Help with a Baltimore favorite - the shrimp cheesesteak
Beats the heck out of me. I've lived here almost 35 years and never heard of a shirmp cheesesteak. My guess would be they put some breaded fried shrimp on a cheesesteak sandwich, but no clue.
Gringada near Beltsvile
Has anyone been to the Gringada restaurant on Rt. 1 in/near Beltsville recently? We used to go there all the time years ago, but it went downhill. Then for a while it looked closed, but recently I noticed they've added an outdoor seating area so wondering if the restaurant has been revitalized?
Best fried chicken near Howard County
I have had a craving for fried chicken for a long while, time to indulge. But it is absolutely not something I should be eating while trying to lose weight. So -- if I'm going to indulge in this craving I want it to be really excellent fried chicken. Crispy skin, moist meat, not greasy.
Does anyone have a recommendation in or near Howard County?
Grade B Maple Syrup?
I think it's just your palate, bubba3197. Like wines. Maybe your palate just can't pick up the taste difference. it's just how you were made. I can definitely tell the difference between Grade A and Grade B, and I really prefer the stronger flavor of the Grade B. I am searching for Grade C, thanks for the link curioussheridan.
We are currently using some Grade B that I got at MOM's in Jessup. Previously, it was really hard to find and I ordered it from King Arthur flour. I, also, have seen it at TJ;s.
Brach's Fiesta Malted Easter Eggs
Treetop Tom, I was just thinking about these yesterday. Since you are in the area, have you tried the malted milk balls at Ken's Old Fashioned Candy Store in Catonsville ? Delicious.
Ground venison?
Does anyone know of a MD source for ground venison? I see restaurants have it on the menu, so it must be available somewhere. I know I can buy it online but would like to buy one pound first to see if it works for what I have in mind. I don't know any lucky hunters. thanks!
Hepburn Orchard in Hancock, closed?
We drove by, headed to the Pittsburgh area this past Friday. The building is up and open, renamed Blue Goose Market and Bakery. They have a giant American flag flying so easy to spot. We didn't have time to go in, unfortunately, so I can't report anything except the opening.
What is your single worst meal ever in the DC/Baltimore area?
The one and only time we went to Sabatino's we were sitting cheek to jowl with the tables next to us. It was SO cramped, for a "white tablecloth" place that any thoughts of an intimate conversation were thrown out. Honestly it was as if we were at a large group table rather than our own table for two. The food was less than mediocre, service was lousy. We never understood the draw and never went back.
source for smoked pork chops in DC?
Beiler's Meats in the Laurel Amish Farmer's market has great ones. I know that's not the immediate D.C. area, though.
Good rye bread?
Still on my good rye bread quest. I went to The Breadery (now in Catonsville) and talked with the baker. He makes some artisian breads now that they've relocated so thought I'd ask. He told me he makes a couple different types of rye bread, about twice a week. He promised me some on Thurs or Fri so I plan to check back. I will report, in case anyone else is interested.
Lunch over MD Bay Bridge
Tks overboost44. I told my husband that The Narrows was known for their cream of crab soup, not veg. crab, but he really doesn't like cream of crab. As you said. He just got a small one so no big deal. Everything else was fine.
Lunch over MD Bay Bridge
Thanks. I have no idea why I couldn't find my original query & thread. I tried all sorts of search queries. Oh well.
We went to The Narrows. My mom had salmon which seemed to be cooked perfectly. It came with spinach, which she really liked. I had fried oysters, the batter needed a touch of salt. My husband had the vegetable crab soup (ok, not great), crabcake appetizer (excellent, lots of lump crab meat), and cioppino (gritty mussels) . But the view was wonderful, and my mom really enjoyed the lunch.
Thanks for all your help, everyone!
Lunch over MD Bay Bridge
Thanks ! We're heading over tomorrow. Good to know we have an option.
Lunch over MD Bay Bridge
I'd like to take my mother for lunch over on MD's eastern shore. I know I asked this once, but I can't find my post and it could be that things have changed. Things happened and I never got to take her for that lunch. My mom has never been over the Bay Bridge, so I'd like to take her over that then someplace that has a nice water view and good food. Does not have to be the best meal you've ever eaten, but hoping the food will be good so the drive is worthwhile. She loves fin fish, but not clams, mussels, or steamed crabs.
Any advice? Thanks in advance!
A Tale of Two More Crabcakes (well, more than two actually)
Nancy Longo has been making those smoked crabcakes for a long time now, and they are always very good. I still like my own homemade crabcakes best. Crabcakes are just a very touchy subject here in Baltimore. As is the Lexington Market. Everyone has an opinion!

Coffee in the Baltimore Area?
I haven't been real impressed with Balt. Coffee & Tea. The coffee is ok, nothing special. Pretty weak in my opinion, but we all have different opinions about coffee strength. What I hate is that I STINK like all their assorted flavors whenever I shop there for gifts. After a couple hours I get real tired of smelling that junk on myself.
Alaskan King Crab
oh my goodness, don't avoid Hooters like the plague. It is nothing fancy, but the chicken wings are just fine and it is an "experience". As good a place as any for you to kick back and relax. Why not check it out!!!
Alaskan King Crab
More to what Soup says, it's very easy to reheat at home. I've gotten it frozen now and again.
This just isn't a big king crab area. Red Lobster (a chain) definitely has it.
Place to buy oysters (fish market?) between DC and Philly
Frank's Seafood at the Jessup Fish Market (believe Frank's is the only place there that sells to the public). Right off I-95 at the exit for Rte. 175 (Jessup). My favorite place to buy fresh seafood.
Giffords?
There is a story in the news today that Gifford's of Maine just bought the local Gifford's.
Looking for Ben & Jerry's new flavor....Schweddyballs
I plan to check a Shoppers near me today, the flavor just sounds really good! Maybe I'll wear a disguise !
Good Reubin Sandwich in MD?
Right - I had a momentary spelling lapse! So of course it's all very prominent in my post. Tks.
Good Reubin Sandwich in MD?
Thanks everyone. It's not a sandwich I should be eating, what with all the fat and calories. But darn it, when I'm ready to indulge I want to eat something that is WORTH the calorie expenditure!
Good Reubin Sandwich in MD?
Anyone have any suggestions for a good Reubin sandwich? It is my mom's favorite, mine too, and I'd really like to take her for a good one. I live in Howard County, MD, she's in Leisure World (Silver Spring, MD) so anywhere in those general areas would be ideal.
I tried Jason's Deli's - fatty pastrami, rye bread was pretty blah. I'm looking for one with all good ingredients, each with flavor, that balance out into a really tasty sandwich.
Tersiguel's--Elicott City--opinion please
I don't know the answer to your question, FoiGras except to say we feel the same way. We know the Tersiguel family and they are wonderful, giving, caring, talented people. We used to go to the restaurant quite a bit, we live 10 miinutes away, and now we just don't. The overall experience has always been good, as you experienced (yes ! what is with that wonderful butter??? where do they get it I wonder??) There is nothing WRONG with the food, we simply aren't WOWED by the experience as you said. We used to be, and I don't know what has changed that.

Terrie - they also have a booth at the Christmas Craft Show over Thanksgiving weekend at the Frederick Fairgrounds. Or at least they did last year.
Salvadoran - Jessup?
Has anyone been to the Salvadoran restaurant in Jessup, across Rt. 1 from the Arby's? I think the name is Las Vegas or something close to that.
Seabrook frozen creamed spinach?
Have you looked at your local Giant? I used to see it there, as well as Super Fresh (but I no longer have a local Super Fresh).
Apiary selling honey in MD?
I just started getting delivery from them, but I missed the honey on their website. Thanks for the head's up, laststandchili!!
Apiary selling honey in MD?
From their website, it might well have been "The Bee Folks" who I got the honey from this spring. Thank you!!
