great dinner southern maine
Thank you for the Joshua's rec!
We had a great dinner - started with the wild mushrooms and a mussels in blue cheese cream special. Then the chicken and a swordfish special. The food was wonderful and the service even better. They cheerfully substituted the mushroom risotto from the halibut for the potatoes on the chicken and kept bringing bread for sopping up the blue cheese cream from the mussels. Key lime pie for dessert. Perfect meal
We also found our way to Duckfat in Portland for lunch, which was fun.
great dinner southern maine
Thanks! We did go to Primo on our last Maine jaunt. Wish we had time to go that far this trip, but time is tight. Will report back.
great dinner southern maine
My husband and I are heading to so Maine (from Boston) for a mini-vac. We know the portland rest's a bit,,, is there anything between Portsmouth and Portland that would be a great place for dinner? I know I've read reviews of hot new places but did not retain anything...
thanks

some work finally going on at the old Steve's on Holyoke St in Harvard Sq, which has been "under renovation" for a long time. Ditto the highly touted new coffee place in Porter Exchange.
Westerly RI dinner; South County breakfast
I will be bringing a group to the Ocean House in Westerly in early November. Although we have some meals planned at the resort, some may be looking for dinner or breakfast options in the area. I know we are heading towards off season but I can readily check if a place will still be open. Any recs from reasonably-priced dinner or good breakfast? thanks

Reasons to be Cheerful - ice cream shop in West Concord
The proprietor has been working for a long time to get this store opened. My friend across the street is thrilled that it is bringing more people to W Concord. I hope you give it a try and let us all know how it is!
Recs for breakfast near Arlington?
I like Common Ground on Mt Auburn, east of Watertown Sq.
Recs for breakfast near Arlington?
yes, very bad blood between the neighboring joints.
dinner south of town
I am meeting a friend for dinner next week - she's in Quincy, I'm in Cambridge. I'm seeing this as an oppty to try someplace new south of the city. We're both willing to drive. Looking for someplace moderately priced and on the quiet side. She's allergic to fish, so the seaside options are out. And she's a regular at most of the Quincy Chinese places. Suggestions?
williamstown or north adams dinner
Thank you both. We went to mezze and had a really nice meal. Apps and mains were both interesting, fresh and well-prepared.
But one weird thing - their reservation system is funky... like they have to appear more exclusive by limiting availability. Or they release very few tables to Open Table. Or they don't have enough staff on a Thursday to serve a full house. We arrived for our 8:15 table (no 8:00 available) the same time as a party of four. Both of us were asked to wait while they made sure our table was ready. When we were taken to our table, there were at least four empty two tops and four or five empty four tops. Maybe they were just recovering from pre-theater rush, but it was bizarre. If you need a table at a certain time, I would call and not rely on Open Table!

I find it is fine - I have kosher relatives and it's by far the best option for kosher and probably the best corned beef in and around Boston
williamstown or north adams dinner
Hi
I am a Boston board regular, traveling to Williamstown and N Adams this week. I have searched the boards and various travel sites for dinner rec's and I am puzzled...
Mezze - the best place in the area or overpriced and pretentious?
Gramercy Bistro - C'hounders like it a lot more than other sites...
Hobson's Choice, Gala, Water St Grill - good value or mediocre? they sound like typical college joints (I live in Cambridge...)
Coyote Flaco??
help, please! This does not have to be a special dinner (again, I live near many good restaurants) but we want a good meal...
thanks

what is going into the second floor Indian restaurant location in Cambridge Galleria in Harvard Sq?
Where's the Best Fried Chicken in Boston Area?
I like Coast Cafe, tho I am not wild about their side dishes
visiting boston for a weekend. What r good places to eat? I want Places as good as Flour bakery or Border Cafe'. Will go for any type of food. I just want it to be good.
Unwittingly, you hit on one of the places boston foodies love to hate - the Border Cafe - which hurt your credibility. for those of us who live here, it is a dreadful place full of college students and visitors who see the line and think it must be good. Really, we can be friendly and helpful. But it's a big city, with lots of good food. Give us a sense of price, location, atmosphere, and type of food you are looking for, and we'll come thru for you.
Hyannis - mainly breakfast and dinner
so far...
Yes, i had wonderful corned beef hash at Keltic kitchen. couldn't eat again until 3:30 pm. The potatoes in the hash were creamy/mashed, not fried, which I found I liked. And since it came with a side of home fries, the combo was good.
Island Merchant underwhelmed... my husband ordered the jerk chicken with pasta which was not at all hot. He had to ask for a side order of sauce (not sure what they brought) to spice it up. My fish tacos were OK, but pretty bland as well. Yes, a nice room and the music was pleasant. Maybe the kitchen just needs a box of salt, but it needs something
We went to the new Colluccio Bros place at the Cove in Yarmouth for meat loaf, which did not disappoint. The new location is a little too spiffy, but the food was good.
4 mushroom pizza at Palio's was also good. Ardeo's on Main St in Hyannis was nice - the dining room seems recently redone and very spiffy. My moussaka was well constructed, with fresh spinach.
I hope to get to Daily Paper tomorrow for breakfast. maybe a nice dinner tomorrow night with my brother, who has his Dennis favorites.
thanks all
Suggestions for best prix-fixe mid-week dinner?
Rendezvous has a Sunday prix fix for $38

At various times, they have also done it other nights, but last time I was there, it wasn't advertised... you sort of had to know because you got an email...
Falafel Corner?
I like Jerusalem Pita in Brookline Village (recently reviewed in the Globe). Slow, but I thought the food was really good. Also closed for Shabbat, I expect. And because it's strictly kosher, no outside food is allow.
The place up Mass Ave in Cambridge, sort of across from Cambridge Common isn't bad, but it isn't great either. Jerusalem is better. (In both cases, I got take out, which isn't really fair to falafel, which should be eaten hot and fresh.)
college visit
We finally paid attention to all the raves for La Morra in Brookline Village. Wonderful dinner.
Falafel Corner?
Yes, that's the address - it's in the little store front where Greek Corner used to be, couple of doors down from Charlie's. But it did not seem open yet on Sunday. (free chairs on the sidewalk). Do you know anything about it?
Tory Row Cambridge

Hyannis - mainly breakfast and dinner
Hello from the Boston board. I am off to Hyannis for a week and looking for places for breakfast (particularly close to Hyannis) and dinner (willing to drive 30-40 minutes). Not necessarily the best meal you've ever had, but good, reliable, fun food. For example, we love the Flying Ace Cafe at the Chatham airport for breakfast.
On my list from other posts:
In Hyannis - Eclectic Cafe, Alberto's, Preta, Naked Oyster, Misaki, Palio's. Mixed reviews on Island Merchant
Further afield: Joe's Dinner (S Yarmouth), Beacon Room (Orleans), Red Pheasant (Dennis), Red Cottage (Dennis), Great Island Bakery (S Yarmouth), Ocean House (Dennisport), Sesuit Cafe (Dennis), 28 Atlantic (Chatham - at Wesquasett Inn?), LaCucina (Falmouth).
Comments on these welcome. other ideas even more welcome.
Thanks
peruvian pepper paste
Thank you all for your help. We tried a couple of places in Somerville with no luck and my friend was feeling guilty about the time it took. So we stopped shopping, went for a walk, and then hit Christina's for ice cream. But first went into the spice shop for chili powder and there were two of the three pastes she was looking for, made by Goya. Price was a bit higher but under $3 so we were all happy.
peruvian pepper paste
amazing - which one do you shop at? I don't think the one on the watertown/waltham line near russo's is so cosmopolitan!
upper east brunch
thank you all. for whatever reason, we ended up at Fig and Olive, which was a long walk back to the met, but OK on a lovely day. we had a good meal and they were very understanding when the party took a while to assemble. But I have a great list for next time.
