Best seafood restuarant in Cambridge or Somerville?

I know it is cool here on CH to hate on Summer Shack but it is my favorite. The quality of the seafood, selection of oysters, excellent service, and just consistently great cooking, bring me back all the time.

recommendations for NYE in New Orleans?

We are not looking for the prix fixe set menu experience, as I said. We are looking for good food, and the regular menu of the restaurant. Don't care about the champagne toast, its always cheap bubbly anyway. Not looking for a NYE event, just a really nice dinner. Have not been to NO before on NYE but really want a reservation wherever we are. I'm from Boston, where you would never go out without one, especially on a holiday. I have several other nights on my visit to experiment with places without a reservation.

Best Hotel Room Service in Boston....Four Seasons?

I have never ordered anything from room service but breakfast, but Taj does excellent room service breakfast - quick service and everything nice and hot and good coffee.

recommendations for NYE in New Orleans?

We will be in New Orleans for the week after Christmas, staying at the Omni in the FQ. Any recommendations for New Year's Eve dinner? we have a reservation for the Rib Room but they are having a prix fixe set menu and that is usually a disappointment in my experience. We don't mind splashing out, just want to have some really good food.

Fried Smelt? (Stay on topic!!!)

Summer Shack has them but not always - they are usually on the blackboard when in season, and you can get an appetizer or dinner portion. They're fried and very good.

Who will cater a Christmas day dinner in Cambridge??

I need Christmas dinner for 17 people on Christmas day. I would be willing to pick it up the day before if it is something that will re=heat well. Lots of places do Thanksgiving dinner (Summer Shack, Pemberton Farms, to name two), but few do Christmas - any recommendations?

a welcome new neighborhood place in cambridge

Had dinner with my family at Casbah, Sari Abul-Jubein's (of Casablanca) new restaurant on New Street behind the Fresh Pond Mall. Now that his liquor license is online, it's a great addition to the area for a reasonably priced dinner out, with a nice array of middle east/mediterranean type dishes. Pulled lamb, greek ragouti and tzatziki were all yummy - also a side dish of couscous with pumpkin seeds in it, a nice surprise. Kofte skewers were much praised around the table as well as kebabs. The room is decorated in warm colors with a nice bar. A front patio promises nice outdoor sitting in the warmer months. A well priced menu means we'll go back again soon, I really recommend this place.

Legal Seafoods (sigh)

I generally think that Legal's in Harvard Square is good, nice cold oysters and the other dishes are good, and the ambiance is far better than most other Legal's. The ones in the Pru are DREADFUL on all counts. Chestnut Hill just OK. ANd the one in the USAIr terminal at Logan a surprisingly bright port in the storm of flying.

Looking for cooked turkey for Christmas

thanks to all for the suggestions - we did beef instead - but I probably will go back to turkey next year so these are valuable to me!

Looking for cooked turkey for Christmas

Thanks for the idea but to my family, a turkey is a roast turkey, not a smoked turkey.

Looking for cooked turkey for Christmas

I am looking for a cooked turkey to pick up on Christmas Eve day. I don't want a full cooked meal, I always cook the meal myself - except for the turkey. Places that cook the turkey for Thanksgiving (Savenors, Pemberton) dont cook them for Chrsitmas. HELP!

ISO: Davis Square restaurant- Sat. lunch, good for conversation

Orleans in Davis Square has good food (not remarkable, but quite good) and a really civilized setup where you can sit over a meal for a long time and they don;t seem to mind. They have booths, tables, and an area of couches etc as well as the bar area. The other day I went late after noon to meet friends, asked for a mojito expecting they would say "no mint" (because it;s out of season and they had the mint and made a terific mojito. Have gone there a lot with family ad friends over the years and it just seems to work. Nice staff.

Restaurant or pub with function room in West Roxbury / Jamaica Plain / Brookline / Newton area?

Union Street in Newton Centre has an upstairs room that they use for private parties - it has a bar abd pool table - the place is very casual and services pub food (think wings, fried pickles) but is big enough for your group - I did a high school grad party there and it worked out well, the people were nice to work with

Mother's Day Brunch

I hate it when restaurants do a "special menu" for Mother's Day or other holiday, the food is always inferior and it feels like a rip-off. Mistral is definitely a gerat choice.

Mother's Day Brunch

We have done Mother's Day at Harvest and it was very good. There was enough familiar food for older mothers. Another thought is Henrietta's Table.

Mother's Day in Hull?

Thanks for all the great tips. I ended up picking Jake's, their menu shows a decent choice of chicken/beef and the rest of us love seafood. And they were able to accomodate us at 2:00 for lunch, which was perfect.
We had been to Saporito's for Mother's Day a few years ago, I liked it but my mother just didn't "get" it. Did Scarlet Oak in Hingham last year (very good). I take my mom to The Square a lot, so it wouldn;t have been different.
Again, thanks for the tips, I don't live on the South Shore (grew up there) and it really helps to get the local knowledge. Lunch on Mother's Day is always a crapshoot (everyplace is a zoo) but if you can ride the carousel after lunch, it's a nice day!!
