Newbridge Cafe Chelsea

I live down the St. They are great at what they do ,tips (especially steak), salad is very basic but the dressing is addictive. When I am feeling like I want to completely torpedo my diet I get the chicken limone, fried chicken breast smothered in cheese, mushrooms AND a lemon butter sauce.
They are sort of timeless. I was really surprised when they changed their menu design a few years ago.

Mambo Italiano Visa Commercial

I may be wrong but I think that is fake pizza dough. Competitors in pizza dough tossing competitions use a rubber disc that looks just like the one in the commercial.

April openings and closings

I work half a block from them. They opened Wednesday which is one day before the manager had hoped for. Talked to him last week about renting his function room. SO and I are going today for an early dinner

New Mexican Restaurant in Malden?

I have nothing against El Salvadorean food but that is what I noticed about the difference between CA Mexican and MA mexican. MA Mexican food is El Salvadoran with a burrito or taco thrown in. So knowing that AND that the owners will be from the Dockside makes me not fear for my waistline.

February 2010 Openings and Closings

I work half a block from there and I am always tempted to go inside and ask. Now I will. I spent 15 years in CA and I yearn for good mexican.

New Mexican Restaurant in Malden?

I work on the same intersection that Beansprout used to be (Commercial and Medford St.)I got an email from my councilman that the site was approved for a license for a new Mexican restaurant. I LOVE Mexican food and since I am stepping distance from the place I'm thrilled if it is true. Does anyone know anything about this? Construction has started.
I spent 12 years in California and I miss real Mexican. I haven't been to Angela's which I hear from this board is the most authentic. It would be great if I had something right down the street. Or bad (waistline)

Do you ever just take the best part and keep quiet about it?

Like someone else mentioned, growing up my sister and I would spend so much time making sure we each got the exact same proportion of the best part of whatever it was.
Since I met my Husband (who was deprived of real cooking all his life and his Mom readily admits it as she scarfs down whatever I have made) I got such a high out of his enjoyment of my food that I always let him pick the best of everything and his son as well when he stayed with us. Well it's been 10 years and I am tired of watching them swarm the serving platters (how can two people take up so much room ?) only to be cofronted with the detritus of whatever I have spent a good amount of my day cooking.
It was really hard for me at first but I have just started to serve myself as I am calling them to dinner. They don't even notice and I have stopped seething silently through dinner.

Visiting Portland from Boston

I like everything. My Husband OTOH can't do spicy anything :(.. We are flying in on Tuesday and flying out on Friday. I really miss good mexican (used to live in California) It is non-existant out here. I did see a website devoted to the carts and I am very excited about those. Cart culture has also not made its way to New England. WOW I'm leaving tomorrow! This has happened so suddenly! I'll be sure to report back.

Visiting Portland from Boston

I recall seeing Ten01on this board when I first decided to go. We will not have a car. What is the public transportation like? We are also fine with using cabs.

I am so looking forward to this as I have been to most parts of this country except the Pacific Northwest. I just don't know what I can pack into two days of experiencing Portland. Part of me wants to just relax and NOT WORK but I mostly want to see new things. Any suggestions?

Visiting Portland from Boston

I am piggybacking on my husbands business trip. We are staying at the Heathman Hotel. I am looking for a few things. He will be busy all day so I am looking for some nice places to do lunch solo and a good place for dinner, nice but not extremely expensive.

I bought my own business 2 years ago and have'nt had anything remotely resembling a vacation in 3 years. I have never been to Portland and I am sooo excited to see a new city. It's just two days but I am going to make the most of it.

OH! I also enjoy the hard cider options that are available in my area, are they available in Portland? I spent a good part of my life in the U.K. and I like the dry, not too sweet kinds.

Thanks!

Raising a non-picky eater

this is the only issue with my niece. Other than the usual 6 year old stuff she is very well behaved. My sister has never given in on anything else. This wasjust too much and finally her Dr. recomended she just relax on this issue. I think that my niece only has issues with food. I worry about her.

Raising a non-picky eater

This makes me wonder (again) about my niece's attitude towards food.We are a family of foodies including my sister's husband but my sisters daughter is not just picky but almost afraid of food. My sister and I, in our various conversations about how we would raise our children, always said that what we put in front of our children was what they would eat. We found it crazy how modern day parents would cave in to their children's demands about food. WE were above all that. HA!! After years of constant arguing about food my sister now feeds her daughter the limited menu that she has demanded. Mac and cheese, bread and carrots. She will eat some fruit but is exacting about that too. The last time my brother in law tried to bring home red grapes instead of green there was no hearing the end of it. Did I mention she is 6. It didn't take long for my sister to "cave" and I don't blame her . That is one stubborn little girl (I think she takes after her Aunt)

Trader Joe's Sweet Potato Chips

Aren't sweet potatoes good for you? I know they must be fried but it is a better alternative than Lays PC. I guess eating a whole bag of anything is unhealthy.
Every tuesday I have a meeting right next door to a TJ"s. That's when I stock up. I'll buy these today and see if I can restrain myself.

Where to find tarramosalata (sp?)

I know of only one place in town that sells it. It's where my Mom gets it, I think it's called Greek Corner. I was wondering if there are more sources for this delicious greek dip/spread. I live in the Malden, Everett, Medford area.

Best italian sub in the area

I usually judge a sub shop by how they do their italian. My local favorite just changed owners and the difference is noticeable. I didn't know they could make bread sooo without substance, weight or heft. I have been a frequent browser and I haven't seen anything on italian subs. Anybody have reccomendations. I live in the Pratville side of Chelsea and work in Malden.

b-day in Central Square

I'm finally out of my 40'th year of life (it was a loooong one) and I'm being taken out for lunch. We have to stay in Central Square for a business meeting at 3:00. What restaurants have been particularly good there recently?
Thanks!
