Oil or Butter for Fried Eggs?

Best is the amazing "pork oil" aka fresh lard I buy from Latino or International markets with good butcher sections. Stays fresh for a couple of months and makes EVERYTHING that fits in a sauté pan taste better. Fresh eggs over easy with some nice toast are a revelation.

Recommendations for Austin to Philadelphia road trip

Check out Broadway Brewhouse/Mojo Grill at 1901 Broadway In Nashville, TN for cheap, fresh, made-from scratch Cajun/Caribbean/Tex-Mex food, sandwiches, salads, grilled fish, etc. It is about 1 mile from the I-40 Broadway exit. This location is their original (of 4 around the city) and is hugely popular with the Music Row industry crowd. Neil Young ate there every day when he was in Nashville recording his last album and it is actually a likely place to spot celebrities if you are into that kind of thing. Definitely more locals than tourists and really awesome food. Plus it is locally owned. Have a safe trip!

Good cheap local cuisine or ethnic in Louisville on Sun, breakfast/brunch Monday???

Escorting a gaggle of 17-18 year old gentlemen from Nashville to Louisville for rapper Brother Ali @ Uncle Pleasant's on Sun the 15th. Show starts at 7, where can I find a good solo meal around 6:30? Zanzabar is ( I think) near the venue, but has mixed reviews. Staying at the downtown Hyatt and will grab a taxi so I can have a little wine, so I'm open to anywhere in-between downtown and the club. Seems like many restaurants are closed on Sundays.

Would love to take the guys somewhere fun for a late breakfast if anyone has an idea. "Toast" has fans on several other foodie boards. These are well-traveled kids who would rather have an awesome diner meal than a touristy experience. That said, we are going to stop by Cave City en route home to Nashville, so the right kind of kitsch would be entertaining.

Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka

Oh my is this stuff delicious! Ran to the liquor store this am and am trying it on ice right now with fresh squeezed lemonade and a splash of spring water. It DOES taste just like sweet tea with lemon in this way-no alcohol burn at all. Dangerous indeed. Does anyone know if it is loaded with calories? Frugal MacDoogal liquors in Nashville has Peach Tea, Mint Tea and Lemon Tea varieties, but guys who work there thought those had off-putting "fake" flavors.

Olive and Cream Cheese Sandwiches a Baltimore Only Treat?

Now extinct Nashville sandwich shops like Candyland and Vandyland always had cream cheese and olive sandwiches on the menu. My 92 year old great-aunt still loves them.

Eating in Nashville

My favorite mexican place hands down is Monterrey. It is about a 10-15 minute drive from downtown at the corner of Murfreesboro and Bell Rd. It is a small place in a strip mall, but the food is to die for. Don't miss the handmade tamales. Everything is from scratch and the same family has owned and run it for at least the past 20 years. Because it is not inside the city, we wind up at La Hacienda more often. That is a perfectly acceptable second choice.

I have heard the latest Ethiopian restaurant to open in the cinder block building on Thompson Lane just west of Nolensville Road is the best so far. Haven't tried it myself, though.

Kien Giang (kee-in yang) has the best Vietmanese and is about 5 minutes from downtown, also in a shopping center.

Eating in Nashville

Check out the Broadway Brewhouse/Mojo Grill downtown on Broadway (btw 3rd & 4th) or the mid-town location at 19th and Broadway. The midtown location is a great place to rub elbows with local musicians and music-biz types. Neil Young gave it a shout out on the last album he recorded in Nashville. He ate there every day he was in town. Great wings, jerk chicken, cajun and southwestern grub...most any beer you can think of available on tap or in a bottle. Awesome inexpensive food, locally owned and great laid-back vibe.
