St Emilion

After tasting wine at 3 vineyards, we are seeking a tasty low key restaurant for lunch.

Suggestions gratefully received.

30th Anniversary dinner in the Dordogne

I will second the Vieux Logis suggestion. Lunch is now € 45 per person for the Tapas lunch & well worth it, especially if it is sunny as the outdoor terrace is in a class of its own.

In Perigueux, for Haute Cuisine, you must go to L'Essential. If you're looking for more brasserie, L'Estaminet is very good and again they have a quiet terrace if it is dry. Au Grain du Sel is also a superb place but no outdoor space.

I have not eaten at Le Saint Martial but I have heard very good reports.

Our six nights in Sarlat, Dordogne- March 2012

Great information thank you.

I live about 20 minutes south of Perigueux. My 3 favourite restaurants are L'Essential, Au Grain du Sel & L'Estaminet. Le Gabarre is just a bit too far & sadly Sarlat is too much of a tourist town from May to September.

A delightful auberge is Lou Peyrol in St Marcel du Perigord but that is a good 50 minutes plus from Sarlat.

The Vieux Logis is always a winner !

Petrus - chef's table

I am thinking of booking the Chef's Table at Petrus.

Feedback from any CHs appreciated.

Question about Lyon dinners

Very useful post .. thank you.
I'll be in Lyon for two nights at the end of May. Staying at Cour Des Loges means we'll have one dinner at Les Loges. Currently booked our second night at Daniel & Denise. Although Le Bouchon des Filles / Cafe des Fed / Abel all sound great. Feedback appreciated.

May 2012 .... Avignon / Lyon / St Bonnet Le Froid

We're starting a trip in mid May. First night was planned to be at Michel Trama's L'Aubergarde, south of Toulouse. That got off to a bad start, as their refund policy on cancelling a room in excess of 3 weeks notice was very unacceptable.

So we opted for our first night at Relais Royale at Mirepoix.

Then we are meeting friends at Montpelier & we'll be heading towards Avignon or Lyon for about 3 or 4 nights. We're not sure whether to stay in Avignon, head a little more into rural Provence or go to Lyon.

Our last night has been booked at Jacques Marcon at St Bonnet Le Froid.

All feedback is gratefully appreciated.

London - Yauatcha (Update)

Yauatcha has always been a great venue for tasty, well constructed & quality food. I think it is in the top league for dim sum. Sister restaurant Hakasan (original location and Bruton St) also serve great food consistently well.

Best Thai food London

I found Nahm very disappointing. I found the decor old fashioned & lighting very poor.
We ordered the tasting menu .. the first two dishes were fine. Then the remainder was served all together which meant it went cold very quickly.

Poor value and not very good.

London - Rasa Sayang in Chinatown

Well I am in a real quest for 'Malaysian' food.
Singapore Gardens is not far from my house, and I really enjoyed Sedap.
I am just bored of the usual chinese food served in London which I know is a big generalisation. I enjoy something with a bit more spice / kick.

I also find Thai food in London disappointing, as the sauce and the meat / fish / chicken never seem to integrate the flavour, probably as the sauce is just poured over.

Any suggestions gratefully received ... Thank you

First weekend of January 2012

Staying around Les Places des Vosges .... suggestions gratefully received.

December 18 - 1 night in Paris .. near Place Des Vosges

Where does one start in Paris ?

Robert & Louise website does not make the menu clear which I always find a useful but not essential start to deciding.

Spending alot of time near Perigueux, I am not looking for foie gras, duck and gascony style cooking.

December 18 - 1 night in Paris .. near Place Des Vosges

I ended up at Cafe de Marche on Rue de Bearn. An ok meal.
A previous visit was at Gaspard de la Nuit which was very good.

I will be spending another night in Paris w/c Jan 1, and have L'Ambroisie, L'Ami Louis & Beurre Noisette on my list. Any other suggestions gratefully received.

December 18 - 1 night in Paris .. near Place Des Vosges

I've got one night in Paris. Alone .. but with the company of my adorable dog.

Any suggestions for a comfortable & tasty meal near the Place des Vosges.

Thank you

Glad you had enjoyable food ....

I was at the Vieux Logis for supper last Saturday night, & the whole team provided an excellent meal.

I am returning this Friday, July 8 for lunch ... 'tapas style'.

Paris - Chéri Bibi

Thanks for the useful CH post.

Paris - tasty, unpretentious & good value

Lunch at L'Epigramme was a pleasant experience.

Extremely tasty chilled pea soup, followed by beautifully cooked tender rack of lamb & a refreshing mango panacotta.

Restaurant is at 9, Rue de L'Eperon, 75006 near Place St Michel, and a few minutes walk from Notre Dame.

Openly been open since September 2010.

Ranking your Favorite Restaurants in Paris

@Luus

"what's really being asked for are opinions" ... Opinions include comment, thoughts, personal points of view, feelings & may Include expectations & personal observations.

A list is a summary of choices, in series with a 'favourite' which eventually leads to a 'less' or least favourite.

'Opinions & lists' are an oxymoron.

Ranking your Favorite Restaurants in Paris

I am a very infrequent user of this board but it certainly provides information where friends, magazines & personal experience need a little extra support / guidance.

Bearing in mind the size & popularity of Paris, it would certainly benefit from its own listing.

Choosing a restaurant is never easy as there is so much choice, sometimes, no choice is often the best option when the standard is very good.

18 months ago I ate at Beurre Noisette in Paris' 15th arr. Local neighbourhood restaurant, unpretentious, two sittings, great value and superb memorable meal.

'Worse than the wrong decision, is indecision' & 'a disadvantage of privilege is choice'

Paris - Lunch - June 14

Am spending a brief one day visiting Paris. Our plan is to complete our 'bateau on the Seine' @ Pont Neuf by 13.00 & we're looking for a local memorable brasserie ..

Advice on where to eat would be appreciated. So far we are considering :

Le Voltaire
L'Ami Louis (which is slightly further away)
Allard
L'Epigramme

Thank you in advance !

We had Tapas lunch at the Vieux Logis on Friday May 6.

Fabulous setting, attentive staff & superb array of food. The Roquefort Mousse & small toastie to go alongside was outstanding.

Too much choice

I've got 3 nights in Tribeca end of May.

Manhattan has so much choice that the only thing worse than the wrong decision, is indecision.

'Abe & Arthur' & City Hall are on my list as I never got there in 2009.
Pearl Oyster always a favourite.

I am particularly fond of Malaysian food at the moment.

All suggestions gratefully received.

One amazing aspect of the Vieux Logis is the outdoor terrace with magnificent views of the topiary manicured garden. In the heat of summer, the outdoor terrace is perfectly shaded as the tables are under a spectacular array of trees that grow specifically to give shade.

The other amazing aspect of the weekday lunches is the 'pure theatre' in which tapas style servings ensure a wide array of tastes without feeling too heavy.

I don't think Le Bugue has anywhere worth eating. Perhaps Monique's which is a wine bar, or La Renaissance at a push.

The most gorgeous setting for a cafe where food is served is near Le Bugue, in a small village called Limeuil. Terrace(s) over look where the Vezere & Dordogne rivers meet & in height of summer, the area will be full of people.

In the 'higher par't of Limeuil is a very small new restaurant called Garden Party. I've not eaten there but it only has a choice of 3 or 4 starters, mains and desserts. Also the well established Au Bon Acceuil which serves typical perigourdine food.

Slightly further than Limeuil is Paunat. Julien serves typical perigourdine food & is located next to the restored Abbey. Sitting outside is just stunningly beautiful & very quiet. Food mediocre, Julien himself very personable.

Will you be lunching for tapas or dinner at Vieux Logis on Thursday ?

Anyone been? Sichuan Restaurant on Charing Cross Road, Chinatown, London

I've also wondered about this restaurant but not heard anything.

I live 10 minutes drive north of Le Bugue.

I do not know, as you put it, of 'that picturesque bridge with the sharp 90° turn in the Center'

Searching for food experiences in and around Sarlat and Dordogne

Don't worry about your grammar ... it is actually the village of Limeuil ... some 5 minutes drive South West of Le Bugue.

Searching for food experiences in and around Sarlat and Dordogne

It may look like a '90 degree bridge', but I think it is 2 bridges connecting 3 pieces of land.

One bridge crosses the Vezere River , and the other the Dordogne River.

Searching for food experiences in and around Sarlat and Dordogne

I live in the area of Le Bugue, some 25 minutes to the west of Sarlat.

I've not eaten at Grand Bleu but heard good things.

Le Centennaire in Les Ezyies used to have 2 michelin stars but is now closed. One of the chefs has opened in the delightful town of Perigueux. L'Essential is the restaurant and has a michelin star. Great food.

Le Vieux Logis in Tremolat serves equally great food in a beautiful garden setting. Weekday lunch is a 'theatre' of small tapas style dishes.

Further afield towards Bergerac is a stunning family run restaurant called Auberge Lou Peyrol in St Marcel Du Perigord. Philippe is a great chef !!

Moulin Abbaye in Brantome was sold at the beginning of 2010. I think it has passed from 'owner occupier' to corporate ownership with the kitchen under contract. Last year was disappointing so we have not returned.

The Palm & Chef Allen Experience

Funny .. my friends who eat alot at The Palm love ice cream with their Palm chocolate cake.

They were spoken to, so badly ... and guess what, they're members of 837.

In my opinion, the front of house Manager should be sacked for such attitude.
