Sorry to ruin this (good) conversation with a mundane question (but I can't find the answer elsewhere) - what was the cost of dinner (tax/tip/etc.) per person... I'm going regardless, just curious.
Sorry, need Montreal restaurant help
Thanks for the time and input - this is extremely helpful!
Sorry, need Montreal restaurant help
Hey folks,
I've been to Montreal a few times and always have had good/great food experiences (my favorite restaurant Bronte unfortunately closed).
Basically I'm looking for something NEW and great. Any opinions are appreciated - don't worry about food type or price. I'll be there for 3 lunches and 2 dinners.
Any opinions on Club Chasse et PĂȘche (Le) or Locale (Le)?
Here is where I've been (looking for something new)
Fairmount Bagel, dumplings at Roi Du Wonton, Toque, Au Pied de Cochon, La Chronique, La Colombe, L'Express, Ferreira Cafe, Milos, Toque, XO
THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!
Weird, unique, amazing eats in CT...
Food isn't weird (except that it's good Mexican in CT which is kind weird and definitely unique) but Mi Rancho (2754 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport CT) is a little Latin grocery store, but has chairs in the back for eating. It's the best Mexican in the state and no one knows about it.
Writer's note: I'm from Texas and think that almost all Mexican food up here sucks.

Chips and Salsa in/near Fairfield?
Hacienda opened in Black Rock; food is solid (good for CT Mexican), BUT their salsa is really good.
And just for principle (in response to a post above), Taco Loco is the worst insult to Mexican food/drink/and culture since Speedy Gonzalez.

Low End Bests in Boston
I have no greater food ignorance than the Boston scene. I'm looking for unique, low-end restaurants with lots of character. Any place that screams "Boston" is the idea. Any thoughts whatsoever will be very helpful.... no specific neighborhood preference!
thank you.
Chips and Salsa in/near Fairfield?
OK, so I'm from Texas and I miss good chips and good salsa. I'm talking about a kind of place you can sit, drink, and just snack.
I've been here 4 years and haven't found anywhere (probably b/c I avoid Mexican restaurants like the plague up here, but am willing to cede that I may be missing something adequate).
I'm not looking for good Mexican food, just quality chips (imo, thin, greasy, semi-salty) and quality salsa... any leads???
thanks!
3 Lunches in D.C.
I have three lunches in D.C. We are doing 'fine dining' type places for dinner, so I'm looking for kinda the best of the 'low end.' Not to be obnoxious, but stuff in the 'touristy' areas would be best so that we don't lose too much of the day in transit.
Thanks for any help!
any fish markets in West Houston??
Yeah good point - I should have been more specific. However, Phonenicia is right by me (apparently) so I'll check it out. Thanks!
any fish markets in West Houston??
Can't find any true markets outside of grocery store selection. Whole Foods is adequate, but I'd like a bigger selection. know of any??
thanks.
When to get to Clinton Street Baking Co.?
If I'm going on a weekend, and it opens at 9 a.m., when should we show up by in order to not wait forever??
This is right by our hotel, so I appreciate any tips, but please spare me the inevitable 'don't go there go here instead' comments.
Any good lunches place in Blacksburg or Roanoke??
I'm driving from CT to TX, and will be in Virginia on I-81 around lunchtime. Anything good along I-81 or in Blacksburg or Roanoke?
ANY suggestions or types of food are appreciated!
Inexpensive but good restaurant near Rockefeller Center? Does this exist?
The answer is kinda.
One good hole-in-the-wall is close by is Gazala Place (http://gazalaplace.com/). It's very good Middle Eastern food, and BYOB so you can get drunk for cheap then go ice skating - perfect combo.
There's now a Szechuan Gourmet (out of Queens, there's like 4 now) on 56th. Again, not a 'nice' place but they have a few great dishes - Frank Bruni gave it 2 stars in the Times which is saying something for a place this cheap. (pork dumplings, dan dan noodles, tofu, pork belly with ginger, jellyfish all solid).
All in all, I'd probably eat somewhere like these places then go to a nicer bar after.
SHO, Little Owl or Aldea for birthday dinner?
I have nothing new to add to the discussion - I just want to second the choices of squab and quail at SHO; two of the best dishes of the year without question.
Montreal restaurants
Based on your preferences, my first choice would be Au Pied de Cochon. The place has received a large amount of attention for it's nose-to-tail cooking (even though St. John's in London really deserves the most credit on that note) - it's always crowded and loud/busy, but not in an unappealing way. Duck in a Can is one of my favorite dishes in Montreal, but certainly isn't cheap (if I recall it's around $35 US), but always worth it. The pied de cochon is cheap and also good (but not Duck in a Can good).
My favorite restaurant in Canada is Bronte, but it's usually pretty quiet and pricey. Ferreira Cafe is lively and has a nice bar, but the food is very good not great (for the price, it should be great). La Colombe is one of my favorites too - however, it's a good small, romantic place-type place so it will lack the 'energy' you may be looking for (it's BYOB however which is nice).
La Chronique is a great place and has a cheap/awesome lunch if you get in on a weekday (presumably Friday)

What to eat at Marea?
Going to Marea soon - does anyone have insight on which dishes shouldn't be missed? The only one I'm definitely sold on getting is the fusilli with octopus & bone marrow...
OR is this anything that I should avoid?
Thanks for any help.

Oysters in bulk???
Anyone know of a place in Fairfield or New Haven CT to buy oysters (unshucked of course) in bulk???
Looking for great food in Charleston...
Suzy, it must be a joke. No one on Chowhound can truly think Hymans is anything but an embarrassment.
Downtown Seattle for lunch?
Going to Seattle for a conference - I've made all my dinner reservations but am looking for some UNIQUE, moderately priced places for lunch. The more casual the better. Thanks for any suggestions!
