Friend visiting LA for 2 days, any suggestions?

I was thinking good ambiance and good food.
Ketchup, Katsuya, BLD, vibe meets Blue Velvet, Comme Ca, Grace, etc... good eats.
Didn't like AOC, XIV, and Taste

I'm holding a birthday dinner but I still need to decide on XIV or Beso.

I have not been to either of them and wanted to hear some opinions on both restaurants before I made my decision.
