Yes, thanks for the review! I want to try the FH location, but the one thing I really love about Lelli's is the excellent service that I've received over the many years. First the ambiance of the Detroit location was lost and now service. I don't know if I could handle it :) . Maybe I'll wait a bit until they get their service side together.

A friend told me she saw a sign in Southfield around Northwestern Hwy area that Lellis was coming soon to that location. I checked their website to try and find more info, but couldn't find any. Does anyone know more details? I am really hoping since it would be closer to home.

Best Brownies - Awrey's
I thought a while back there was someone looking for the best brownies in the Metro Detroit area. I couldn't find the topic doing a search, but I think I've found the brownies. Awrey's Bakery Outlet on Farmington Rd in Livonia has some awesome brownies (and at a great price)! I was looking for the brownies that are plain with chocolate swirls and nuts on top that someone had broght to a recent school function, but had to settle for nut brownies with fudge frosting. DELICIOUS!!! A whole huge sheet for only $5.99. They also have turtle and peanut butter brownies. If going check the hours. I think they are closed on Sunday and Monday.

I have been to Giulio's several times and have always enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service. My favorites are the filet mignon with zip sauce and the chicken piccata. Another plus is that they have coupons. Be sure to click on the coupon link on their web site.

Comparii's and Fiama's are both great choices with Fiama's being more expensive. LaBisteca is one of my favs, but definitely pricey. One more suggestion would be Gandy Dancer in Ann Arbor. It's located in a building that used to be a train station.

If in the Livonia area Sweet Elite on 8 Mile, Just Baked for cupcakes on 7 Mile (also a location in Twelve Oaks Mall), or a wonderful little bakery, Heritage Bakery on 5 Mile.
I have to agree with boagman regarding Astoria. I have purchased several items that fell very short of my expectations. If I do puchase anything it's their cookies or brownies. They have a turtle brownie that I thoroughly enjoy.
Does Tony Packo's really do a hot dog? [Toledo]
We love Tony Packo's and stop in whenever the opportunity arises. I know what you mean about the half hot dog thing. I was kind of put off by it also, but thought it was very good and have found their pricing on food to be very affordable. I have also gotten a hot dog there previously that was a full hot dog, so I just had to call and ask. I was told that the Tony Packo's hot dog is one half of a hot dog and to get a full dog you need to get a Double Dog.
2010 Detroit Auto Show - Looking for local rec's
Ate at Roast a few weeks ago. Great atmosphere and food, but I prefer the Coach Insignia at the top of the Ren Cen.
Greektown is easy to via the People Mover. My favorite has always been Pegasus. Greektown casino is there also if you like to do a little gambling.
If you don't have a car, personally I wouldn't cab it to Miller's. They're good, but not cab fare good.

Thanks for the info. I went to Polanka's today. They did have several herring types in the jar. I haven't tried them yet (or the kielbasa). I'll try your suggestions. My sister's coming into town next week. Maybe I'll have to have a herring tasting.

I'm looking for fresh pickeled herring in the western suburbs of Detroit (Livonia, Northville, Plymough, Farmington areas). Kroger has them, but they're kind of a hit or miss. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Good Mexican near Northville, MI
My favorite Mexican in the Northville area is Border Cantina on Novi Rd about 1/2 mile north of Eight Mile.
There's also an On the Border on Haggerty Rd. just north of 8 Mile.
If you change your mind, there's a mongolian bbq type restaurant called Sizzling Sticks that's just behind the band shell. They also serve up some really good salsa and chips with your meal. You'd probably have to get there early though because of where they're located.
