40th birthday dinner

We have decided to do a dinner at wood fire grill that was advertised on scout mob. It's a 5 course menu paired with beer(Atlanta beer of course). It sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I'll let you know how it is. Thanks for all the suggestions, I will be sure to check some of them out in the future.

40th birthday dinner

I am trying to figure out where to go for dinner for my 40th. It will just be 2 of us and I'd like to go somewhere the food is great, but none of the pretentious atmosphere that some of the "nicer" restaurants in atlanta have.

Suggestions?

4 year old birthday party

Thanks for the ideas... I love the pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate and sprinkles idea.
I think the finger sandwiches will work great - can do adults and kids at the same time, maybe a large pasta salad and cut up fruit.

4 year old birthday party

Having a spring time birthday party in the park for around 20 kids and their parents... Anyone have good options for food that is travel friendly that doesn't need to be warmed or kept cold? Also trying to think of good treat bags, was thinking of doing cake pops for the kids to take home??

Is Nakato Sushi Changing the Rules for Fine Japanese Dining in Atlanta?

I love Nakato - it is always my go to sushi spot. Their quality is always excellent - another good sushi place is Hasiguchi Jr near lenox square - their service is nowhere close to the great service you get at Nakato, but the sushi is always excellent and they have a great lunch menu during the week.

My problem with Dim Sum

We love Royal China off Chamblee Dunwoody road - make sure you go when it is busy so there is a lot of variety Saturday/Sunday around 12 is perfect. All the plates are being changed out quickly so things are hot and their is more variety.

oxtail curry or stew

So I made a vindaloo style curry, but added some xtra aromatics and added some extra sweetness from a south African chutney called mrs balls chutney. My chicken curry recipe I've used for years calls for it, and since I've always eaten it with curry there is no substitute. It was very flavorful. I will try this braised oxtail with Asian flavours next time, it sounds delicious.

I know its spring, but I found a whole oxtail yesterday and had it cut for me and would love to make an oxtail curry. Does anyone have a good recipe - I was thinking with ginger, lemongrass and garlic...

chana dal recipes

Mmmm, sounds delicious. I have eaten chana with fast food restaurants and love the way it keeps a bit of texture. Also like the taste of the chickpeas. I will be trying this sometime this week. Thanks

ground lamb ideas?

Try bobotie - a "south african meatloaf" I grew up eating this it is not really a meatloaf, but rather a baked meatdish with dried fruit and baked with an egg custard. I always add dried apricot and some ground almonds.

The recipe below from blog I found is pretty good - I normally make a couple of variations to make it like my momma's...

strawberry cupcake recipes?

I have made these cupcakes twice - delicious. I had also done lots of research and abandoned the sprinkles cupcake idea due to bad reviews and lots of posts about it not being the same as what you can buy at the store. Also this one is really easy and stays nice and moist.

weber gas grill vs ?

I think we're going to have to go with the genesis weber - I have to convince the SO, but since I do most of the grilling should be easy.
Has anyone used the rotisserie attachment? I do love rotisserie chicken and leg of lamb on the grill.

weber gas grill vs ?

I'm looking for a new gas grill... Yes I know charcoal is better, but I don't want to hear that lecture, I don't have the time - I agree it tastes better!!!
We have been looking at Weber spirit or the next model up, but need some guidance as to whether it is really worth the extra $$$ for the weber.
Please help and add guidance and info

Thanksgiving dressing

Thanks for all the replies - I have been living in the South for a while now and like the crusty bits you get when you bake the dressing outside of the bird. I will be attempting my cornbread on Wednesday and baking the dressing Thursday.
Happy Turkey day/Thanksgiving to all

Thanksgiving dressing

Okay I like dressing not stuffing like my grandmother used to make. Can I have some ideas on dressings please for Thanksgiving - I need actual recipes since I am not well versed in this kind of cooking. Last year I made a good one with cornbread, apples and sausage, but I cannot remember which recipe I used so am looking for some new ideas this year.

freezing the fresh turkey?

Okay, I am cooking my second Thanksgiving and had a great moist bird last year using a kosher turkey from TJ's. I bought one today, but am unsure do I freeze it until next weekend and then start defrosting it, or do I keep it in the fridge?

Also will be my Mum's first Thanksgiving ever and want to make some great sides... any suggestions. I do have limited oven space since the turkey will take all the space up for ~3-4 hours on the day.

Squid or Octopus in a CrockPot?

My Grandmother always used to cook octopus in the pressure cooker for an hour to make it tender. I have also heard of dropping a wine cork in the cooking liquid to make it tender.
I stick with quick cooking of squid usually and cook quickly in a spicy tomato sauce and serve over pasta

an impressive and easy summer dinner

Hi phurstluv, dinner is this Saturday. I love your butterflied leg of lamb idea but am a bit scared since have never grilled lamb. I have roasted it in the oven and love lamb. Can you guide me through it and give me a recipe. I think I will make the sliced cucumbers and mint and couscous. How long should I marinate it and what size? There will be 8 of us plus some for leftovers - love lamb sandwiches. I have a gas grill with a rotisserie if necessary can make smoke pouches.

Any suggestions of what to order at Float Away cafe in Atlanta? I've looked over the menu - but it all looks so good it will be hard to decide. Desserts look delicious - don't need any suggestions on them!
