Arabian Nights + Pakistani Rec (SF)
finally went this past friday. having grown up on middle eastern home cooking, i can definitely say this is the real deal and one of the best middle eastern restaurants i've been to in the bay area, if not the best. my only issue was that the presentation and decor aren't reflective of the homestyle cooking there, but it was still very reasonably priced with a lot of atypical items like kibbeh and kufta nayeh.
be warned that they go very heavy on the garlic, oil, and butter (just like home cooking). some interesting lebanese wines too, and they're also now one of the few places in SF where one can smoke hookah, as they have an outdoor area.
Lers Ros worth a trip for a neyorker who lives next to SriPraPhai?
how do srippraphai and jitlada compare to lotus of siam? (if anyone can make that comparison)
SF in July with 3 picky eaters - any thoughts?
sotto mare - really incredible italian seafood, and great pasta dishes too (the pesto is quite underrated)
SF Culinary Delights from a Canadian
burritos are the only thing one should ever get at taqueria cancun.
Best Takeout Burmese Tea Leaf Salad in the Richmond?
while i generally agree with your frustration; i've always found the tomatoes at mandalay to be ripe and juicy
Best Takeout Burmese Tea Leaf Salad in the Richmond?
nope; it includes fermented tea leaves and nothing else
Best Takeout Burmese Tea Leaf Salad in the Richmond?
also don't call on sundays. keep in mind you also need peanuts and dried shrimp
Central Kitchen, is it worth it? [San Francisco]
parking is super easy in that area; not sure where you were looking....
Inconsistencies in Amber Lunch buffet?
Has anyone else noticed a quality difference on different days? Just got back from it and while the butter chicken was of course up to par, a lot of the other items weren't as good as they usually are (lamb wasn't tender, tandoori chicken was bland); one of the reasons i like the buffet at Amber is because it's not as heavy as most Indian restaurants, but that certainly wasn't the case today. On the other hand, I went a couple of weeks ago on a Friday and it was stellar as always. Perhaps they just had an off day today....
When (and where) will watermelons start appearing around the Bay Area?
yea pretty much the day after i posted this i started seeing them everywhere i go
When (and where) will watermelons start appearing around the Bay Area?
this nice weather is making me crave them....
B & M Mei Sing [San Francisco]
someone brought back some chow fun and chow mein to the office the other day; not mind-blowing, but delicious nonetheless.
Jardiniere - worth it? [San Francisco]
saison's deal is promoting a new tasting menuy that they just introduced at a very high price level, so it makes sense that they'd have a deal to encourage people to try it at a lower cost than normal.
jardiniere's tasting menu has been around as long the restaurant itself, with the only increases in price being relative to inflation and the rest of the menu.
the short answer is no, jardiniere is not worth it. the food isn't terrible, but it should be a lot better for the price they're charging.
Jardiniere - worth it? [San Francisco]
the fact that they're resorting to these deal sites worries me....
Point Reyes Lighthouse and The Marshall Shore
but the marshall store is owned by tomales bay oyster company, so if you really like the raw ones there better, wouldn't it just make more sense to stop off at tomales bay instead?
Arabian Nights + Pakistani Rec (SF)
totally missed this; was about to ask if anyone's been; their menu looks amazing and very highly rated on yelp; i just bought the bloomspot deal.
anyway, the closing of lahore karahi is very sad, but pakwan is very solid pakistani food.
looking for the perfect representation of California cuisine for one night in SF
outerlands
Recent Lahore Karahi reports?
fair enough, but one of the things that made lahore karahi so special was his proprietary spice mix, which i'm guessing he didn't use in the butter chicken
How awful/decent is John's Grill in Union Square?
depends - john's grill is a little overpriced, but not terrible (the crab louie is quite good). however, the ambience is like few other places in sf, which should make it worth it over a hotel
Recent Lahore Karahi reports?
why would you order butter chicken at a pakistani restaurant?
Recent Lahore Karahi reports?
are there significant quality differences between the shalimar locations? i have friends that rave about shalimar, but i was disappointed by the jones street one
Difficultly of French Laundry Reservations?
while nearly all of the former chefs de cuisine of the french laundry have opened up their own places, most are doing stuff very different from the french laundry; like benu, lincoln, alinea, etc. they have french influences, but that's it.
also, the only restaurant in the area that is doign anything like the french laundry is cyrus; you make it soudns liek there's a plethora of them.
