Do not take the olive salad. They will not let you on board with it. They say it too much liquid..????

MY TRIP TO THE " BIG EASY" 8-14 TO 8-18 - 2009 ( very long)

Your right it was d.b.a. Maybe I will give Frenchman St another chance on the next trip. It seemed to be a younger type vibe that saturday night.

MY TRIP TO THE " BIG EASY" 8-14 TO 8-18 - 2009 ( very long)

Sorry I took so long to get this too you guys and gals. As you all know the week after any vacation sucks!! Got to the Hilton next to the Riverwalk on Friday. ( great room!!! What's with the very dirty water being pumped from the boats back into the river???) Un-packed and went straight to Drago's. Wow, way to much breading and not enough oysters. Also very salty!! A little expensive too for a half dozen. So my gal and I went shopping on the riverwalk.
I creep away to buy her a dress for Christmas and got another half dozen oysters from the seafood place at the riverwalk ( I want to call it the "crabby shack" but i dont think that's it. SORRY..) Now those are oysters!! Big and fresh! and the price was right!!

We had 8p.m. dinner reservations at Cochon. The place was packed and we blew past the line at the door to our table. ( To the shocking eyes of some people... lol. They are called reservations for a reason.) OMG the food was outstanding!! I was still a little full from the oysters so I went for the fried boudin, the spicy grilled pork ribs, cucumbers and herbs in vinegar, and last but not least a side of the mac-n-cheese casserole. The service was good. The bill was not that bad either. Got out for less than 60 bucks!!

Saturday was lunch at LUKE. Very impressed with everthing there. I got the Shrimp and Grits and my girl got a half order of the Fried Chicken and waffles ( yes, the waiter was shocked too.. Even he didnt know you could do that.) I must say the BEST meal I had the whole trip!
Sooooooo good!!! Also had my first Bloody Mary there too. O.K. after walking off (we thought??) all that food on Bourbon st, we had dinner at NOLA saturday Night. Third foor table. I got the fried duck liver w/ greens and onions, and a crab salad with beets. Both were good. Just enough food for me at that time. My girl just got a salad. The restaurant was very busy so in return it was very noisy. ( for my taste..) After dinner we walk to Frenchmen St to go to the D.O.A. Now the info I got for the place and the street for that matter was I think misguided. Seems like they could use some more street lights. Anyway, I had to pay a 10 buck cover charge for the two of us. When we left a 11:30 p.m. ( we got there at 10) the band had not even showed up yet.? So we went back down to Bourbon St. and jammed to 4 a.m.

Now after waking up from the party called Bourbon St. at 10 a.m. on Sunday needless to say we were hungry. We first went to Casino across the street. My gal said they have a great Sunday Breakfast. They wanted 36 bucks per person!!!??? Take a guess what we did? That's right walked right out of there and went to Mother's down the street. I know about the history of this place but, I must say that is was the WORST food of the trip!!! I got a Catfish po-boy (why... dont know..) with a side of COLD fries. I asked the lady at the counter for a side of gravy for my fries. She told me they dont serve it ( I didnt realize they call it Debris till after I got home to Cleveland) I think my girl had smoked sausage grits and toast and some o.j.
40 BUCKS!!!!! Sooooooooo disappointed!!! we should have stayed at the casino! I surprised my girl with tickets to the House of Blues Sunday night but before the show we went to dinner at Montrel's (they were passing out 15% off dinners coupons the day before) The food was outstanding!! First off they had my favorite thing this world- Crawfish in the shell. I didnt think I would find them but im glad I did. So good!!! The juice from the broth was spicy! I freaked my girl out when I started to ' suck the head'!! After the 2lbs of crawfish I ordered the red beans and rice with the hot sausage and my girl got the Panee Pork Chop. all was very good!!
Monday we had lunch at Commander's Palace at 12:30 p.m. It was raining on Sunday and Monday but when we left the hotel the sun was out. By the time we got off the street car it was a down-pour!! We had no umbrella so by the time we got to Commander's we were both soaked! We get to the door and the first thing I see is NO SHORTS!!!! Now I did have a pair of pants just for Commander's at the hotel room but didnt put them on. ( brain fart!! I quess.) So I ask the guy where can I buy a pair of pants at? He said there were some retro stores on Magazine st. They give us a umbrella and we walk to Magazine St. ( raining even harder now!!!!!) I shove my girl into Starbucks and went down to Neophobia and got a pair of nice pants ( THANKS, Amanda and Vic!!!) By the time I get back to Starbucks the rain is up to my lower calf ( NO JOKE!!) So needless to say my pants are now wet! O.K. after we both dry off in the bathroom, we get to our table. We were told by some people that we got the BEST table in the whole room. (the booth at the back of the room) We start of with the 25 cent Martini's I got one , my girl ordered the max of three! Then we got a small app of Veal tenderloin with plum sauce that we didnt even order. Very good!! The attention to detail was the best part of the meal. I got the three meal for one price deal. Salad and Crab soup, steak over something and bread pudding with whiskey sauce that was to die for!!!!! ( well the garlic bread was too...) I must say it takes alot to please my girl and she said that Commander's was the BEST!!!
We leave Tuseday morning, but first I go to Central Grocery ( oh by the way, they close at 5 pm on Saturday And dont re-open till Tuesday's at 9 a.m.) Pick up a couple of muff's to take home and some olive salad ( 2 jars) I had both in my backpack to take on the plane. Get to the airport and they would let me on with the Olive salad!!! Are you kidding me???? They said it had to much liquid in the jars. I had to find a box ,wrap them up tight and check the box. A EXTRA 15 bucks for olives! All in all we had a blast! That was the first time in the NOLA for my GF. ( my second!!) We will be back!!!!!!!!!! Thanks CW for the tips!!

Can you eat well and enjoy NOLA on a 100 dollars a day budget??

I have diabetes so I wont be drinking..( that much..) And my GF is a two drink max girl so I would say that it will be for food.
