Cross canada adventure-first stop Saskatoon

Hi Rosetown, thanks for the suggestion. They arrived not to long ago in Saskatoon and are slowly making their way to Weczeria. Judging by the website, their menu looks fantastic. I'll be heading to Saskatoon in the summer and will certainly stop as the Burmese resturant you suggest. Never had Burmese food before. Thanks again.

Know anything for Winnipeg?

Cross canada adventure-first stop Saskatoon

Hi there, my good friends are driving across the country from Edmonton to Montreal. Their first overnight stop will be Saskatoon on Wednesday night. As a parting gift to them, I want to provide them with a list of great places to eat along the way. Chowhound foodies, can you recommend a place in Saskatoon where they can eat? Considering the other cities where they will be stopping, I'd like to do fine dining in Saskatoon and resaurant has to have a focus on local ingredients. Simply the best for my two friends.

Thanks foodies. Addresses would be greatly appreciated.

YO Edmontonians! Anyone try Pampas Brazilian Steakhouse...for LUNCH?

Sorry only been there for dinner and not nearly as good as Gaucho's in Calgary. Based on my over-priced dinner experience, I wouldn't go back there again for dinner or lunch.

Route 40 Soup Co Closed?

Yes they have been closed since the spring, but they still sell their soups at farmers markets. I heared that they were going to get into the ice-cream business. Hope that helps.

Edmonton RROTM - January - L2grill

There's something about eating at WEM that's a complete turnoff. I may have to skip this month's pick.

Has anyone seen The Tomato, the 2010 incarnation of Edmonton City Palate

Haven't see it out yet.

Caribbean Restaurant - Edmonton

Try Ms Vi's on Fort Road. It's not really a restaurant; it's a takeout spot. Order something and take it home and eat it.

New recommended restaurants in DT Edmonton?

Here are a few places
Madison Grill (located in the Union Bank Inn) Jasper Ave and 100 street. Lunch there is probably around $20 They do regional cuisine

The Hat: A new gastropub on Jasper Ave and about 103 street. They serve hamburgers and sandwiches. Best for Happy hour after work

Health Fare: A few fastfood joint that opened its second Edmonton location on Jasper ave and 103, just near the Hat, rice bowls, sandwiches, salads. Best probably for lunch

Hardware Grill: Jasper Ave and 97 Street. One of the best restaurants in the city, just opened for lunch in November. Regional cuisine, fine dinning, will run you about $20 i imagine for lunch. Reservations recommended.

Tzin: Wine bar on 104 street just off Jasper Ave. Only has about 6 tables. Small intimate. They have small appetizers. So you'll have to order a few to fill yourself.

Those are the new downtown offerings that I can think of, at least ones that are centrally located. Good luck.

Edmonton RROTM - December - Red Star Pub

They havent' served the chicken and salsa verde since the summer. Whomever wrote that article should have mentioned that she visited Red Star in July not December.

Edmonton RROTM - December - Red Star Pub

I too am very glad that you picked Red Star. They serve up some wonderful seaonsal sharing dishes and appetizers. I've tried the chicken meatballs, meat and cheese platter (amazing pickled zuchinni), pasta pesto dish and chicken with salsa verde.

However I have a huge complaint and it's bad enough to spoil your experience. The service is horrible. I've been there right at 5 when they open with only a couple of tables and we've had to wait almost 20 minutes for the waitress to even approach our table. This hasn't happened once. It's happened pretty much everytime. We've stopped going there as a result.

In short great food but be warned the bad service will ruin your appetite.

Best Vancouver restaurants -- what's to be discovered?

Westworld magazine posted its list of Vancouver's best restaurants. http://www.ama.ab.ca/westworld/index.php?/articles/best_places_to_eat_in_vancouver
They've included the ones that we all know Vij's, Salt, Cibo, Uva, Nuba and the likes, but I feel like their list is a litlle weak. These ones get so much attention already and I've heard about them before. I'm curious to know about some unknown places that are a bit off the beaten path. I'm heading to Vancouver in two weeks and want to find some great Korean and perhaps Turkish restaurants. Maybe Chow users can help me again.

Incidendentally, there seems to be naming trend in Vancouver. All the great restaurants are one word. Is that true?

Where to eat in Regina, Saskatchewan

Well everyone I'm here and one of my first stops was LaBodega. I order a ceasar salad and steak frites. There was nothing special about the salad but the streak frites was delicious. The steak was done in brandy reduction. The thick, sweet, tasty sauce was a nice surprise under the fries. Frites were a bit salty but the steak made up for it.

Next food stop was a Greek restaurant on Scarth street. The Greek salad was very disapointing. I think the vegetables had been sitting in the dressing all day. I judge a Greek restaurant by its salad. In my opinion, if it can't serve a basic salad, then there's no hope for the rest of the menu. Luckily, I only ordered a rib appetizer. Ribs were OK but nothing special.

I've got two more days so I hope to try out Wascana and The Abbey.

Where to eat in Regina, Saskatchewan

Hey guys, you've always come through for me, but this is a hard one. I'm looking for a great independent restaurant in Regina where I can entertain business clients. I'm heading to Regina in late October and want to know about the best restaurants in town that aren't chains. I can eat at The Keg anywhere in Western Canada, so why go to Regina and dine there.

Where can I go for dinner? Lunch and breakfast? I prefer if you mentioned something in downtown Regina since I don't wnat to taxi all across the city. Help!

Hotel Bar with best ambiance in Vancouver

No trip to Uva is complete without trying the bone marrow salad. It's a famous dish created by the chef at St. John's restaurant in London. I didn't know that anyone across the pond was making it so it was a bonus. I'll be back again for the salad the next time I'm in Vancouver.

Hotel Bar with best ambiance in Vancouver

Just got back from a week vacation in Vancouver and we used the Vancouver guide list as our go-to guide. Bacchus is worth checking out, but it's a much older crowd. I'd say if you are 40 and over, you might enjoy it.

Somene mentioned Uva, it's way too trendy for what you might be looking for. Check out their website.

Cheap meals in Banff or Lake Louise?

Totally agree about the Outpost. I haven't eaten there for about 10 years but it's your basic pub grub cooked by some great chefs.

Nice, Big, Meaty Dinner... But... (Calgary)

I heared it's about $12 to $15 dollars per person depending on how many meats you select and it's unlimited. They just come around to your table and slice away. It sounds like the place for meat lovers.

Nice, Big, Meaty Dinner... But... (Calgary)

I'm from Edmonton and I think I've been to Mercato before. I recall more pasta items on the menu, not meat. Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong place?

Nice, Big, Meaty Dinner... But... (Calgary)

Although, I've never been there I was going to suggest Gaucho resturant. Heared so many good things about the restaurant. Looks like someone below recommended it too. Just came across an audio interview with the owner on AMA's site of all places. Let me know how it is.

Brazilian Restaurant - Calgary

Does anyone one of any Brazilian restaurants in Edmonton or Calgary? I recently learned about Gaucho in Calgary but don't know anyone who has been there. I was reading this story about Brazil and clicked on the audio. To my surprise, it was a interview with the owner of Gaucho. I live in Edmonton are there any Edmonton restaurants that specialize in Brazlian cuisine?
