exist, like flypaper for the Bennies, to keep the good secret places from overcrowding especially int he summer. : )

LUIGI's in Point Pleasant Beach. A favorite of locals. Always consistent perfect thin crust. In business in the family for decades. This be the place.

Sand Bar in Brielle?

From a local, and many others agree that Red's is now more or less a touristy ripofff. Priced at about $50 for a 1.5 lobster at Reds, there are other nearby places that offer up more and better variety, along with more than just a side of average cole slaw and a potato or fries. The ambience is nil as well as the service. Better quality abounds a mile or two away from the BENNY hubbub of the boardwalk area.

German or Polish Food

I dined recently at Fritzy's and was absolutely delighted. I had the traditional wiener schnitzel and was very satisfied. With spaetzel and delightful gravy it was an ultimate comfort food experience. The house salad with German vinaigrette was great, as was the soup. The black forest cake was a treat too. Fresh, light and fruity. The service was friendly and efficient and I really look forward to returning soon. http:/www./fritzysrestaurant.net/

Lola's Latin Bistro Metuchen NJ

On a recent visit to Lola, I was somewhat disappointed. This cramped restaurant is boisterously loud—in the realm of a bar atmosphere, without the bar. The music was decibels too high. There was BYOB (one plus for the place) but mainly, the service quality lacked tremendously. There was unnecessary confusion amongst the wait staff in getting orders correct. Additionally, the overaggressive waiter's and busboy/girls' urgency to remove plates before we were done eating became annoying after the third time. The modern latino menu appeared interesting, and my marinated skirt steak was tasty although COLD and lacked any vegetables other than a small dollop of guacamole and a small serving of salsa relish on the plate. Without appetizers or tapas, we would have left a bit on the hungry side. The black bean & tostone appetizer was very tasty and a generous serving. The flan for dessert was however disappointing. It was very curdy; and not at all smooth in texture. The presentation was nice, but did not deliver. Generally, the food and service was not up to our expectations and disappointed. It seemed as though the restaurant had just opened that day and there were just too many kinks and errors to be fixed. The table we ate at was haphazardly constructed and somewhat unstable! We spent $50 per person for dinner (entrees average $22), with a few appetizers, desserts, and coffee. I definitely would not run back.

Good Jersey Bakery?

They make a good crumb bun, but not worth the long wait. Other than that, the breads are ok, notelably the rye—the others are just adequate. Better Italian varieties elsewhere nearby/ Kaiser rolls are good. Pies are average. Made to order cakes with cannoli filling are tasty. Otherwise somewhat overpriced (by they way, why are the prices such a secret?) and the wait to be served is absurd. Overrated for average baked goods.

Point Pleasant~recs

My dining experiences (other than very late dining or eating at the bar) we subjected to VERY long waits to get a table and/or be served. There always seemed to be some sort of chaos attached to the dining experience. The food quality was ok, but who need the chaos?

I was very disappointed the last time I ate at Red's and vowed never to return. The food was mediocre, service was fair at best / someone unattentive, and overpriced for their qualtiy and style of the food. It's really more or less somewhat of a tourist trap for those craving the "near the water" experience. As a local, I've learned that it pays to travel inland just a little bit for much better food.

Thai food in Central Jersey

SIAM BASIL in NJ (Sea Girt area). Has anyone been there lately and how was it? There never seems to be many cars parked there, so I'm a bit leery of it. If it's worthwhile, I'd love to know of dishes & favorites worth trying.

On my last visit to Harpoon Willy's my burger bun was stale. I certainly wouldn't run back there.

Best burger in Mon/OC?

On my last visit, I waited about 5-7 minutes, which wasn't too bad. That's probably why they have the barrels of peanuts around and free refills, just in case things are backed up a bit. I love that place tho.

Best burger in Mon/OC?

5 Guys makes a great burger. Many people find the smaller burger just enough. The standard burger there is a "doubl"e, and can be a bit much unless your're starving. The many (free) topping choices are tasty, and the fries are fresh, excellent—they definitely please.! By far, the best "chain" burger around. I prefer it to most bar/resturant burgers. The Broadway in Point Pleasant has had good burgers. The burger I recently had at Harpoon Willie's had a stale bun. Boo!

I will take out pizzas from the Squan Tavern, but will only dine there for an emergency late late dinner. All of my dinner time experieces there have been disasterous and I would never subject my friends or family to the chaos there. The reward was average food amidst the chaos, often wrong orders and bad service. That's not for me. Their pizza however, often pleases—takeout for that is the trick.

Point Pleasant~recs

At a recent visit to Captain Ed's the food was fair. Best to stick with the special of the day. I was in the mood for a decent classic fish fry which has become strangely enough, difficult to find in the Point Pleasant area. The meal was rather humdrum and very very average. and the fish that was served was definitely the frozen variety, served with somewhat anemic fries. Overall, somewhat lackluster and the service was the same as well. Best to stick to the daily special dish. Some folk admire the "stoned" entrees, which seemed a bit labor intensive for me. I just wasn't up for the dinner that needed my cooking assistance. It's a gimmick that many might gravitate to, but it's nust not for me. Also, for an off-summer-season visit, the service was somewhat rushed and inattentive. It wasn't a BAD dinner, but as a local, I certainly would not rush back by any means. There are other places that do way better with the food and service.

spring lake, shore area

That's really sad. That place was one of few civiilized restaurants around the area, with a great view from the dining room and a very nice menu. The special events nights seemed like a interesting counterpart to the regular diining experience, but certainly not enough to replace it. What a shame. Maybe it will fail in it's new form, and then reopen again under the ownership of someone else. Let's keep our fingers crossed. That's just pathetic news.

Looking for Lizano Salsa (Costa Rican) in NJ

Looking to purchase that great Costa Rican LIZANO SALSA in central / southern New Jersey. If all else fails, I can order it online, but I figure that it must exist in some small Costa Rican or other grocery stores. Any clues on finding it in NJ?
