Kansas City for one night

I'd say Le Fou Frog for dinner.

Worcester recommendations please!

Best steak is at Willy's in Shrewsbury (not far).

Easter Brunch Providence

Try Cav ( They do brunch on other Sundays so probably are open on Easter. Great, quirky environment and very good food and service. It's a one-of-a-kind in Providence.

Kansas City - Seeking a couple of restaurant recs for sightseeing trip

Those two hotels are a LONG way apart. I'm not familiar with what's up near the airport these days. If you stay in Overland Park, I recommend J Gilbert's for steak; directly north of the hotel on Metcalf about 2 1/2 miles. Fish is more difficult. The best is Le Fou Frog, near the City Market just north of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. In OP, the Bristol on 119th Street is OK, but quality level doesn't match the high prices.

Rye in Kansas City, MO - anyone tried it?

Rye gets great reviews, but the night we were there it was disappointing. My salmon was clearly overcooked. And one of our friends had a side of potatoes that was cold. Lots of cool vibe, but not sure how much attention's being paid to details.

Best food in KC, imo, is downtown at Le Fou Frog. Best food near Rye is Ya Ya's (I know, it's not trendy and has been there for years, but it's still great). In between, in Prairie Village, is Cafe Provence.

The trendy place we have not yet been but I hear lots of good comments about is the Jacobson ... near the Rieger, I believe.

Need BBQ req around OP, KS on a Sunday

I like Jon Russell's for great ribs (

Pretty small space if you're planning to eat in, but I like the food a lot. And I actually like RJ's quite a bit. Another place near RJ's is Johnny's ... I'm not a big fan of their sandwiches, but the ribs are pretty good and the chicken was featured on DDD.

Three dinners in Portland

Just returned on Friday. Thanks for all the dining tips. Here's our report:

Dinners ...
1. Street & Co. Great sole Francaise and arctic char but even better was a fabulous lobster-based appetizer. Nice wine list. Liked the atmosphere and the service.
2. Zapoteca. Really interesting menu and good wine list. Enchiladas with local seafood not your typical Mexican stuff. Liked it a lot.
3. Ribolitta. A nice surprise on our last evening when we were very tired. Walked here and loved the homemade pasta.

And, the surprise of the trip ... fantastic seafood for lunch at Gilbert's Chowder House. Maybe the best mussels we have ever eaten. Lobster roll also terrific.

Three dinners in Portland

We're visiting Portland in a couple of weeks, for the first time. We're not really fans of tasting menus and lots of experimentation. We tend to like restaurants that have interesting menus and wine lists and are comfortable ... where local people, not tourists, go for a nice meal and evening. From what I've read so far, for example, we would like Street & Co. better than Hugo's or Five Fifty-Five.

Dinner suggestions between Providence and Worcester

Unfortunately, there's a huge void of nice restaurants between Providence and Worcester — especially if you're not interested in Italian. That seems to be the only cuisine Blackstone Valley folks like (well, there's fried seafood that's pretty good).

Alicante is your best bet. It's at least not pure Italian. The food and service are very good, and the location on the lake is great. Better ck to see if they'll take a reservation for your group, though, because it gets really busy.

Mexican food in Colorado Springs

We're going to be in Colorado Springs for a couple of days later this month. Where are the best places to get Mexican food?

B-R-G-R or Blanc? [Kansas City]

Went to Blanc and liked it a lot. We had the meat loaf burger and the au poivre burger, plus a side of sweet potato fries. All excellent.

I like the feel of B-R-G-R better but need to go back to reassess the food.

If you like ribs, I suggest JR's (Jon Russell's) on 135th St in Overland Park ...

Oklahoma Joe's also is very good. Another one I like is RJ's Bob-be-Cue Shack in Mission:

B-R-G-R or Blanc? [Kansas City]

OK, so I want to try one of the trendy burger places in Kansas City. Which is better ... B-R-G-R or Blanc?

Yes, yes, I know about the great burgers in dives (Flea Market, etc.) but I haven't tried either place yet for a burger since moving back to town and want to do that. Your recs welcomed.

maybe moving to Kansas City MO from Boston

We're in the process of making a similar move ... but this one is BACK to Kansas. Had a fabulous dinner at Yia Yia's Eurobistro on Sunday (119th and Roe). Better still ... it's half-price wine on Sundays and Mondays there.

One Dinner in Kansas City - No BBQ

It's a bit outside downtown, but Le Fou Frog is terrific ( Great French food and a quirky environment. Very UN-Kansas City like.

If you're at a hotel you should be able to get a taxi and then perhaps arrange for a pick up later.

Dinner in Topeka?

Any recommendations for a nice, but not high-end expensive dinner in Topeka? A place that has good food, some interesting wines and good service? Perhaps where locals go? Thanks!

The best dinner in Providence...for 9?

I second the Waterman Grille. Underrated food, very good service and a nice setting on the river. And parking!

Providence romantic dinner

I'd suggest Mill's Tavern.

Artisanal, Hidden Gems, Hole in the wall Providence, RI

You could try Local 121:

It's not a pure vegetarian restaurant, but there are options ... should be easy to put something together. The food is quite good and it's a great space — especially in the bar. It's a very easy walk from your hotel; just up Mathewson Street one block.

PVD/RI * May '12 * Open/Closed/Coming Soon

If they're closed on Sundays, that's fine, but their website AND hours posted on the front door should reflect that. Makes me wonder what else they're sloppy about.

PVD/RI * May '12 * Open/Closed/Coming Soon

We TRIED to go there for lunch yesterday after church, but despite the hours posted on the website and the door (open every day, including Sunday, at 11:30), the restaurant was not open at 11:40.

We probably won't go back.

PVD/RI * May '12 * Open/Closed/Coming Soon

I found a Facebook page yesterday:

Wow, what a surprise ... yet ANOTHER basic Italian restaurant with the same dishes everybody else in Rhode Island serves. There's another right down the street ... Il Fornello. We're not originally from New England so I guess we just don't get it. Doesn't anybody here ever get tired of this same stuff? Really? The former owner tried so hard to broaden the menu. It's sad that it didn't work. Yep, bring on another Chicken Parm.

We'll be passing on Edward's.

Waterman Grill, Providence?

I recommend it. Go on Sunday ... they have a great three courses + wine special. Better choices than at most restaurants.

Saturday lunch near Lenox

We're meeting friends in a few weeks to listen to a Saturday morning rehearsal program at Tanglewood, then on to lunch.

So I'm looking for suggestions. We'd probably prefer something in West Stockbridge/Stockbridge/Lee to Lenox itself, but I'm open to anything. What about Great Barrington? Too far?

I've found these so far:
Shaker Mill Taven
Sullivan Station
Salmon Run Fish House

Ideas for dinner in East Greenwich, RI?

We're meeting friends for dinner in a few weeks in East Greenwich (halfway between us).

Any restaurants that are especially good? Or any we should stay away from?
One friend suggested Siena, La Masseria and Meritage. Are any of the restaurants on the water worth a look (20 Water Street, perhaps)?

Water Street Cafe
25 Water St, Plymouth, MA 02360

Lobster, water views, Portsmouth

We're heading to Portsmouth next month with some out-of-town friends, driving up from central Massachusetts.

Any suggestions for:
1. Lunch places along the coast in New Hampshire and/or Southern Maine where we can get good lobster? (And a water view!)
2. Dinner suggestions for Portsmouth?

Lunch on the water in Boston?

We have out-of-town friends visiting in a few weeks, and they want to have lunch in Boston at a place with a water view. If it serves lobster, so much the better.

They suggested Anthony's, but I've read the awful reviews of that place.

Any ideas?
