Best value for sea food in Newport , RI

third the Mooring. Great apps and soups too. And they just redid their raw bar if you are into that

Newport, RI--Half Marathon

For carb-loading, would suggest the following: Pasta beach (casual), Puerinis (casual), Mama Luisa (a little more upscale)

For post-race beers: Pat's Pub on Memorial is in the basement and has beers and some food you could all share, or go to Broadway and hit Pour Judgement, 180 or even Fifth Element for beer and food. best beer selection in Newport is Norey's although, I'm not positive what their weekend hours are.

Best Pizza Newport...?

Really is no great pizza delivery in Newport...at different times i was ordering Nikolas, A1 or Carmellas but none are really that great, if you are like me and want NY style. I recently tried Crazy Dough and it was very good although pizza's start at $20!! ouch. Pasta Beach does good wood fire pizzas for take-out. I've also like the veggie pie from via via although i have mixed feelings about their staff.

Local spot for seafood near Newport/Jamestown, RI

I finally tried the lobster rolls at Easton's beach snack bar and they were really good! Plus you get a front row water view. Certainly on the very casual side, but they serve other things like crab cake sandwich and clam strips. Might be worth a try

Foods unique to Rhode Island

What is the story with Chow mein sandwiches? I gave it a try today at Evelyn's and have never been so upset about a dining out experience. That was inedible.

Visiting Newport in late August....

I wish i had checked this board this morning. We decided to finally go over and try Evelyn's for lunch. I had heard about the chow mein so went for it. That is the worst thing i have ever ordered. not only is the look completely unappealing....the flavor and texture made it inedible. I have no idea how a restaurant could put this on their menu. It really fouled the whole experience. I ended up throwing it away and going to Flo's for a fish sandwich. I always seek out great food, but I have no problem getting through a mediocre meal. This was probably the first thing i have ever refused to eat.

Anyone been to Becky's BBQ in RI?

Yeah, Becky's is great BBQ. And love their beans!

Needs recs for Newport - guys weekend

Yeah, i would second cooke house (1st floor) and Fluke. Would also suggest outside at Mooring, Zelda's, Fifth Element, or Salvation Cafe. All fun places with good food that aren't formal.

Newport picks

For seafood check out Flo's across from 1st beach (counter service downstairs, menu service upstairs) or Anthony's (counter service) in Middletown. Could share a pizza at Nikolas on Memorial where they have nice outdoor seating.

Donut heaven on Nantucket

I was staying in a surfside house the other week and made a stop there to pick up goodies for breakfast. Had the sugar and chocolate...both excellent. Also tried the blueberry crumb cake which just falls apart and melts in your mouth....so good!

Oran Mor Nantucket

We also enjoyed Oran Mor 2 years ago. It was a Friday night in August at 8pm and we hadn't made reservations, but climbed the stairs to Oran Mor to inquire anyway. They were so friendly and accommodating and found us a seat within 15 minutes. The service was excellent and the food perfect.

Restaurants in Jamestown, RI

We ate at the Bay Voyage restaurant last year and were pleasantly surprised! Great view there too.

Filling my picnic basket in Newport, RI

Couple ideas:
Go up Pelham to Bellevue and go a couple blocks left across from the Viking hotel. There is a wine shop and a gourmet food shop, both owned by the same couple. They will take very good care of you and the gourmet shop has excellent breads and cheese and has some prepared lunch sandwiches. Other choice is Bellevue Cafe is the most reasonable priced sandwich spot in Newport! They are open Mon-Sat and are at the top of Pelham on Bellevue. Basic sandwiches and salads to go, but so reasonable and very nice people. if you are hopping in the car to go picnic out at Eisenhower house of Brenton point, you could stop at Blue Rocks all the way at the end of Thames which is more upscale or the Ashmart right across the street for basic, but solid sandwiches to go. Now if you want, what is in my opinion the closest to a NY deli, go to (the new) Sig's out in Middletown on Aquidneck Ave. They are famous for their mac n cheese and they have huge sandwiches.

bagels cape cod to boston, providence

I like Bristol bagels in Bristol RI

Which Dinning option would you choose

tough call...good recs there. No to red parrot though, that's a casual average food place. I would say Tallulah or Bouchard. Depends on what you are in the mood for, farm to table or French. Go to Castle Hill first for a drink. And if you are looking for a post dinner drink/dessert i might suggest Norey's, casual but all homemade desserts

Anyone tried the Newport Cruise Co's Majestic Dinner Cruise in Newport?

well put.

Anyone tried the Newport Cruise Co's Majestic Dinner Cruise in Newport?

Aurora sounds nice. There is also America's Cup Charters if your group is into sailing and the america's cup boats. but no food there, would just be a sail with drinks. This might be helpful as well for ideas http://www.cruisenewport.com/Charters.htm

Anyone tried the Newport Cruise Co's Majestic Dinner Cruise in Newport?

I have never spoken to anyone who has done it as it would mostly be tourists, but it strikes me that you could feel just part of the crowd there. I guess it depends on who is in your group and what experience you are looking for. Also what month are you doing this? The idea of getting out on the water is a great one, but another option is to do a boat charter and then dinner somewhere.

In Newport RI this weekend need restaurant reco

Mamma luisa and Lucia's are owned by the same people but would highly recommend you choose mamma Luisa's - Great atmosphere and the food and service are fantastic. Talullah's is your choice for farm to table. Reservations needed at both in advance to get the times you want.

brunch place in newport

brunch ideas
Rhumbline - nice atmosphere in old point neighborhood and menu has a mix of breakfast and lunch items
Zelda's - cozy, upscale restaurant with a pretty broad brunch menu
Fifth Element - new restaurant, haven't been for brunch yet but i know they have and i believe they have music too
Asterick - French, no one goes here, but i don't know why. i went for brunch not too long ago and really enjoyed it

Agree with other poster that Corner Cafe is great, although I would say that is more breakfast than brunch

Newport - Sunday - B'day

You might want to think about Tallulah's for dinner. http://www.tallulahonthames.com/
They have been getting consistently excellent reviews and it would be a good fit for a high end meal.

Newport this spring

I think the restaurant that you are thinking of was called Sabina O'Doyles and is now called H2O. Never eaten there although they do have a good location. But as a local I have never heard my friends talk about going there, so that's all I can say about it. One option is @ The Deck which is down Thames a bit and on the water. The waterfront is mostly bar with the dining behind, good food though. For waterfront there is also the Pier which is great for a drink and app outside...can't speak to dinner though....it's changed hands a lot.
Black Pearl is good, the Landing is very casual, fried seafood.
One idea is to head over to goat island...there is a new spot there that is very good http://www.marinacafepub.com/index.html yummy food and outdoor seating. You can walk there or take a launch so that could be fun.

Newport decesion

Like the other poster said, Newport isn't the mecca for amazing food, but if you can sit back and enjoy the atmosphere and some good food, i think you will be happy. If you are looking to be in the heart of Newport and aren't concerned about prices, I think you have 2 good choices. Cooke House would be my first pick...good food and more views than Black Pearl. Although you can sit outside at the patio for black pearl with a limited menu which is fun. Mooring is one of the few restaurants with actual outdoor waterfront dining, so you could check that out too. Also along those lines for "Newport Atmosphere" is Zeldas

San Vivaldo Trattoria, Warwick review

I need to get there pronto. I have been dying to try it after all these great reviews! And am i correct in understanding that the best way to do it is to forgo the menu and let him choose the dishes?

Newport Dinner: Black Pearl, Mooring or the Pier?

Didn't even know it reopened and i work just around the corner. Guess I couldn't see it through my frozen windows as i drove by. Thanks for the review!

Newport RI AFTER Dinner

I think Cookhouse is a good bet, they have 2 comfortable bar areas. Also Fifth Element just reopened on Broadway and they have a pretty cool bar now so i think you should give that a try. Maybe 22 Bowens too...they have a fireplace at the upstairs bar. Another option is Fluke with a view of the water. OK, one more...is Tallulah's on Thames, bar upstairs is a great spot for apps and wine.

Soupy (italian sausage) in Westerly, RI

I want to start making sausage at home. Is there anywhere local to purchase sausage casings?

Newly ENGAGED!! Please recommend best, well-priced caterer in Rhode Island ....

I got married in Newport 2 years ago and met with (or talked to) about 4 caterers. I found them all to be very creative and about the same cost. In the end, it is just expensive...so make sure you get the quality and a caterer who really listens to you. Of the ones that you listed, I would recommend Blackstone. I met with them and they were incredible, so helpful and creative and willing to work with my budget. in the end we went a different direction, but I would say you couldn't go wrong with them.

Some Newport dining notes...

Glad to get your review of the Spiced Pear burger. Been wanting to try it out, but heard mixed reviews...but I guess that is the case with everything. Just need to try it myself.

NEWPORT, R.I. (Need a Nice Family Place w/Good Food!))

I think the big question is "who is open for Thanksgiving?" Hopefully you will get enough ideas here and call around and find some places that are open. I am going for recommendations based on atmosphere that will feel holiday-ish and still be comfortable for kids. Canfield House is a good idea although i have only eaten there once. Rhumbline also comes to mind...seems festive. Maybe Atlantic beach club? I have actually never eaten there, but the view would be nice and I could see them doing a big family thanksgiving. Maybe even the Mooring too, they might have a special holiday menu
