Early Bird Dim Sum

Just came back from Szechuan Legend today for the first time. Dim sum was pleasant. Service was decent. Didn't have to wait too long considering it was the long weekend. I like the antique furniture used in the restaurant. The food was okay. It didn't blow me away but it wasn't too oily either. It's good for the price though. It's 1.98 during the weekdays and 2.20 for the weekends plus the cost of tea.

Sukhothai - A Gem of a Chowfind!

A group of us ordered takeout a few days ago and had a feast (with the new owners). The food was still amazing but it has changed a bit. We ordered shrimp chips, spring rolls, garlic tofu, tom yum gung soup, tom kha kai, sukhothai pad thai (my old favourite) with shrimp, pad kee mao with beef, green curry with chicken and guaytiaw sukothai. I love their shrimp chips. I've had the shrimp chps, tom yum gung, pad thai and green curry before. I didn't get a chance to try the green curry this time round but my friends enjoyed it. I was happy that the shrimps chips were the same and yummy however the tom yum gung and pad thai were different. The soup was fragrant but the consistancy was different and not as rich and thick. The pad thai did not wow me this time. There was something different about this version. The texture was fine, but it just wasn't as tasty this time. I wouldn't order it again. As for the new items I tried this time, I won't be able to compare the dishes to the previous owner's version but this is what I thought of them. I found the pad kee mao kind of blah, oily and bland. I wouldn't order this again. I didn't like the garlic tofu. Perhaps it was because it was takeout, I didn't like the texture of the tofu. Winners: The tom kha kai was very fragrant and yummy. The spring rolls were nice and crispy and flavourful. The best was the guaytiaw sukothai. The soup was so amazing. I love soup noodles and the broth was so delicious and the beef was so tender. This is my new favourite and would definitely order this again.
So I guess I would go back to this place again, but not for my old favourites. I'm going to have to go to Khao San Road to get back my favourite pad thai again and try their other dishes.

Best Reuben Sandwich in Toronto?

I finally got a chance to go to the Corned Beef House. Went on a late Saturday afternoon and service was quite slow. I ordered a reuben on marble rye. They were out of potato salad (already around 5pm?) The reuben did not come on the marble rye that I asked for but I was starving by the time the sandwich came so I just ate it anyways. The bread was good and so was the sandwich. The meat was sooo moist. It was good, but not the best I've had. I don't think I can find in Toronto. I miss Schwartz's deli in Montreal....drool.

Best Reuben Sandwich in Toronto?

Can someone suggest a place to get a good reuben sandwich?

Best Sesame Ice-cream?

Gal's sushi on Highway 7 or Manpuku (I think Gal's is better but both are very good)

Chinese Black Sesame dumplings

Can anyone recommend a place that sells really good black sesame dumplings? I'm looking for a place to eat or buy it to make at home. It is usually served in a sweet ginger soup.

CNE is coming....what to eat?

I tried the deep fried butter at the ex. Waited in line for about 10-15 mins in evening 9ish. I thought it was overrated. The butter melted by the time who took a bite, so it was soaked into the crust of the ball. It tasted like a timbit but a bit crispier on the outside and it was a little salty in the inside. Could only eat one ball. Thank goodness I shared the rest.
Had the deep fried mac and cheese - smelled good. Coating was okay and tasty, the inside was bland and mushy. Needs to be more creamy or cheesy in the middle. We had to add ketchup and hot sauce. Could only eat one ball..quite oily. Thank goodness I shared the rest as well.
Had a Beaver tail with nutella and banana...that was sooo good!!!
Ribs from the Memphis Stand was pretty tastey too!!

CNE is coming....what to eat?

I had the classic mac and cheese. It was awful. The pasta was overcooked, so it was quite mushy. Chedder cheese was just melted on top. I did not like it. It tasted quite bland even though they tried to put some spices onto the pasta.

I like Daytona Wings with the honey garlic sauce. The sauce taste good on the yummy fries too.
Beaver Tails
Tiny Tom's donuts...so yummy

Inexpensive don't miss

Just had dinner at Utopia and was disappointed. It seemed like it took a while to get our food. We ordered a Utopia burger, regular poutine and a grilled salmon burrito. The poutine was good..a little salty. My grilled salmon burrito tasted bland. The rice that is came with was horrible. It tasted really dry and there were these hard pieces in the rice..either it was undercooked rice or dried out. The sesame slaw did not taste good either. I just thought the overall mix of the meal did not go together. I would not order that again. My friend did not enjoy the burger either, even though it came with tons of toppings, he felt like there was just too much cheese in it. We sat in the back room when it was full and it was so noisy. People had to yell inorder to talk to each other. The front of the restaurant, although full as well was so different. It wasn't loud at out...almost lounge like. I wish we sat there instead. Not sure if I will go back to eat here.

Looking for the holy grail - cheap healthy and very delicious restaurant for a casual weeknight dinner

Another suggestion is Square Boy - their chicken souvlaki is very good and cheap too. I usually get the Chicken Souvlaki on a bun special with fries for around $6. You gotta get the gravy....so good. I like it cuz it has a chacoal taste and doesn't taste dry. Bonus...there's parking!

Try the Fish Store on College by Grace. I love their fish sandwiches and it's cheap too.
I've had Jean's vegetarian as well. I'm not vegetarian but they have some of the best tasting Thai food.

Korean Town should be close to you too, lots of choices for under $10.

Best macarons in Toronto?

This is my favourite place to get macarons if you don't like them too sweet. I love the texture as well.

Decent afternoon tea in Toronto?

About a year ago, a friend brought me to Madelineès Cherry pie and Ice cream for a birthday. There were four of us booked for Afternoon tea. I recall the food was really good and decided to bring a friend for her birthday. When I called to book reservations I was appalled by the answer to my request. Apparently the rules had changed such that a min of 10 people were required for Afternoon tea which I was fine with but the lady still continued to talk....so she continued on the phone that If I still wanted afternoon tea I would have to book it for 10 people even if only the two of us wanted tea. I was shocked by this answer so I clarified this by asking if she meant that I would still pay for 10 people even though only the two of us showed up and the lady on the phone said correct. Who in their right mind would do that, nevertheless give an answer like that! So I asked her if that was what she meant and she mad when she answered back by saying that she wasnt going to cook for 10 people and have only two of the serviing paid for. It wasnèt worth it for her. Well, after that phone call, its not worth it for me ever to go there again! How rude!!! Too bad, cuz the food was pretty good. Very dissapointing.

Decent afternoon tea in Toronto?

Yes. I found the quality of the food to be very good. The tea room is more on the modern/art deco side.

The Best Pizza

We ordered the house pizza a few nights ago and the pizza was good. I thought the crust and the sauce was very nice, and I don't usually eat the crust. It's not the best pizza I ever had, but it was good pizza.

What kind of toppings are in the house special?

Best place to buy conpoy in Toronto

Hello,
Can anyone suggest a place to buy conpoy in Toronto. I have been told there are fakes out there. Not sure if anyone can tell the difference. I'm just looking to use it for soup, so I don't mind buying the shredded stuff. I like it in congee and fried rice too. Any other suggestions for dishes would be great.

Yang's

Thanks Charles. The Yang's Kitchen I was referring to is located at 4261 Highway 7. I heard my friend talking about a Yang's restaurant as well located at the Peach Tree Plaza that servers Northern Style Chinese food that was quite good.

Yang's

There seems to be a couple of restaurants north of Toronto around Richmond Hill and Markham area where the names of the restaurant start with Yang's. Are they are related? Like Yang's Fine Chinese Cuisine, Yang's Teppanyaki & Sushi, Yang's Kitchen...Yang Yang's Kitchen...

Just wondering.

Can any please recommend a good balsamic vinegar that I can buy in Toronto?

I bought both the Kirkland and PC Premium Aged Balsamic vinegars. I tried the Kirland brand today and used it to make a dressing for my salad and it was very good. It was very aromatic and strong in flavour yet smooth at the same time. It ended with a sweet note. Very nice. I liked it a lot. I can't wait to try the PC Brand vinegar.

Can any please recommend a good balsamic vinegar that I can buy in Toronto?

Oh yes. I've tried drizzling over strawberries as well. It was very good. I used a cherry balsamic vinegar from Oliver & co.. It's such a unique flavour, I'm not sure what else to use it for aside from dressing and dipping fruit.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I'm going to try the Kirkland brand based on the votes so far.

Can any please recommend a good balsamic vinegar that I can buy in Toronto?

Kirkland. Is that Costco's brand?

I'm interested in using it for salads or marinades. Can you also suggest other ways of using it? Thanks!

Toronto's Best Thai - Suhko Thai - Update

Went there about two weeks ago. The owners are the sweetest people. They care if you like their food or not. I ordered their Suko Thai Pad Thai. I think this is the best Pad Thai I've ever had and I'm comparing to some of the Pad Thai I"ve had in Thailand. It kind of reminded me of Me Goreng abit.

ISO: Popchips in Toronto

They must be really popular. I've seen them and bought them at the Shoppers at the Eaton Centre. I went back the next day and they were all gone about a month ago. I tried them in NYC and really liked them. I've had the regular salted version and salt and vineagar. The regular was fantastic and very addictive. The Salt and vinegar, not very good. Left a really bad after taste. I'll have to try the Salt and pepper one based on the rave reviews so far. Every time I pop into a Shoppers I always check for them but they are never to be found.

Hong Kong-style Western Food (HK-style "cafes")

Thanks!

Where can I buy a really good Strawberry Cake? I'm on a search.

My search is on. Thanks for the recommendations. I don't know what made me think of it, but the last time I had a really good Strawberry cake came out of a bakery that closed down a while ago in North York called Lemon Tree.
