Spirits from Israel

You are better off buying nice wines like Yatir or Dalton than spirits.

Calvados

I'm looking for a particular calvados. It was amazing. My notes say 'reflets de France, pays d'auge.' I don't know much about calvados or French. Where oh where can I find it again? Thanks!

Strasbourg - best neighborhood for kosher foodie?

I think the main web site for information about kosher food in France is http://www.123cacher.com

Indian Food in Basel

Can anyone recommend an Indian restaurant in Basel? It doesn't have to be chow-worthy, just decent is fine!

I've had no luck finding it in NYC. I did give up looking a year ago.

Tebit - a new (ancient) approach to cholent

I made it. It is great, especially considering how simple the preparation is. It forms a layer of burnt on rice at the bottom. Since i made it on the stove top, it was a bit of a pain to clean and I'd recommend using a plastic cholent liner. Although, on second thought, can that bottom layer, perhaps if one makes it in a pan where it is ok to scrape the bottom, become 'crispy rice?'

pesach in Israel

Adding on to this old thread - I know of tons of places in Jerusalem that are kosher for Pesach. What about Tel Aviv?

Dining in Key West

I like sarabeths's and for a quick cheap breakfast or lunch go to Frenchie's.

Is there a decent store bought or packaged honey cake?

If you are in Manhattan, I like the honey cake at the Kosher Marketplace on the uws

Best of the UWS, 2014 Edition

How has nobody mentioned Dhaba Deli on Columbus and 107th? No atmosphere at all (icky bathroom, loud Indian TV, a couple of shared tables), but the best veggie Indian food I've ever had. And it is cheap.

Nice Vegetarian or Kosher Restaurant Mid Town

Kudos to Mendy's

Reasonable people can disagree - not saying it is extraordinary, just pretty good. With Shalom Bombay gone, it is a fairly valuable option if you are in Midtown East and don't want to walk past 5th Avenue or spend a lot of $.

Kudos to Mendy's

In a bowl, slices of beef, with some carrots and celery, lots of sauce, and mashed potatoes. Probably not that authentic, but only around $14 and tasty.

Shalom Bombay

Is their midtown location closed? It was dark and looked like it was under construction yesterday.

Kudos to Mendy's

I'm generally not a huge fan of Mendy's, but want to note my approval of their goulash. I was talking about my Hungarian ancestors last night and am working near Grand Central today. Their GCT food court shop's menu is mostly sandwiches and soups, so the goulash is easily missed but it caught my eye. I wouldn't say it is worth a special trip but if you are in the neighborhood you could do far, far worse.

Kosher Aperol

So the plot thickens... Luxardo is on the CRC list as kosher only if marked as so on the bottle, and the bottles I have found have to hashgacha.

Kosher Aperol

Hi - since I trip to Venice I've been obsessed with making my own 'Spritz' cocktails at home. Does anyone have tips on places to buy kosher Campari or Aperol? I've had trouble - tried lots of liquor stores in Brooklyn and so on... thanks!
