Recommendation for a restaurant near UCF for a group of 20

Can anyone help out with a recommendation for a group of 20 recent college grads? I'll be leading a Q&A session for a group about to head to Japan to teach English. I'd like to do Japanese, but am not that familiar with the UCF area. However, it can be any cuisine as long as we can get in for under $20-25 a head.

Needs to be near the UCF campus as that's where we'll be first meeting.

Many thanks to the Orlando chowhound community!

As for Japanese, they didn't have any specific other/new recommendations. But even if the quality had slipped a bit, Hanamizuki is definitely still a top notch place for washoku. The Japanese (at least the ones I work with!) are perfectionists, so what to them may be a slight drop in quality might hardly be noticeable to you and I.

One place I'd definitely recommend that hasn't appeared yet is Aki Japanese restaurant. Its very mom-and-pop (think white plastic tables and chairs with tile floors) but has good food for a very reasonable price. For dinner its much cheaper than hanamizuki, and with a more laid back atmosphere.

Finally I have not yet been to the relocated Rangetsu in Maitland but I've been told its under the same management as the location that was on I-drive. The decor and atmosphere are 100% different. Now its got more of a trendy, cocktail lounge type vibe. The chirashi-sushi is very good apparently.

As for just sushi, I've heard good things about Sushi-pop and look forward to checking it out.

Also, Shin is hard to beat. I'm not sure if it made it on this thread, but I'd put it near the top of the Orlando sushi hierarchy.

Orlando - Best Mexican Restaurant

Just took a look a their Spanish menu. Cannot wait to check this place out! It looks really authentic. Thanks for the recommendation. Since moving to Orlando 5 years ago I've been so disappointed by the lack of great Mexican food and its great to find something new.

And I love their name! Chilango is slang for anyone from Mexico City.

Hanamizuki has great, authentic, Japanese set lunches (which include pickles, miso soup and rice). Things like tonkatsu (breaded and fried pork cutlet), zaru-soba (cold soba noodles with a soy based dipping sauce), shoga-yaki (kind of like pork chops pan fried with ginger), donburi (a bowl of rice with things like tempura, shredded beef or sashimi on top), and the very best ramen I've had in Florida. The stuff you'd find in a typical restaurant in Japan.

Their lunches are a good deal but dinner is considerably more expensive. I've always been told its the best Japanese place in town, but lately some of my Japanese co-workers have said the quality has slipped a bit. I was there last month and the ramen was as good as ever but I'd be interested in hearing opinions from other chowhounders.

Dim Sum In Orlando

Has anyone here been to Chan's on Colonial? I've heard good things. I've also had pretty good dim sum at Golden Lotus in the plaza with WalMart on the corner of John Young and Sand Lake.

Orlando - Best Mexican Restaurant

I'm in agreement with Sam here. Although I've never been to the original, the restaurant they used to have on Hiawassee had the best, most authentic, tacos I've ever had in Florida. Very similar to stuff I'd eat when I lived in Mexico City.

If you're looking for TexMex I had a good meal at Garibaldi.

Cupcakes / cookies / baked goods delivery options in Orlando and/or Winter Park?

Does anyone know of any bakeries in the Orlando area that deliver? I'd prefer cupcakes, but would settle for cookies as well. I'd like to send a pick me up gift for a friend who's had a rough week.

Thanks

Please recommend me a semi-formal, good, Italian or Chinese restaurant in Orlando

Apparently, anywhere in town is fine, but if possible near Doctor Philips or Hunters Creek. I came to a similar conclusion regarding Chinese , but have had Timpano and Brio recommended to me for Italian.

BTW, we had a good time at Dragonfly last week with the group. We're thinking of hitting up one of the Peruvian restaurants in town for March. Hope you can make it.

Please recommend me a semi-formal, good, Italian or Chinese restaurant in Orlando

Hi, I am planning a dinner for a visitor coming to town and have been requested we go someplace either Italian or Chinese. As common as these two cuisines are, they're not the types of restaurants I usually go to for dinner. I know of a good dim-sum restaurant up on Colonial but that wasn't the ambiance I was hoping for. If possible I'd like to avoid chains although I may have to go with that (PF Changs perhaps?).

Thanks for the help!

Orlando Chowdown - July 27 at Nile Ethiopian Restaurant

I'd also like to thank Sam for that write up. He covered everything. I agree that the bread was the most unique part of the meal. In addition to its texture, it had a very distinct almost sour flavor to it. The presentation of the meal reminded me a lot of south Indian cooking, where you receive an assortment of vegetarian items like lentils and rice in curry sauce (curry might not be the exact word I'm looking for here, but you get the picture...) all placed on a banana leaf. Here you eat with the bread and its not at all vegetarian, whereas in India you'd eat with your hands.

Just as Sam said, the food was spicy flavorful. There was not much heat at all. Overall it was wonderful, and we finished everything.

Thanks to three of you who came out. Good food, good beer, and good conversation= a great night out. I look forward till next month.
