Cooking classes in/near Scottsdale?
The Sanctuary on Camelback has a Lunch & Learn series, but it's in July/August. Call them & see if you can schedule something special for your group.

I know the Four Seasons used to do something like a class or "shadow the chef" although it is not mentioned on their website. Give the concierge a call to inquire.

Good luck. If you find something good, please let us know.
Lunch options downtown near courthouse (jury duty)
Last time I had jury duty I went to the newly redone Tom's Tavern. It was close by & good.

One correction re: Deseo mojito bar; it's located at the Westin Kierland Resort.
California Foodie Visiting Scottsdale for Spring Training 2012
Another recommendation for Christopher's from me. Haven't been back for some time, but dinner this past Saturday was superb. Mushroom soup with foie gras, the duck entree, lamb chops & risotto side were all perfectly done. Service was just right as well. Way to go Christopher & staff!
Phoenix kolaches?
If that's the kolache you're looking for, you may want to call Europa Pastry Cafe before going. I'm only familiar with fruit or cheese-filled versions.
Phoenix kolaches?
+1 for the Europa Pastry Cafe at 16th St N of Maryland. Still going strong & delicious.

Chandler/Phoenix Dinner and a lunch?
If you can't get into FnB, then go to Citizen Public House nearby. It's excellent food with great cocktails.

Chef Peter DeRuvo Leaves Cuoco Pazzo
Wow, what a bummer. I literally just arrived home from dining there tonight. I did think it was odd not seeing him there, but I didn't ask.
The meal was outstanding. Meatballs over polenta & tomato sauce; the crispy ribs, black tagliolini with seafood & delicious almond souffle crepes. Service was so pleasant.

Trip report.
First of all, thanks to all for your wonderful & useful advice.
Acme Oyster House - char grilled oysters were great, service efficient & friendly.
Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone was fun - had to stop in four times till we scored seats on the carousel; drinks were well made and the staff was efficient & organized considering their patrons are constantly moving;-)
Coquette for lunch Friday (reservations recommended, otherwise we would've had to sit at the bar) - this was the best meal of the trip. Their housemade focaccia bread was heavenly. Lamb pate was delicious as was the shrimp & grits with merguez sausage.
Drinks at belloqc bar at the Hotel Modern - apparently a new bar that's doing some old style cocktails like Cobblers (variety of liquor choices combined with complementary fresh fruit juices & bitters). Drinks were tasty & the staff very enthusiastic. Attracts a younger crowd (20s-30s).
Herbsaint for dinner Friday (reservations recommended, was busy) - everything was well prepared. Staff was friendly.
La Boucherie Coffee House (339 Chartres) for late breakfast - delicious coffee & pastries in the FQ. Owner was so nice.
Mr B's Bistro for lunch - had the BBQ shrimp and it is very good. Obviously something you can only get in this part of the country. Staff was professional & friendly.
Napoleon House for dinner - was looking for a more downscale meal; the atmosphere was quite nice as it felt very old & European. Food was decent but nothing special; good drink & wine BTG prices. Staff was friendly.
Commander's Palace for Sunday brunch (reservations recommended but probably not required for our visit) - had the turtle soup, braised beef over grits & bread pudding souffle they were all very delicious. Service was cordial but very slow. Took forever to get garlic bread & then butter for the french bread. Entrees delivered at first were wrong so we waited another 15 mins for the correction. Server did bring us a free "shot" cocktail for our trouble. We did wear our jackets for this meal & while that was nice, I certainly would not have felt out of place without it.
Yo-Mama's for dinner - again we wanted downscale food after such a rich brunch, had the peanut butter burger and it was okay. I was hoping for somewhat of a satay flavor but it was definitely just peanut butter and bacon. Staff was very friendly.
Cafe du Monde - we made three visits here over the course of our weekend. Just love the beignets and cafe au lait, hot chocolate too!
Thank you NOLA, it was a great first visit for me and the friendly attitude exhibited by absolutely everyone made for a most pleasant trip.

Thanks for the feedback so far.
One follow-up question: I see "jacket required" mentioned for Galatoire's & Commander's; is this really the case (lunch/brunch & dinner)?
Remember, I come from Phoenix where shorts are the norm ;-)
Reservations required?
NOLA Hounds, a Phoenix Hound will be first-time visiting next week (Thu-Mon). Staying in CBD at Wyndham Whitney.
Are reservations generally required/recommended for places or no? The only place I've reserved thus far is Commander's Palace brunch on Sunday.
The two of us don't plan any $$$$ dining, just good, casual Southern/NOLA recs I've culled from all your advice on here (fellow PHX Hound BillH too!).
I don't have a problem doing reservations if that's preferred for NOLA dining. We are easy going otherwise; I enjoy a drink at the bar while waiting for a table for two.
Let me know your thoughts. It is very much appreciated.

Week of Thanksgiving in Chandler w/ Parents: Very picky eater!
I recently dined there & thought it was great; both food & service were excellent. It's a perfect place to be at sunset due to its placement on the North slope of Camelback Mtn. Grab some cocktails first on the patio & then dinner inside overlooking the twinkling lights of Paradise Valley.

Looking for great foodie dinners in Phoenix
You may want to give Litchfield's at the Wigwam a try. It's been created with consultation from Chris Bianco of Pizzeria Bianco fame. I have yet to see any reviews though.

looking for a great burger in PHX
I had the same burger & temperature this past Sunday and it was delicious.
Need a porron
For those of us that had to look it up - WHAT'S A PORRON???
Source Wikipedia -->
A porró, porrón, or porron (Catalan: porró in the singular, porrons in the plural) is a traditional glass wine pitcher, typical of Catalonia but well-known in other parts of Spain. It resembles a cross between a wine bottle and a watering can. The top of the bottle is narrow and can be sealed off with a cork. Stemming upwards from the bottom of the pitcher is a spout that gradually tapers off to a small opening. It is shaped such that the wine stored inside it will have minimal contact with the air, while being ready to be used at all times. The idea originated as a replacement to bota bags. Porrons are most commonly filled with regular wines, either white or red, but are also used to drink Cava, and a smaller version filled with a sweet, dessert wine (typically Grenache) is also common in Catalan restaurants. The lack of contact with the lips allows a group of people to share the same vessel without offending their sense of hygiene.

AZ88 hit the spot for an after-the-concert martini and burger
Agreed. I have been coming here for over 21 years now & they are consistently good. Love the Au Poivre burger too as I almost always get that one or the Au Poivre Two with bacon & blue cheese.
Their selection of burgers, chicken sandwiches & salads are pretty interesting too. Truck Garden Chicken sandwich is great: has cucumbers, radishes, mayo, peppercorns, chix marinated in lemon juice.
Always recommended.
