LCBO - "Wines of the old world" class - any reccomendations?

Sounds expensive without food. They better pour good wine for that price and if they don't list them than you can expect lower end stuff.

Nouveau Beaujolais-Any Pre-release Reviews?

Try but at $15 bucks for real Beaujolais there are many better world options such as New World Pinot especially on closeouts.

Nouveau Beaujolais-Any Pre-release Reviews?

Midlife most people don't move the wine around in your mouth and only hit the tip of the tongue. If you remember the sides of your tongue are sour and back is bitter which is almost all wine so maybe you should try moving the wine around in your mouth as it will make a difference on what you taste.

Nouveau Beaujolais-Any Pre-release Reviews?

Yes it is marketing and the people drinking it slam it and don't taste it any way. If you think about it most wine is marketing. Look at the sucess of yellow tail, two buck chuck, mondavi private selection, etc. They are in magazines and they are cheap which is a good recipe for selling wine.

I love the people who go to Napa and go to Korbel, Beringer, Mondavi, Hess, etc. They are the people buying the BN.

Man Vintner - Cabernet Sauvignon

Just ask a local wine shop to see if they can get it. $6.99 is what is going for on the web.

wine opinions

No they won't which is a shame but if you swallow any wine without smelling or moving it around in your mouth they all lack taste. This is why Pinot Grigio is popular from Italy as it has a little more taste than mineral water sometimes less.

Tim McKee....and Il Gatto?

None of their restaurants have good stemware. You think Manny's would but you have to ask for Riedel's.

Sea Change restaurant at the Guthrie

If you think the service is bad at Sea Change you have seen nothing compared to the private events at the Guthrie. The servers are not trained and would rather take a smoke break than work.

I have never thought much of Sea Change and would not go back.

Do French people drink foreign wines?

I would hope they drink good German Rieslings along wtih Port. Also Barolo and better US producers should be available. I don't get those any where that just drink a specific region as there is good wine from the major areas of the world.

Best food in or near Eagan?

Pardon my French has a weak wine list and I disagree with I Nonni. It is a top 10 restaurant in the Twin Cities especially when Jay is your server. He could teach almost every server in this town how to do it.

Best Box Wine?

I am sorry if I missed a rec but how has anyone not mentioned Big House???

Black box is drinkable but Big House for the price is amazing wine.

The 2009 Big House White is a great everyday drinker and for 3 Liters around $15. The red is a bit sweet on the palate but very nice also.

Downtown MSP : Palomino out, Crave in.

Palomino was always good not great and they offered free parking after 5:00 which is a plus downtown. I ate at Crave for lunch and it did not appear to be a place I would travel to again.

Domacin would be first on my list. See if they offer a half priced wine night.

Reception advice needed for a large Minneapolis wedding

I think you need to scale back your amount of people as 400 people at $10,000 is $25 a head. Where can you even get an entree let along a rental, sides, etc. for $25 a person.

200 people is more realistic at $50.

Oregon wineries for a Burgundy Lover

St. Innocent as mentioned will be the closest thing to Burgundy. Argyle is really more new world Pinot with big juicy fruit.

Favorite Wine Bar Twin Cities

With the recent mixed reviews of Bin Wine Bar what is everyone's favorite wine bar in town?

(Most) winery clubs are for suckers

Kay,

Well done. I hope people read this and learn they are not a good deal and you are right that they are buzzed and don't know what is going on.

I would also add the silly wine of the month clubs into this discussion. They prey on the beginners and of course ship during all months.

MSP - Bin Wine Bar - Lowerton St. Paul

Istereo,

Thanks for giving honest feedback. Wine glasses are almost always something of a disappointment. I am still waiting for someone with real wine skills to open a wine bar in this town. I was at Riverview last week and some glassware and maybe a worse wine list.

How do you prefer to buy your wine?

I just buy based on my own palate combined with Cellar Tracker, S.T., Parker, Spectator, etc.

I also buy at some of the best prices in America. The local indedpendent wine shop can go out of business for all I care as they are paying top dollar for their wine and passing it on to the consumer.

Amen to the big retailers that buy great wine!

How to choose bottles of wine when doing a tasting menu?

Just get a bottle of Pinot Noir. Should work with most dishes.

2007 Cloudline Cellars Pinot is over priced. I picked it up locally below the price today. Also I hope no one is shipping in the cold weather.

Wines Til Sold Out website - anyone use it?

I figured some deals and some not. I just bought 04 Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs for $15 and they wanted $25 for the 06. I think some deals like the Lascombes will be there and the rest ok.

MSP - Bin Wine Bar - Lowerton St. Paul

I hate to be negative but the fact that the food and wine show is still going is a testiment to the lack of wine knowledge in the Twin Cities. The wines being poured are similar to Bin's wine list.
