Gourmet Christmas gift, anyone?

Cocoa Mix and Teas sound great!!
I am giving this year to all of my food-loving friends a trio of gourmet salts from here:
http://www.atthemeadow.com/
I am buying in bulk and packaging myself (tosave on cost and make it a little more hand-crafted)
another friend of mine is doing the same thing with dried mushrooms, which is really great also!!

Harrisburg- Cumberland County PA

I used to live in the area, there are definately options if you are willing to scout around. Bob's Bagel's in Lemoyne makes a pretty mean bagel. Rakestraw's ice cream has a shop in Mechanichburg, ans is pretty great hand-dip, old fashioned stuff.and the Flamingo grill in Harrisburg is supposed to be a good lunchtime sandwich spot.

Franny 2 Star

I know people love to moan over Franny's prices, but personally I'd rather pay a little more to an environmentally responsible restaurant. I understand their product is expensive but sometimes we forget the hidden costs and impacts of mass produced inexpensive food.

Great bakeries/patisseries in Brooklyn

Joyce Bakery on Vanderbilt Ave in Prospect Heights.
Pretty much everything I've had there has been outstanding- the russian tea cookies, macaroons, muffins, scones are all fresh and delicious. I highly reccommend going...

Matsu Sushi btwn 1st and York.

grand sichuan favorites for midtown west branch?

The fresh young chicken with schezuan peppercorns (I forget the name of the dish)
the peppercorns blew me away the first time I tried them, not your typical 'spicy' flavor.

What could be better than a week in NYC?

I don't think DiFara's is really worth your time. and I live in Brooklyn. I think the pizza is delicious, I have tried the artichoke pizza, and the artchokes were amazing, and it was fun to watch the cute old man make it, but I firmly believe better pizza can be found in Manhattan. My current favorite is Una Pizza Neapolitana. (you wont get any toppings really, though) The crust is amazing. perfect combo of char/chew. Franny's is up there too, though the crust tends to be a little more delicate and a lot of emphasis is on gourmet toppings.
My vote for a worthwhile trip to Brooklyn is Al Di La in Park Slope, best Italian food I've had. ever.
And one of my favorite hard to come-by meals is Otafuku for okonomiyaki and tatoyaki.

Any recent experiences at Miriam (Park Slope)?

I really love miriam, though haven't been in a few weeks. I don't know about the tomatoes, but the grilled haloumi cheese salad was delicious. We also tried the marjoram crusted bass, with an amazing cauliflower puree. The grilled escolar with jerusalem artichokes was delicious! I had the hummus once before, and was surprised to find it a little too deconstructed for me to like. The burekas were tasty, but a bit rich for my liking. I'm also a big fan of their flatbread (breadbasket)

There will be a new Korean spot in Prospect Heights, Noona, at Vanderbilt and Pacific slated to open Sept. 12th. Not sure if there'll be BBQ.
