Opinions on Meritage??

Here's the verdict -- It was definitely worth going. A perfect place for a romantic night out. What actually impressed us the most was the service, which was possibly the best we've ever had. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and had great recommendations, and all of the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I felt well taken care of the entire evening. The wine was also fantastic. The best -- St. Supery, Virtu -- now stands as one of our favorites. We also loved being able to get a variety of small dishes; we each got three, plus a shared dessert plate. The best of these were the dessert (chocolate; particularly the creme brulee), the scallops with turnip puree, and the lamb chop. The presentation was perfect throughout, and the food overall was excellent, though not quite at the same level as the other top restaurants we've been to. We weren't drooling over every bite as we have at No. 9 Park and Radius. Still, we were very happy we went.

Only one big hassle, related to the big theme here of parking -- we drove from Jamaica Plain, a trip of just a few miles which took us a full hour in the most horrific, stressful traffic I've ever been in (and I've driven in Boston for many years!). I was literally shaking when we finally got there. Any time we go in the future we will take the T.

(One more nice thing about Meritage: I was excited to realize that valet parking is complimentary, which makes a big difference in a relatively inaccessible area.)

Thank you very much! We are indeed going, with much anticipation. I'll report back on how it is.

I'm trying to decide where to go with my husband (a serious foodie) for our anniversary next Friday. Meritage looks fantastic from many sources, but I wanted to get the word from local Chowhounds before trekking out there. Is it as good as it sounds? Worth the prices (or at least nearly so)?

Thank you!
