Downtown Atlanta News
As you may know, Loaf & Kettle vacated its space in the Healey Building at 57 Forsyth Street a while back. The whole operation has been incorporated into Sops on Ellis (coincidentally on Ellis St.) where you can get the L&K menu at lunch and a different menu for dinner. This has sadly left a vacant restaurant spot in the Healey Building.
I have heard from a reliable source, however, that Lenny, the owner/chef of Les Fleur de Lis Cafe (also in the Healey) has acquired the space and is going to turn it into a sushi restaurant. I'm a HUGE fan of Fleur, so I have high hopes for this new venture. I have no information on a timeline, or anything more specific than Lenny and Sushi, but I think this is pretty exciting news for downtown. Also, if you haven't been to Fleur de Lis yet, it is definitely worth a visit. It is a tiny little restaurant with an authentic Parisian cafe feel, this is not the hugeness of F.A.B. Lunch and dinner offered most days, and a killer brunch is back up and running on Sundays. Fantastic food every time I've been, and while they do offer wine, you can also BYOB for a $5 corkage fee (I think that figure is right) There is some street parking around the building, although the spots are generally taken...but there are a bunch of lots within easy walking distance (think right by the Rialto for those familiar with that theater). Also, it is a pretty easy walk form either Five Points or Peachtree Center on MARTA.
If you live in downtown atlanta you have no excuse to not check this place out. And if you live outside downtown, it is definitely worth checking out.
What are the "must-not-miss" Atlanta restuarants?
There are actually three taqueria del sol locations, although the third one is often called Taqueria Sundown. It serves the same great tacos though, and is located on Cheshire Bridge Rd. I've found the line to be a bit shorter, on average, at this location.
Also, I might be wrong, but I think Brasserie Le Cozze is closed. The folks behind it re-opened as FAB downtown.
Another downtown french option that I'll put in a plug for is Les Fleur de Lis Cafe. It is in the lobby of the historic Healey Building, and has a more authentic Parisian bistro feel. It is a tiny place, so reservations are a good idea, but the food is awesome, and you can bring your own bottle of wine, which I really like. Also, they have a killer sunday brunch.
Durham/CH grad weekend
I got a reservation last year close to the last minute at Parizade...but it wasn't a great experience. One suggestion, if you're willing to drive, is to look into options in Raleigh. As long as it isn't also NC State's graduation that weekend, you might have luck out there. Plus, you'll have the advantage of avoiding a ridiculously overpriced fixed menu, which a lot of the durham/ch restaurants will be doing.
You might also check a place like Piedmont, which might not be well known enough in the duke undergrad world to be filled up. Although I'm not sure if they're even open on sunday nights.
Fleur de Lis Atlanta
Walked by at lunch today, and they were open. Didn't have a chance to stop in and see if they had been closed for a while, but I've had trouble in the past with getting anyone to answer the phone.
memphis airport bbq
There's a Corky's in Terminal A. It is a franchise of a place that started in Memphis, I think...so it is pretty authentic. http://www.corkysbbq.com/
There's also a place called Jim Neely's Interstate Bar-B-Que in terminal B. I don't know anything about it.
Please Help Boston Hound In ATL
The French place you're talking about is indeed called Les Fleur de Lis Cafe, and it is great. It is located in the historic Healey Building at 57 Forsyth St, although the entrance is on Walton, between forsyth and broad. The food there is fantastic, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're in a hurry. It is a tiny kitchen, and it is just the chef back there putting everything together himself. But it is well worth the trip. Also, while they do have a wine list, you can bring your own bottle and they'll charge you $5 for corkage. It is also open for lunch, as is Loaf and Kettle which is right next door to it inside the Healey. Both are great lunch places, although Loaf tends to be a bit better for those in a hurry. Fleur de Lis also does a sunday brunch, although they have shut it down I'm told until the weather gets nicer, so hopefully that will mean it is starting up again real soon. I can't recommend Fleur de Lis enough, really a great place, with a really fantastic atmosphere and even better food.
The guy who owns Loaf and Kettle has also (re)opened a place he first opened last year called Sops on Ellis, which I gather is offering a $35 three course dinner menu thursday-saturday. It will feature the bread pudding that you can find only at lunch time at Loaf & Kettle. It is on Ellis St, although I'm not sure of the exact location.
Slice, the pizza joint in castleberry hill has also opened a downtown location on Poplar. It features really good pizza.
Nice to see downtown getting some new culinary additions.
Downtown Atlanta
I'd actually second the recommendation made above for Les Fleur de Lis in the Healey Building, at 57 Forsyth St. Another really good lunch spot in the Healey Building is Loaf & Kettle, which as the name suggests, does sandwiches and soups. It is more expensive than a traditional sandwich counter, but they make a great cuban, and folks seem to really love their crab, spinach and corn chowder. Either of those spots would get my recommendation for lunch. Slice, a good pizza spot just opened up a downtown location (the original is in Castleberry Hill), and they offer some really good pizza by the slice. I don't know the address for the new spot, but it looked operational (yet closed because it was Sunday) when I walked by over the weekend.
3.5-hr ATL Layover - Best Value MARTA-Accessible Dinner?
I would second the recommendation of Fleur. I think getting to the North Avenue Station is pushing it, given your time constraints. But you can definitely get to and from Five Points, and to and from Fleur in your allotted time. I would mention to your server at Fleur that you're under a bit of a time crunch, because ocassionally they run a little slow.
Atlanta-Fulton Public Library lunch
There are two excellent options in the Healey Building, which is just down the street from the library at 57 Forsyth St. NW, a two-three block walk. One is a soup and sandwich place called Loaf & Kettle with an excellent Cuban sandwich, and corn, crab & spinach chowder that people say is great (I've never had the chowder myself). It is on the more expensive side as far as sandwich shops go, but really quite good. The other lunch spot is Les Fleur de Lis Cafe, a little french restaurant that is really, really yummy. Both places offer you seating in the beautiful atrium of the Healey Building. At L&K you order from the counter, Les Fleur has waitstaff.
Lewisburg, WV special occaaion
I posted this in the South board, as well, but figured since the town was written up in the Post, some folks on here might have some ideas as well.
I'll be spending a night in Lewisburg in a few weeks and want to take someone out to a really nice meal. I've narrowed the choices to the Main Dining Room at the Greenbrier or Julian's, in downtown Lewisburg. Does anyone have any insight on which one I should go with? My date is a vegetarian, so any information on how vggie-friendly either restaurant is would be appreciated.

How much should one expect to spend on a nice dinner for 2, including wine, at either The Greenbrier or the General Lewis Inn?
Durham Faves
Just for the record, I believe the owner of Queen of Sheba is the ex-wife of the owner of the now sadly defunct Blue Nile.
I would agree with the above posts that the food at QoS is good, but the service is lacking. The interior also lacks some of the charm of Blue Nile.
Ethiopian Restaurant Suggestions - Atlanta
I've been to The Cottage twice, and enjoyed my experience both times. The miser wot is fantastic and the owner and staff are incredibly friendly. Plus, there's something really surreal about eating Ethiopian in a former Burger King.
I haven't been to Queen Sheba yet, but two different Ethiopians in Atlanta have told me it is the best in town...so I'm planning to check it out sometime soon.
downtown atlanta near hilton, civic center, etc in october
The French restaurant in the Healey Building is called Les Fleur des Lis Cafe, and it is fantastic. No set dinner menu, but you can call ahead and ask what the chef is putting together that night. But there are actually two restaurants in the Healey Building (both on the first floor, not the basement). The other is a great lunch spot called Loaf & Kettle, which has wonderful soups and salads. You can access either restaurant by entering the Healey building on Walton Street, or the main entrance to the building on Forsyth, which is open until 6 or 7 in the evening. The owner of Loaf & Kettle also has a restaurant that is open for dinner called Sops on Ellis, which I haven't tried yet.
