Dordogne via Normandy to Brittany

I'm returning from the Dordogne to the Uk next week.

My normal route with my beloved dog is to head directly to Calais & the Eurotunnel. This time I'm happy to drive up the Normandy coast to Brittany, and probably cross from Cherbourg to Poole.

I'm trying to put a 3 night trip together, involving two places to stay which of course need to be dog friendly. Ideally we'd like to be by the coast & I've been perusing the invaluable Michelin Guide.

I find the Michelin Star rating more useful than Relais & Chateaux, as a guide, but any ChowHounders feedback would be appreciated.

Manoir de Lan Kellerec at Trebeurden for 2 nights is a possibility, with a stop at Anne De Bretagne
in La Pleine Sur Mer.

Gastro tour .. Dordogne & Aveyron

Thanks 'Yank' and indeed some of the great finds in this region have zero stars.

I ate at Hostellerie Plaisance in St Emilion on Saturday. 'Fou fou' may mean everything other than the food, so where shall I start ?

We started with aperitifs on a terrace with a most wonderful view. The dining room is on of the most stylish & sumptuous that I have seen for along time; the dishes were so beautifully presented & the flavours .. well, in my opinion, this was dining in supreme splendour. I am so looking forward to returning very soon.

Had lunch at Restaurant Marco which is just east of Cahors.
Superb .. lovely flavours and very well executed.

Michelin has a fairly good website.

Gastro tour .. Dordogne & Aveyron

We started our calorific journey last night with dinner at the Vieux Logis in Tremolat. It was excellent.

We'll be visiting Restaurant Marco outside Cahors, Gilles Moreau in Laguiole, Serge Vieira in Chaudes-Aigues & Michel Bras in Laguiole.

We'll finish our trip with a visit to Hostellerie de Plaisance in St Emilion.

customary to wear a blazer to michel bras @ dinner?

Most restaurants in France don't require a blazer. You must wear that in which you feel comfortable. Clean & smart casual is fine & if in doubt, check with the restaurant in advance.

Dinner in Avignon

We enjoyed a brasserie style meal at La Fourchette some two weeks ago. There were also good write ups about L'Essential but we could not get a table.

30th Anniversary dinner in the Dordogne

I think the Vieux Logis has a tapas evening equivalent at € 98.

I ate at the Vieux Logis last Monday lunch time. It was a french holiday, so there was no tapas. We went 'a la carte'. The meal was superb.

Looking for authentic dinner experience in Lyon

A Bouchon Lyonnais is the local tradition. We ate at Chez Hugon .. a very basic and traditional venue. Compact, simple and very friendly. We started with lentils & sausage, and then ate the traditional chicken with vinegar, veal tongue & the quenelle. Desert was a tasty taste tatin .. a heavy meal but typically Lyonnais.

St Emilion

After tasting wine at 3 vineyards, we are seeking a tasty low key restaurant for lunch.

Suggestions gratefully received.

30th Anniversary dinner in the Dordogne

I will second the Vieux Logis suggestion. Lunch is now € 45 per person for the Tapas lunch & well worth it, especially if it is sunny as the outdoor terrace is in a class of its own.

In Perigueux, for Haute Cuisine, you must go to L'Essential. If you're looking for more brasserie, L'Estaminet is very good and again they have a quiet terrace if it is dry. Au Grain du Sel is also a superb place but no outdoor space.

I have not eaten at Le Saint Martial but I have heard very good reports.

Our six nights in Sarlat, Dordogne- March 2012

Great information thank you.

I live about 20 minutes south of Perigueux. My 3 favourite restaurants are L'Essential, Au Grain du Sel & L'Estaminet. Le Gabarre is just a bit too far & sadly Sarlat is too much of a tourist town from May to September.

A delightful auberge is Lou Peyrol in St Marcel du Perigord but that is a good 50 minutes plus from Sarlat.

The Vieux Logis is always a winner !

Question about Lyon dinners

Very useful post .. thank you.
I'll be in Lyon for two nights at the end of May. Staying at Cour Des Loges means we'll have one dinner at Les Loges. Currently booked our second night at Daniel & Denise. Although Le Bouchon des Filles / Cafe des Fed / Abel all sound great. Feedback appreciated.

May 2012 .... Avignon / Lyon / St Bonnet Le Froid

We're starting a trip in mid May. First night was planned to be at Michel Trama's L'Aubergarde, south of Toulouse. That got off to a bad start, as their refund policy on cancelling a room in excess of 3 weeks notice was very unacceptable.

So we opted for our first night at Relais Royale at Mirepoix.

Then we are meeting friends at Montpelier & we'll be heading towards Avignon or Lyon for about 3 or 4 nights. We're not sure whether to stay in Avignon, head a little more into rural Provence or go to Lyon.

Our last night has been booked at Jacques Marcon at St Bonnet Le Froid.

All feedback is gratefully appreciated.

London - Yauatcha (Update)

Yauatcha has always been a great venue for tasty, well constructed & quality food. I think it is in the top league for dim sum. Sister restaurant Hakasan (original location and Bruton St) also serve great food consistently well.

Best Thai food London

I found Nahm very disappointing. I found the decor old fashioned & lighting very poor.
We ordered the tasting menu .. the first two dishes were fine. Then the remainder was served all together which meant it went cold very quickly.

Poor value and not very good.

London - Rasa Sayang in Chinatown

Well I am in a real quest for 'Malaysian' food.
Singapore Gardens is not far from my house, and I really enjoyed Sedap.
I am just bored of the usual chinese food served in London which I know is a big generalisation. I enjoy something with a bit more spice / kick.

I also find Thai food in London disappointing, as the sauce and the meat / fish / chicken never seem to integrate the flavour, probably as the sauce is just poured over.

Any suggestions gratefully received ... Thank you

Where does one start in Paris ?

Robert & Louise website does not make the menu clear which I always find a useful but not essential start to deciding.

Spending alot of time near Perigueux, I am not looking for foie gras, duck and gascony style cooking.

I ended up at Cafe de Marche on Rue de Bearn. An ok meal.
A previous visit was at Gaspard de la Nuit which was very good.

I will be spending another night in Paris w/c Jan 1, and have L'Ambroisie, L'Ami Louis & Beurre Noisette on my list. Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Glad you had enjoyable food ....

I was at the Vieux Logis for supper last Saturday night, & the whole team provided an excellent meal.

Paris - tasty, unpretentious & good value

Lunch at L'Epigramme was a pleasant experience.

Extremely tasty chilled pea soup, followed by beautifully cooked tender rack of lamb & a refreshing mango panacotta.

Restaurant is at 9, Rue de L'Eperon, 75006 near Place St Michel, and a few minutes walk from Notre Dame.

Openly been open since September 2010.
