Hokkaido Seafood Buffet Opens In Westside Pavilion
I thought the food in this buffet was only okay as well. However, a major downer was their policy of charging extra for crab legs. AYCE crab legs are the best part of a seafood buffet for me. Here, they charge 4.99 per pound of crab legs. Nobody ends up buying the crab legs and they sit around all day or multiple days, losing the freshness. Sad situation. They should just charge more up front and allow AYCE.
Laurrent Quenoix truffle tasting menu dinner??? when/
That sounds great. Are there any truffle tasting menus in November? I'm willing to go anywhere in LA.

Is Shig the gentleman that works by himself behind the smaller sushi bar?
Beef noodle soup with unlimited pickled vegetables?
Hey guys,
Is there a Taiwanese/Chinese beef noodle soup place that has unlimited pickled vegetables (shuan chai) for condiment? All the places in Taiwan have this, but the places I've been to in the US only give you a little bit.

Mori Update- Hokkaido Hairy Crab
Hi Porthos,
Thanks for letting me know how much this particular omakase was. I figured it would be more with the hairy crab. To me, ~200pp is a big difference from 100-120. ~200pp is over my price range
Thanks,
Ming
Mori Update- Hokkaido Hairy Crab
Nice report! Sounds amazing. Would you mind telling me how much this omakase meal was?
Current best sunday brunch buffet?
Just called the Four Seasons Doheny. They said that the Sunday brunch buffet is still going on in the Culina restaurant. Thinking about going tomorrow. Has anyone been? Is there a seafood selection like at the old Langham/Ritz?

Current best sunday brunch buffet?
Thanks for the update. What I really loved about the Langham/Ritz was the seafood.
Current best sunday brunch buffet?
Apparently, the Langham Pasadena has changed to an ala carte sunday brunch according to their website. Can anyone confirm this? This would suck b/c that was my favorite brunch buffet in LA.
What's the best brunch buffet these days?
Sushi Gen: Great sushi...Damn good deal
Sushi Gen is my favorite place and I go all the time. For fans of simple, straight up fresh fish, there is no better place. It's funny that you guys have also noticed their use of a random number generator for the bill. I've ordered the exact same things before and ended up with significantly different bills. Overall though, its still great value for the quality of fish.
Taste of the Nation LA
This sounds great! I've never been to an event like this. Does the price include both food and drinks?
Mori Update- Buri belly now at its prime.
Sounds delicious! Was this part of a nigiri omakase? May I ask what the price range is for this?
Thanks.
Which do you think is a better Sushi Buffet in Honolulu?
Although no buffet can match a great sushi bar experience at its best, my wife and I have found Hakone to be one of the best sushi buffets that we've had. It is very pricey, but the quality of most of their fish is at the upper levels. It is a relatively small buffet, but the ingredients are high quality. I think it really depends on how much you want to spend. This is much much better than something like Todai, but you'll be paying for it.
Korean crab place - Olympic at Harvard Ave?
Cool! Thanks for the info. It looks like this place is similar to Ondal II which I love. Anyone been to both before? I wonder how they compare.
Korean crab place - Olympic at Harvard Ave?
I keep driving by this korean seafood place at the intersection of Olympic and Harvard in Ktown. It has a neon sign with a picture of a crab and fish on it. It doesn't have an English name on the outside. Does anyone know anything about this restaurant? I'm thinking about trying it out.
Indian Seafood?
Reporting back....went to Jaipur and had the fish kabob which was excellent. It was made with chilean seabass which kind of surprised me. However, the fattiness of the chilean seabass really went well with the spices. Really good dish!
On the other hand, my wife got the tandoori shrimp and it was only okay. The shrimp were very fresh, but the flavor was lacking somewhat. Still good though.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. If anyone else knows of good Indian seafood, please post!
Indian Seafood?
I'm a huge seafood fan and I love indian food, but I haven't been able to find a place that does this combination well. I'm thinking of something along the lines of grilled tandoori seabass or shrimp, but any good indian seafood will do. Westside is preferable, but I'm willing to travel!
Golden state debuting lamb burger
Craftbar's lamb slider is ridiculously good! Where else in LA is there a great lamb burger?
Where to buy lamb ribs?
Yes, they were the ribs I had from Jack Stack's BBQ. However, they charge a premium ($60-80 for 2 racks) and I was hoping to make them a little cheaper. I'm not sure what riblets look like. The ones I'm looking for are about the size of a baby back rib.
Where to buy lamb ribs?
I recently had some great BBQ'd lamb ribs in Kansas city and I want to try and make it myself. However, I haven't been able to find lamb ribs in LA. These lamb ribs kind of look like baby back ribs.
Anyone know where I can get them?
Thanks!
One lunch and one dinner in San Jose area - suggestions?
Thanks for the suggestions! I definitely try to hit up at least one those places. I will be in Mt. View for lunch on a saturday. Maybe Amber for lunch buffet and Dio Deka for dinner?
One lunch and one dinner in San Jose area - suggestions?
Hi,
I'm going to be traveling up to San Jose from Los Angeles for one day only. I'll be staying in Mountain View, but I do have a car. What are some places that I should try that I can't really get in LA? It can also be something that is done better in San Jose than in LA. Ethnic food is preferred, but I'm open to anything.
Thanks!
All you can eat crab legs?
Is there a good place that has all you can eat crab legs. I used to go to lighthouse buffet and eat the crab legs there. These were the cold snow crab legs. I'm not a big fan of the hot crab legs seen at Zen buffet.
Will I like sushi zo?
I've been trying to decide whether to go do the omakase at Sushi Zo for a long time. I'm a big fan of traditional sushi. I definitely don't like small thin slices of fish or oversauced fish. I really disliked Echigo, especially the lunch special. Is Zo similar in style to Echigo (ie size of sushi and sauces?)
Sushi Gen is my go to place for traditional sushi.
So, will I like Sushi Zo?
koba- korean food in west la
Does this place by any chance serve mul neng myun (the Korean cold noodles). I love to eat this, but can't find a place on the west side that has it.
Help! Low fat chocolate cake needed.
Hey everyone,
We used to love the low fat marble tea loaf at Trader Joe's, but for some unknown reason they discontinued this popular item. Now, I'm having trouble finding a good low fat chocolate cake. Anyone have any suggestions?
R23 for lunch?
Hi,
Anyone know what R23 is like for lunch? Do they have any reasonably priced lunch specials? I'm thinking about going with a work group.
Best duk bo sam in K-town?
My wife is in love with duk bo sam (?sp) which is the thin rice paper used to wrap bbq'd meats. Where is the best place to get this at since I'm taking her out this weekend for a belated valentines dinner (ie best balance of bbq meat and pan chan). It doesn't have to be a nice place. Good food is romance for her.
Thanks!
Sushi Gen vs. IZAYOI for lunch??
I enjoy both the Izayoi bento and the sushi gen sashimi lunch plate. However IMO, I think that while the Izayoi bento is good, it is not a destination lunch for me. Other places have good bento also.
On the other hand, the sushi gen sashimi lunch is the best lunch special of its kind period. I would drive from the valley or the west side just to get it. You do have to deal with either huge lines or an early arrival (10:50AM), but this is a testament to how great this lunch is.
