Best King Cakei in Austin?
Whole Foods has some that literally looked like they iced them with their feet. I could not bring myself to buy one. I just moved here and had no idea where to find one so I made my own the other day. If you like to bake and would like the recipe I'm happy to share.

TCA / Le Cordon Bleu vs Austin Community College
I don't have an answer for you but I am in the same dilemma. I am trying to decide between the Culinary Academy of Austin and TCA. CAA is less than half tuition of TCA and the program looks great. I am studying pastry and really don't know. Good luck!

Searching for CRISPY Rice Sushi (a la Koi & Katsuya in Los Angeles)
I am getting ready to move from L.A. to Austin and Katsuya is my favorite. I dread missing Katsuya. Also the tuna with the crispy onions, yummy!!! Please repost if you do find anything like that in Austin, as I will eagerly go there. Good luck!!!

Hi, I'm relocating to Austin in the next couple of months, from Los Angeles. I'm looking for your favorite places, hounders! I'm a professional baker and I love all types of food Everything from Japanese fusion to barbebue, I'm in. Living in L.A. for most of my life I am used to having a vast variety of ethnic food at my disposal. I'm really looking forward to exploring Austin and I'd love to check out your top picks. Thanks

Louisiana Gold?
There is a stall at the Farmer's Market on 3rd and Fairfax called Light my Fire. They have an amazing selection of hot sauces and condiments. Give them a call, they might have it.

Nirvana in the ice cream aisle
Ruby Jewel ice cream sandwiches at Whole Foods. Yum, yum, yum!!!! Today I tried the cinnamon chocolate cookie with espresso ice cream, unbelievable. The cookie has the perfect amount of salt to balance with the sweet ice cream. I got home at 10 am with the intention of saving it for later took a bite to taste, went back to the freezer 10 minutes later, cut it in half, ate that and went back again 10 minutes later and finished it. It was gone by 10:30 am. Ice cream for breakfast!!!!!

bisquits/gravy
I haven't been to Pine Street but I can highly recommend the biscuits and gravy at Snug Harbor in Santa Monica. I crave them! They're southern style milk/black pepper gravy with lots of sausage. The gravy is so delectable. I've tasted a lot of terrible biscuit gravy and this is some of the best I've ever tasted.

Craving a biscuit!
I've heard the Williams Sonoma par bake biscuits are amazing. I have never tried them myself however I trust the bread lover who told me this. You can order them online.

Good eats with kids near the L.A. County Zoo
Giamela's for subs on Los Feliz. Hugo's tacos ( which is a stand) followed with brownies from Sweets from the Soul , both on Glendale in Atwater. Eat Well on Brand in Glendale, decent diner fare nothing to write home about but very kid friendly

Polish Restaurant to try in Glendale:
Stuart, I completely agree with you. My boyfriend and I just got home from Polka, luckily we live right down the street. What a fantastic dinner and charming restaurant. That cabbage soup was to die for, the broth was buttery, salty and smoky. Delicious. We also got the platters and I swear that perogi almost put me over the edge. We had homemade chocolate pudding for dessert which was heavenly, though I was so full I really couldn't finish it. A ridiculous bargain considering how much food you get. It was unending. And I have a fridge full of leftovers that I can't wait to eat tomorrow. I truly can't recommend this place enough!!!

Best Squid Ink Pasta?
Fritto Misto in Santa Monica has it. I can't vouch for the squid ink pasta as I've never had it but everything else I've had there is stupendous.

lavender goat cheese yum yum!
I bake with lavender all the time. I infuse it and then strain it out. This goat cheese tasted to me like there was some ground and mixed in and there were some whole pieces as well. When I bit into a piece of lavender it was at full strength it definitely had not been cooked or diffused.
