What food find still haunts you - that you had once and haven't found since?
This will probably sound exceedingly strange, but there are only two things that I still think about all these years later.
One was a pizza my family had in Michigan when we were on vacation to Mackinak Island. We stayed on the mainland where it was cheaper and took the ferry over to the island each day. In the evenings, we'd be back on the mainland and go into town for dinner. One night we stopped and had pizza at this tiny little place - it was thin crust - and truly the best pizza I've ever had. Then we bought fudge. :D
The second one is (and please don't laugh at me) is from a little bait shack on the lake by the beach where the boat rentals are at Buckhorn Lake State Park (the lodge) in Kentucky. My brother and I were playing by the lake, and got tired and hungry, so my dad took us over by the boat house and we got sodas and a grilled cheese sandwich. I have never frorgotten that sandwich. Odd how a grilled cheese sandwich can be memorable - but I've never been able to make one like it.
Sunday Dinners/Square Meals
Sunday was almost always my dad grilling and my mom doing side dishes. Even if it was raining or 20 below zero - unless he was sick, he grilled.
Affordable BRUNCH in Bolingbrook/Naperville/Lombard/Downers Grove
That one does not do the buffet. I called to double check before I posted the Arlington Heights location. :)
Affordable BRUNCH in Bolingbrook/Naperville/Lombard/Downers Grove
There's always Papadeaux. Sunday brunch is $16.95. You'd have to go to Golf and Route 53 (basically) but it isn't a BAD drive.

There's always White Fence Farm too in Romeoville - http://pappaspizza.net/images/dyn/menus/menu_79.pdf. They open at noon on Sundays.
How much does a loaf of bread cost where you live?
Butternut (all my husband will eat) - $2.99 or so a loaf. On sale sometimes for half that.
Dominick's store brand - $.99 per loaf.
Huge long baguette from the bakery section (used for all kinds of other stuff like garlic bread, appetizers, etc.) - $2.29 a loaf.
Good rye bread - $3.59 a loaf.
Cocktail rye - $2.99 a loaf (I think - it's been a while).
Meant to add - I'm in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.
Nabisco Brown edge Wafers
If you are talking about the Nilla Wafers, they still have them in stores where I live (NW Suburbs of Chicago).
What's for lunch today?
Lunch was french toast and bacon. I know it sounds somewhat strange, but I was craving french toast last night and had leftovers. Pop it in the toaster at work and it heats up beautifully!
so what's the best canned chicken soup?
My favorite has always been Chunky Chicken Noodle when it comes to canned soup. I very rarely eat soup, though.
What is the name of this spinach dish I cooked?
That's exactly what my family did when one of the extended aunts came up with a pancacke we had never had before - now they're Duffy pancackes!

What fast food do you eat rarely, but that first bite think "Wow, this is so good!"
White Castle is pretty rare for us and there's a new one that just went up a year ago right down the street! I always think to myself "I need to get there for some sliders" then it kind of never ends up happening.
Arby 's Beef and Cheddar are heaven - no sauce, extra cheese.
McDonald's FOF (extra sauce) or Big Mac (not lettuce, extra everything else) go on the list too.
Mothers day NW suburbs?
What about Millrose in Barrington? What with the shops and everything, I always loved it there.
There's also Port Edward in Algonquin (http://portedward.com/).

Its 10pm, dinner is long gone, and you are hungry and alone...
Well, last night it was the last of the spam (fried). Last week one night, a couple of cheese hot dogs (split Ball Park's lengthwise, stuff in a slice of Kraft cheese in each, put in frying pan with butter, cook until bottoms are browned and cheese is all melty and the dog gets the ends of the hot dogs) and one night a few days earlier it was a couple of slices of french toast (takes a minute to make and a minute to fry up - it's good if you have a sweet tooth and no sweets.)
It's your birthday...you treat yourself to...?
Don't laugh at me.
A couple of ice cold bottles of Cold Duck (yes - Andre - so shoot me), some chilled shrimp with garlic butter to dunk them in, some dark chocolate to eat for dessert, and a day long marathon of Criminal Minds.
That to me would be my perfect birthday.
Cheap, good lunches in Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Vernon Hills, et al.?
Superdawg is open now too in Wheeling.
Fat tuesday indulgences
For us, it's PACKZI DAY!!!
I even have an extra one sitting at my desk to give my husband when he picks me up!
Your first taste of fast food!
I can't tell you the VERY first time, but I have distinct memories of being small (6 or so) and having a McDonald's Filet-O-Fish. That was the treat my brother and I got when my parents would go out at night. I also remember when they changed the tartar sauce - I was quite upset! The only other memory of fast food as a child was my father taking my brother and I to White Castle. Oddly enough, I loved their burgers, but wouldn't eat a burger from McDonald's - only the Filet-O-Fish.
Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares goes to Philadelphia
Thanks!! Very Interesting! As were the comments after the article. :)
PB & J dilemma - Please weigh in!
So, since my husband makes his PB&J on toast, that leaves my household open to not only PB in the J and J in the PB, but TOAST CRUMBS IN BOTH!
I will be calling a counselor tonight.
what is the thing(s) you always splurge on
Steak. There are NO compromises when it comes to steak.
Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares goes to Philadelphia
I would be very interested to know what someone from the area that's been there thinks about the place.
McDonald's charging for Big Mac sauce now?
My Big Mac's are without lettuce, extra cheese and sauce. I've ALWAYS been charged for the sauce - I've been eating them this way for years.
When you first started cooking away from home, what were some of your disasters?
Made a pot roast for my first husband. It was maybe 3 3 and a half pounds - browned it just like my mom said I should - but she told me it needed to cook for like 45 minutes per pound! Well I ididn't believe her. I cooked it maybe 45 minutes. Talk about tough.
Lunch near the Hyatt-Lisle on Monday?
Allgauer's at the Hilton.

Non Parishable Gift from Chicago
Thought of something else (after reading it in the Sun Times Food Section yesterday) - maybe some Margie's Candy?
What is your favorite Food TV show?
I get that too - but not Vincent Price - it's odder than that. :) My favorites are Hell's Kitchen, Barefoot Contessa, and Cook's Illustrated.
