Looking for a romantic Friday night dinner for two

But Sara's takes an extended summer vacation in August every year - double-check to make sure they're open! I like Crepe Nanou for low-cost date nights, as well.

Vegan eating in NOLA

Domenica has tons of vegetarian options, and they will gladly accommodate a vegan diner - I've been there with a vegan who has gluten issues and her meal was as good as mine!

John Besh

I was at Domenica for the first time 2 weeks ago, and I'd give it the reverse ratio - it still has a "getting up to speed" feel, but the service was earnest and more successful than not; the food was well-described on the menu and well-prepared on the plate; the space is interesting (if not my favorite decor in the city); and the ability to slip into the decadent Roosevelt lobby in the afterglow a solid meal and a decent glass of wine is worth way more to me than what Domenica charges.

Xmas Eve/Xmas Day Reservations

Coquette makes a nice lunch option as well. But if you're staying downtown and want a whimsical way to spend an hour or so, go to the Ritz-Carlton and walk through their life-size gingerbread house. Yes, you can eat the gum drops off the walls! And then have a cocktail on the patio if the weather's nice.

Looking for good eats in new orleans( the non touristy kind of places please!)

Has Bluebird reopened? Sweet!

Chipotle-style Burritos in New Orleans area?

I was never a huge fan of Chipotle, but I think Taqueria Corona's burrito is comparable - you'll have to ask for some customization though, since they don't assemble it in front of you the way Chipotle does. I much prefer Juan's to TC, but their burritos are less Chipotle-esque.

Best place to host a cocktail party in New Orleans ?? Oct 24th

If you have the ability to travel, Cure has been known to close the back patio to the general public during regular hours (they open at 5) so that private parties can use the outdoor space.

Free snacks?

Rendez Vous (Uptown, not far from the Bulldog) will also let you bring in food from Big Fisherman or any of the other options within walking distance. And on Sundays, they have free Indian food - if you're on a serious budget, it's one of the best deals in town. Get a $2 Abita and eat all the chana masala you can stomach.

BYOB restaurants

Is SukoThai in the Marigny still BYO? I know they were applying for a variance so they could get a liquor license (there's some weird zoning glitch because they're in a residential building, but the restaurant was grandfathered in).

visiting in April need help with restos

+1 on Lilette over PG. If you had heard good things in the past about PG, you might want to try Bistro Daisy, which is where PG's original chef is now. I haven't been to BD, but I've always felt PG was overrated, both before and after the original chef's departure. But I looove Lilette.

I've had great luck with MiLa, and would definitely recommend it. I don't think Cafe Minh has much to recommend it - they make a decent lunch, but I wouldn't go out of my way to seek them out if I didn't work in that neighborhood.

Best French Fries

I haven't had them, but friends rave about the fries at Delachaise - they're fried in duck fat.

Sno Balls!

Hansen's has a satsuma flavor which is a sweet-tart revelation on a hot day. I also love half cream of chocolate, half cream of almond, but that's much heavier than the satsuma (or other citrus) flavor, so it depends on your mood.

Ithaca/Elmira Area NY Local Specialties?

I have good friends in Ithaca who love Just A Taste, a small plates/wine bar kind of place. I think JaT makes a point of featuring local ingredients. Also, make sure you sample wines from some of the Finger Lake vineyards!

Yes, another damned first timer with questions:

If you want something both truly local, and a little grown-up, I'd say go to Bacchanal in the Bywater on a Friday or Saturday night - it's a wine shop with a great back patio, and usually features a rotating cast of local chefs doing a super-cheap prix fixe cooked outdoors on weekend nights. You can buy a bottle, have them open it for you, and while the night away.

restaurant near any of the Capogiros

Alas! I haven't lived in PHL in years, but I have such fond memories of when Capogiro's 13th Street shop first opened. I hope they recover speedily!

Affordable restaurants for an 18yro and Dad

If you're willing to walk as far as Port of Call, it's just a few steps further into the Marigny (the next neighborhood over from the FQ). There are lots of options there too, including decent thai, the more upscale Marigny Brasserie, and a number of haunts along Frenchman street that are just decent in terms of food, but are perfectly situated if you want a quick meal in a less touristy, very music-focused location.

Brocato's, La Divina, Gelato Pazzo, or Sucre?

The salted caramel and the new malted buttermilk at CC are my current favorites. Creole cream cheese is an old standby of mine, but I find it varies in potency from batch to batch. The chocolate malt chip is excellent, too, especially if you ask them to add a dusting of malt powder on top. Mmm....I may have to head there right now!

Trip report (sorry, super long...I ate a lot!)

Definitely hit Creole Creamery if you have the chance - they have a couple rotating flavors that are worth multiple trips, including a salted caramel and a malted buttermilk that I can not stop eating! And, ditto on the disco fries - you definitely used to be able to get them at the Stirling Diner in Gillette with brown gravy and mozz.

Where to get a Sazerac

If you're willing to go to a less-well-traveled location, Cure at Freret and Upperline features artisanal and vintage cocktails. I think they use a rotating cast of "mixologists" behind the bar (so, for example, a 20th Century made on Thursday tasted better than the over-sweetened one I had on Saturday). But, they'll be able to give you the history and as many variations on the Sazerac as you can stomach. The drinks are a little expensive by New Orleans standards, but entirely reasonable if you're coming from any major metro area.

Casual, low-priced, great food near Sheraton?

Stanley's for breakfast or lunch, right on the corner of Jackson Square; EAT on Dumaine (I haven't been, but friends like it); WINO in the Warehouse district if she wants wine and snacks; if she's willing to explore a bit, I'd highly recommend Mimi's in the Marigny - the best value tapas I've had anyplace outside of Spain (in terms of taste to cost ratio - extremely delicious:pretty durn reasonable).

Wine/Cheese Shop Near Quarter

WINO does have cheese, as well as a small plates menu (hummus, charcuterie, etc.). If you're willing to take a streetcar ride, the Delachaise (in the Garden District on St. Charles, so right on the streetcar line) has a decent wine selection and a fabulous cheese plate.
