Pie Man's Profile
Chazz A Bronx Original
We went there a few weeks ago and thought the pizza and eggplant parm app were both excellent. The crust was thin, charred and chewy on the pie and the eggplant was also charred in the awesome oven that dominates the room.
The Brewers Art, Baltimore
$4 is for the half size beers they sell in the restaurant. I was charged $18 for a full sized Resurrection draft beer and a glass of Red Guitar wine at the bar downstairs.
The above plus the $120 dinner for two upstairs that consisted of a couple of salads, a near tasteless Steak Frites and a marginal piece of tuna convinced me not to go back.
I think the praise and pricing for this place are based more on its hip reputation and prior chef than on present day quality.
The Brewers Art, Baltimore
I ate there last Saturday night for the first time in a few years and was disappointed as the menu was limited and the food and service upstairs were both very marginal.
The beers were good ( but at $8-9 a clip they should be!) and the bar downstairs was packed. As we left we were thinking that BA has turned into more of a place to drink than eat.

Mr. Rain's is good but pricey. Tabrizi's is short walk from AVAM at the same price level and Porters Pub is shorter walk for a more casual, lower price meal and is very good. Little Havana's is close too for very casual pub grub and a big happy hour crowd.
Whatever you decide to do, avoid the temptation to walk across the street to Rusty Scupper!

Love letter to Baltimore and its food
At the risk of sounding like a wuss, I have to admit that i got a little choked up reading that post. Good stuff.
Jules' Restaurant, Ocean City, Maryland
I ate at the bar there a couple of years ago and remember it as being pretty good.....and outstanding compared to most of the alternatives in Ocean City.
It's expensive, but at least you get a good quality meal for your money, unlike some of the traps down there.
Dirty vodka martinis in bmore?
The Cosmopolitan makes a good one....ask for it with Hangar One vodka.
Pazo does a pretty good job with theirs too. Further away are Ixia in Mt. Vernon and the Stalking Horse in Federal Hill that both have a pretty good vodka selection and know how to mix the olive juice in correctly.
Hammer and Sickle Vodka
Thanks HS, I'll check back in a couple of days to see if you have any luck with the Baltimore locations.
Stern was talking about it this past Monday on Sirius. One of his guests ( I can't remember who but think it was a musician) had sent him a bottle to try and Stern was thanking him and teling him how good it was. They usually re-run the week's highlights on Friday, so if that segment is selected for this week you may be able to catch it then.
Hammer and Sickle Vodka
How about Baltimore city or metro area locations that carry H&S? I heard Howard Stern raving about this vodka the other day and looked for it at my regular place but they didn't have it.
Baltimore Steak Wars....Who Ya Got?
I think the Outbacks vary heavily by location. The one in Hunt Valley is decent but the one in Canton serves inedible slop.
Although Outback and Flemings are owned by the same company they clearly use two very different type and quality of steaks.
Baltimore Steak Wars....Who Ya Got?
It seems to me that all 7 are basically the same restaurant as they all sell the same cuts of meat and one or two grilled fish, prepared the same way for about the same price. The only difference between them is usually a slight variation of the "house specialty" potatoes and which wine vendor they buy from.
What I don't see is how 7 very expensive, nearly identical restaurants located within about a quarter mile of each other can all survive in this economy when other good places are either scaling down their menus or closing.
Baltimore Steak Wars....Who Ya Got?
With Sullivans getting ready to open on Light street next to the Hyatt we're going to have 7 high end steak houses within a couple hundred yard of each other around the Harbor.
Given that these are all vey similiar $75 per person and up expense account or special occasion type restaurants, it's hard to imagine they will all make it through in this economy.
Which ones will surivive? Do you think they all can make it or how many so you think will close in the next 12 months?
Cast your votes for Morton's, Sullivan's, Capital Grill, Fleming's, Shula's, Ruth Chris' on Water Street and Ruth Chris' at Pier 5.
Broadway Diner in Baltimore
I don't know ck, the smoked salmon BLT at that diner in Salt Lake City almost looked good enough to be worth a trip across the country !
Broadway Diner in Baltimore
The seafod pasta and ghoulash both looked great....I don't see them on the menu but there's some other interesting looking items to explore.

Broadway Diner in Baltimore
I saw this place profiled on "Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins" last night and it looked awesome. I can't believe after 10 years downtown and 5 reading this board that I've never been there or seen a posting from a hound raving about the place.
If anyone has been I would love to know what the other specialties are and if it's really as good as the show made it seem.
Brewer's Art in Baltimore
Anyone eaten here recently? We're going on Saturday and this used to be one of our favorite places, but I haven't been in a few years and know they went through some changes a while back.
I'm assuming that even if the food isn't quite the same the potent ales will make that not matter quite as much.
Inner Harbor Baltimore lunch with little kids
We're at Harborplace all the time with our 4 year old and have found Houlihan's to be the best bet both for her and us. It is very kid friendly (milk shakes in kid cups, crayons and a decent kid's menu) and has pretty good sandwiches and salads for the adults. It's also right on the south end of the Pier 4 building next ot the aquarium. I think it's definitely the 'best of the worst" of the tourist traps.
Five Guys in the Pratt St. Pavillion is also pretty good if you can do burgers, dogs and fries in a very casual place.
Luca's Cafe in Locust Point
Thanks! One way or the other it sounds like it's going to be interesting.
Luca's Cafe in Locust Point
Thanks for the update. Can you elaborate on the "grilled pizza" description? I'm assuming you don't mean grilled over an open flame, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Will it be baked in a gas oven and use the same high quality cheeses that Matthews uses? Is the dough going to be made in house?
Thanks for any more info. you can give us.
Luca's Cafe in Locust Point
Sounds interesting, like they might be using a variation of Matthew's concepts in a brick oven or just going for their own style. Either way, as long as they know how to make, toss and cook the dough and use high quality sauce and cheese, it will be a very welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Luca's Cafe in Locust Point
Thanks, this is good news. I hope it's still going to be what was initially reported about a pizza cafe with Matthew's style pie.
I'll put it on the calendar and check it out.
Luca's Cafe in Locust Point
Anybody know when this place is going to open on Fort Avenue and if we're really getting a disciple of Matthew's Pizza over on the south side?
The sign is up and I seem to remember a mention of this place here or somewhere else a few months ago that said the owners were somehow related to Matthew's, and that this was going to be a pizza place, but maybe I was dreaming.
Brick Pizza Oven in your house? [moved from DC/Baltimore board]
Great info. Warthog.
I've been thinking how nice it would be to have a brick pizza oven in my next house. It seems that gas would be the only thing feasible, but I'm not sure if it works well with brick. Is it possible to have a coal, charcoal or wood fired brick oven at home that's safe and isn't a ton of work?
Cafe Amore update?
Sorry Warthog, I haven't made it over to Little Italy lately to ask him and haven't heard a thing about where, if anywhere, they are opening up a new version of Cafe Amore.
I really hope they do as there is a serious good pizza vacuum in South Baltimore and northern AA county right now and I will post if I hear anything
Anyone eaten in Easton recently?
Looking for a good restaurant for a Saturday night dinner where we will have 2 seniors with us and a 3 year old in tow. Casual with great food would be perfect.
Ruth's Chris
About $100 total for a salad, app. and entree each. Add any booze and tip on top of that.
Believe it or not they do a great grilled swordfish that always seems to be one of the specials.
Cafe Amore update?
Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything about them opening up elsewhere either. It was worth the 20 minute drive from downtown to GB for the real Rocco's pie.
Maybe I'll stop in to Capriccio in Little Italy and ask Rocco himself if and where his kids might be opening up? I can use it as an excuse to load up on some good chow while I'm there.
Good Pizza/Subs/carryout in Severna Park
The rolls are not quite Amoroso good, but they're not bad and at least not those excessively doughy ones that are used in many MD sub shops.
Good Pizza/Subs/carryout in Severna Park
Squisito's Pizza in the strip shopping center across from Dawsons Store ( about 2 miles off Ritchie Hwy on B&A Blvd on the right side) has great pizza and there is a good Philly Cheese steak place 3 doors down and a good gelato place 2 more doors down from that.
