Casual dinner in Lake Louise
The hostel used to have yummy food. Its very casual so no worries about hiking clothes. I haven't been there for a while, otherwise the Post Hotel pub is good too.
Ice Cream -- it is a problem (Calgary)
You forgot to mention Marble Slab on 17th Ave on the same block as Una. YUMMY! Great for kids given the sizes and choices for toppings.
Lots of other locations in Calgary but this is the closest to downtown.
Recommend - family spots by City Hall
We are coming from Calgary for the boston marathon long weekend. I have loved all the suggestions in years past but this year we will have our 1.5 year old so I'm not sure where to eat. We're staying right by City Hall in Boston so will try to hit up a few favourites like Neptune and Regina's.
Any suggestions for great places near by that are might have a high chair or be more family friendly in general.
YYC - Hamburger bun help needed
I highly recommend the pretzel buns at sourdough bakery. They do have hamburger buns but I'd say they are just typical whole wheat buns... Not as fun and yummy as the pretzel.
Looking for Caterer in Calgary
I had Vendome cafe cater a bridal shower and it was fanastic! We had way too much food - around $25 person for huge brunch selection. I'm having them do a baby shower that is afternoon tea. Contact the manager Dean - it's awesome!
I did pick up the food, which helped keep costs down.

Noble in Calgary?
Just checked the facebook page and they're officially open for lunch today.
Definitely going to check it out this weekend.
YYC - Where to find good BBQ ribs?
Thanks for the recommendation. I loved Holy Smoke pulled pork sandwiches. The ribs were good but I'm more of a sauce rib person than rub. Great place and find! I'll definitely be back.
Where to Find...?
Sourdough Bakery on 17th Ave SW has fantastic chocolate croissants.
You might want to try Cookbook company for tea cookies.
YYC - Where to find good BBQ ribs?
Thanks everyone! I'm off to holy smoke today to try it out.
YYC - Where to find good BBQ ribs?
I need some BBQ suggestions. I'm a 8 months pregnant and have been craving pulled pork and bbq ribs for too long. I had some amazing short ribs at Brava last week but was hoping for some good suggestions in Calgary.
Seeking Root Beer Popsicles in Calgary
It may not be a popsicle but you should try the Presiden't Choice rootbeer icecream. So good and only $3 for a container.
Wedding Cakes in Calgary
I would highly not suggest Nectar. The cakes we've gotten there look nice but were always dry.
I would hihgly recomment Brulee - great cakes and really nice people.
Two Chowhounds from Canada - Boston April 16-22
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! We had some amazing dinners at Neptune and Regina (where we went a few times - yum) and had one of the best meals ever at No.9 Park where we did the 7+course tasting menu and they even made me 'mocktail' pairings. It definitely highlighted the courses very well and made the meal special.
Have to say, we had one of the worst meals ever at legal seafood. Over cooked lobster and reservations mean nothing as we still had to wait an hour. Don't see how this can be one of the best seafood places - made 'fast seafood' - when compared to places like neptune.
Tiramisu in Calgary?
Olives has really good tiramisu. Not sure if they have out in the "to go" area but I'm sure you can call to ask.
Two Chowhounds from Canada - Boston April 16-22
Hello Boston Chowhounds,
My hubby and I are coming down from Calgary (known best for it's beef) and will be staying near City Hall for a week. The hubby will be running the marathon while as I cheer as I'm 5 months pregnant. We'll be all around town going to see the Red Sox and other fun things throughout the week. I wanted to get some advice on a few different great places to eat - including memoriable no-price limit dinners, great bakeries, seafood restaurants, wine bars (for him), and burger/pub joints.
After crumbing this board I've come across the few suggestions but we haven't booked anything yet. Toro for burger or brunch food, Regina or Scampo for pizza, neptune oyster for seafood, and No.9 Park for the tasting menu.
Thanks for the help!

How is Farm brunch?
I went last Saturday - more for lunch than brunch. It was good but the service was slower than I've had before. We both had the frittata and I'd order it again but not the best I've had in the city (Avenue Dinner used to have the best) and the cheese on it was barely noticeable.
On a side note, Farm needs to get a new printer as the menus were barely legible and it’s too bad they don’t give the receipts on the teacup saucers with the cloth pins anymore as it was so cute.
keg. calgary .help
I have to second the downtown location as being fantastic for good service, good, and a nice restaurant. I think it also helps that it's probably one of the newest also.
I can't say the same for any other location in Calgary - especially the 11th Street SW location.
Calgary Business dinner
I'd suggest Chef's Table at the Kensington Riverside Inn. Very good food and great atmosphere.
Private or semi-private room for 30 in Calgary..
Teatro has the opera room which I'd had a private dinner for 35 people and it was perfect - plus the food is fantastic.
Calgary - Vendome Cafe?
Teatro's new Vendome cafe in Kennsington has opened (where Heartland Cafe used to be).
Has anyone been?
Any review and details please share!
Thanksgiving Dinner in Calgary?
It isn't going out/ at a restaurnt but I've heard that Sunterra has really good turkey dinner "takeout"/finish at home stuff. A friends family did it last Christmas and loved it.
Office Christmas lunch recommendations in Calgary?
I've had good chrismtas lunches at Teatro and know that they can take large groups. I've also had mid-afternoon stations/buffet style food at Murrietta's in the lounge - great food but it more wine focused.
Houston for two days - What should I not miss?
My colleague and I had amazing food enlightening experiences at Hugo's and Reef.
Hugo's was truly the best Mexican I have ever eaten - including places I had been in Mexico. We ordered about 5 small dishes and shared. My favourite were the chicken tacos which I think I could eat every day. We both over ate in a good way…
Reef was excellent - food, atmosphere, wine.... The wine list was difficult to choose or even narrow it down to a few. I couldn't take my eyes off the wall of wine – very impressive. I had the crispy snapper with chard and it was delicious! The snapper was perfectly cooked and the chard was so flavourful. I’ve already begun trying to recreate the chard… but sadly unsuccessfully.
I’ll definitely be back to both restaurants and try out the rest from the list I’m in town next. Thank you for the excellent recommendations.
Houston for two days - What should I not miss?
I’ll be in Houston for the first time this Sunday – Tuesday for business and working/staying downtown (near Texas Ave/Main St). I’m looking for something good. I’m open for anything but would prefer to stay away from steak as I’m from the Texas of Canada (Alberta) where we ate a lot of excellent steak often. I’d also mention that I’m not looking for anything terribly expensive ($40 under for main) or formal but preferably with a good wine list. I really appreciate any advice! Thanks.
Sunday dinner in Calgary?
Teatro still has the sunday set dinner and free corkage. They also have (as I walked by today at lunch) some wicked discounts on wine (big bottles) and during the week from 3-5pm something like 50% off everything). Highly recommend the sunday dinner.
Brava also does a sunday set menu but I haven't tried it.
Calgary - Teatro Cafe!
It's just take away and they have two bistro tables with a bunch of chairs if you want to sit down. Its in a kiosk so you just walk up to the window and order.
I believe the sandwiches are just over $6. The iced tea and sandwich together was $10 with tax.
Calgary - Teatro Cafe!
Just got back from lunch and had to quickly post as I had lunch at the newly opened Teatro Café – Ca’ppunino (think I got that right) in the Olympic plaza kiosk. All I can say is YUMMY! I had the pulled lambwich, iced tea, and huge brownie. The sandwich initially I thought was too small but was perfect in size (as I was hungry) with a fresh white bun, coleslaw, bbq sauce, and huge amount of pulled fresh melt in your mouth lamb. The iced tea was the best I’ve ever had – unsweetened but not bitter with loads of flavour and just enough ice to keep it cold but not to make it watery. The brownie was huge like the size of my hand and solid but tender and light with walnuts. Teatro does it again! I’ll definitely be back to try all the other sandwiches, salads, sweets, and coffees!
Calgary - Favourite Bakery?
Looking to get my husband an excellent black forest cake for his birthday next week. Any suggestions of favourite bakerys in Calgary other than Manuel Latruwe?
