Jyuban - Ramen place in Markham

Just read Kate's review in Globe....I live close to downtown and want to know whether anyone who's been there thinks it's worth the trek out to try.

In search of Hong Kong's 'BEST WON-TON NOODLE'

One year later and here we are at Mak's on Jardine Bazaar again. First place we went to after we checked into the hotel a block away (booked the hotel for it's proximation to Mak's). Had two bowls of wonton noodles, like last year, noticed that the price went from $27.00HK to $30.00HK.
The noodles and the soup are fabulous. Like a few others on this thread, i am from Toronto, and the noodles/soup in HK were a revelation, compared to what I get in Toronto. Just cannot compare. I'm quite sad about that.
Having said that, I have to note that the wontons have lost something of their shine...there is a distinct porky sensation wafting up one's palate as one is chewing the wonton that is unpleasant. Anyway, as I am reviewing this thread, we will definitely be going to Mak's on Wellington the day after where hopefully I can get a full shrimp wonton.
On to Fu Sing Seafood in a couple of hours!

Great Dinner Tonight at Rikishi

Rikishi is a regular haunt of ours and has been for the past 16 years. It is consistent and the ambience is very nice after a long day (very quiet). The husband and wife owners are the main chefs (husband on sushi counter and wife on hot prepared foods.) Although it is a small, unassuming restaurant along the Bloor St , it cannot be compared to the cheap, what I think of as "quick and dirty" (not literally dirty, just the "get-'em-in, get-'em-out attitude) places. It is not fancy or high end, and some of their items are ubiquitous (salmon teriyaki dinner), but other dishes that can be very ordinary, are done with great skill (kinpirigobo - the fineness of the carrots and burdock is always a pleasure to me).

So while I and my family would recommend to just about anyone, it's always with caveat....never go unless you are feeling relaxed and patient. They are not fast there. There have been times when we have waited 35-40minutes for our food to arrive, because there is only one person in the kitchen. I know this sounds bad, but the food is always very respectable, and like I said, we just take a deep breath and talk about our day (in hushed tones). When my husband is not in the mood to wait, we don't go there.

Venice and Milan: Local, authentic, but not super high end?

Brescia for business. Milan because it's close to Brescia...Trying to squeeze a couple days of pleasure with the business. I'll definitely look for the post about Corso Como. I'm absolutely unfamiliar with the way Italy is set up in terms of their addresses. It's all very confusing.
I'll look up Lonato and see if we have time to go. Time is pretty tight in Brescia, if only because I'm trying to scrape together as much time in Milan as possible.
Does anyone have any "MUST TRY" they would like to share?

Venice and Milan: Local, authentic, but not super high end?

My husband and I will be in Brescia/Milan the last week of Oct. We won't have a car in Brescia and so I've resigned myself to just "discovering" good food (we takes our chances which hopefully will be good in italy). We hope to be in Milan for about 3 days and staying the the Hotel Spadari and so finding this board is a boon, especially with the last rec. I am looking for just about the same types of places, great food which highlights high quality local ingredients, definitely wanting to avoid tourist traps.
Thank you for the suggestions and I'll keep checking to see new additions!

In search of Hong Kong's 'BEST WON-TON NOODLE'

Hello! Relative newbie here but have really enjoyed reading this thread.I love wonton noodles and will be in HK in 4 days for only 2 days. I was trying to parse out in which place would I be able to order wontons with only shrimp filling....and failed. Can someone help me whittle the list down? (I made my own list but realized that I just don't have that much time or that many meals unless I have wonton noodles the whole time I am in HK.)

Thanks very much!

Pittsburgh for 4 nights

Thanks mcharles and six dower, this is great (lots of choices that sounds good.)...I find that concierge rec's can be really hit and miss (sometimes we get sent to a total tourist trap!) but chowhound members recs can almost always be relied on for a decent meal. Will post back if there is anything outstanding.
Thanks again!

Soba (Pittsburgh)

Thanks for your suggestions, VictoriaL. He was not feeling well tonight and so wasn't that interested in eating but these posts are great. He doesn't need a lot of restaurants, just a few good ones so thanks for the helpful hints! (Life is too short to eat at a whole string of mediocre restaurants while one is travelling just because one doesn't know any better!)

Pittsburgh for 4 nights

Hi all,
My first post. Hubby is going to Pittsburgh for a trade show tomorrow and I normally scour these boards to find places that is worth going to. Pittsburgh came up a bit dry. Does anyone have any recs for areas around the Westin Covention Centre hotel at 1000 Penn Ave? Nothing fancy necessary, just good food, value for money. Ethnic is fine (but we live in Toronto where the chinese is pretty good so probably no chinese) but no steak houses as he does not eat meat. If farther away no problem as long as it's worth the cab fare.
Thanks very much in advance!!
