Upperline-Yes? No? Maybe?

I hope it is still good. When we were in New Orleans 8 years ago it was phenomenal. I still think about that duck.

Charlotte: Ostrich, venison?

Hello,

I've been in the Queen city for two years & have yet to find a restaurant that serves either. Do you know of any? My friend suggested I go to butcher & just make it myself, which I guess is a possibility too...anyone know of any local butchers that would carry this stuff? I love ostrich & haven't had it in so long! Help!

Charlotte Resto Wk - did u partake?

A few of my girlfriends & I went to Upstream as well & pretty much I agree whole heartidly with the above comments. I felt like the portions were very small too, didn't know if that was the way Upstream always is or if it was just for the price fixe. I have heard that brunch is unbelievable there, may have to try that soon.

Portuguese in Charlotte?

I'm from NJ originally & there are a plethora of portuguese restaurants in the area. I haven't had any luck finding any portuguese in Charlotte thus far. Can anyone suggest one?

Concord, NC - New Restaurants

Hello!

We tried Max's Ally a few weeks back. We sat at the bar because there was a wait (the kitchen was a little behind). My husband & I both had sandwiches which were quite tasty. I feel like I had a goat cheese appetizer too, which I enjoyed. Sorry to be so vague, but like I said it was a few weeks back but I would definitely go back again.

I'm interested in trying Pandini's I'll let you know how that goes after I try it.

Charlotte Area Suggestions

Oh it is? I guess that makes sense then. Aren't there suggestions for it on this thread? I had friends that went & I called a few weeks after they went. They should really disable their website it they are closed. Thanks for the info!

Charlotte Area Suggestions

We've been in Charlotte for almost a year & I've done a lot of research from this board. The restaurants that we've been to & recommend are: Penguin, Lulu, Sullivan's, Cabo Fish Taco, Pewter Rose (for brunch) , Global, Lupie's Cafe & Nikko. Patou was on my list but was pulled after I called several times to make reservations & always received an answering machine. I left my information but never received a call back. That gets a big boo from me.

Dining alone in SF

Thanks! I guess I was just using the wrong search terms.

Dining alone in SF

Hello SF chowhounds!

I've tried searching, but haven't found much for lone diners. I'm going to be in the SF area on business for a week & need some dining suggestions. I'm staying at the SFO Marriott but I'll be there over a weekend so I'm going to do some SF investigating (plan to check out sights I missed last time--mainly the Castro, North Beach, China Town, the Marina & Golden Gate Park)...so what am I asking? I am asking for suggestions for lunch & dinner around town where I won't feel uncomfortable dining alone & won't break the expense account (the $12-$20 range). I'm definitely going to make a trip to Ferry Marketplace.

I eat anything except Indian. I especially like asian, including sushi.

Oh and one night I will be staying in Vallejo so if you have any recs that would be awesome.

I look forward to seeing your suggestions!!

Thanks so much.

Vegetarian in charlotte?

Hello!

I'm involved in a Charlotte Good Eats! group and we're trying to find some tasty vegetarian to sample. We're going out for Indian in 2 weeks, so we'd like to go for something different. I haven't had too much luck finding anything. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

My Charlotte Recommendations

Hey guys,

I moved here a few months ago and have a running list of all the places I need to try. I haven't found anywhere yet that does game meat. I've seen a lot of duck, but I'm specifically looking for venison or ostrich. I know that it would most likely be on a fall menu, but still, any ideas where my best bets would be?

Good, Cheap Eats in SD?

We will have a car and we're staying in La Jolla. We're planning on being all over the place...you know, usual tourists, Point Loma, La Jolla Cove, Old Town, Balboa Park and Coronado. I actually have a few days to be a tourist before I have to start work. :)

LA-Good eats on a budget?

We are staying at the Renaissance Hotel and Resort in Agoura Hills, but like I said, we'll be getting up each morning and heading off to be tourists. It is my husband's first trip out west, so I'd like to hit:
Sunset Strip
Venice Beach
Griffin Observatory
Grauman's Chinese Theatre
Warner Bros. Studio Tour
Mulholland Dr.
Santa Monica
Plus, I'm investigating some beaches for a little picninc, probably either Zuma or Redondo.

Good, Cheap Eats in SD?

Actually, I'm going to be in San Diego & LA. I just mistakenly put LA in that last sentence there. So yeah, San Diego gems anyone?

LA-Good eats on a budget?

We're actually staying a little bit out of the city, but will be spending our days doing the usual tourist-y things. As many have said before, I'm willing to drive a bit for a good meal.

Good, Cheap Eats in SD?

Hello San Diego chowhounds,

This board has been a wealth of information for me in the past. I'm going to the west coast on business in 2 weeks and have convinced my budget-conscious husband to come along--as long as I promise not to spend too much money (we just bought a house)...Anyhoo, I'm looking for some recommendations for breakfast, lunch, dinner (and hey, if you've got a suggestion for a place to have a cocktail that'd be swell too!)--anything that is good eats, but won't break the bank (I would say lunch under $40 and dinner in the $50-$80 range). We're pretty open-food wise. Please help! I know there are hidden gems in LA, please help me find them!!

Thanks!

Charlotte-Possible Relocation Trip

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! I'll report back next week!

Charlotte-Possible Relocation Trip

Hello Chowhounders!

My fiancee are most likely relocating to Charlotte. We are going to head out this weekend to see the city and decide if it is somewhere we can live. I was hoping for some recommendations on places to eat, maybe have a cocktail. For the cocktail portion of the evening, we'll do anything from a nice glass of wine & a cheese plate to a beer at a dive bar. For the eats, since this is so spur of the moment, we will be most likley looking for cheap eats on this trip...but also let us know if there are some great restaurants in town that we can try for next time!

I appreciate all of your help!
Thanks.
Katie
