Provincetown Dead of Winter...help me decide...

How i LOVE Jimmy's Hideaway! I took my mom and 2 aunts, all these ladies over 80 years old, and Jimmy and Rafe fussed over them like they were royalty. And the food was just as pleasant as the experience. I had a creamy, fluffy, ethereal polenta I won't soon forget.

Special dinner date for two in Danbury area...

Rraci in Brewster would work. I was there Christmas Eve and it is romantic without being too stuffy. Nicer than your typical Italian place.

jb"s bbq in brewster,ny

I was a fan but my last few visits have left me feeling otherwise. I was just there two nights ago and was disappointed. the ribs were soooo salty and too fatty. the brisket was flat and dull. the cornbread was dry and the garlic mashed potatoes had no trace of garlic. i've had the mac & cheese side in the past and it's really bad.....pasty and sweet????

i was never a fan of their sides but i thought their meats were good. now i feel differently.

I need recs for good BBQ along the length of CT-15 from I-84 to NY

If they do the 84 to 684 thing, JBs Barbeque in Brewster is right off Exit 1, 84W between Danbury & Brewster. BBQ is good, sides are just okay. super casual.

Name Cheap But Good Eateries...

The taco trucks along the water/Long Wharf Rd in New Haven.
Pho Vietnam in Danbury (but i've only had the pho & spring rolls)

I want some vietnamese food in Westchester

I tried it last winter. sadly, no, not even close.

PB Boulangerie in Wellfleet

I'd go to Jimmy's Hideaway in Ptown instead.

I want some vietnamese food in Westchester

I work in White Plains and wish there were some Vietnamese restaurants around. Luckily, I live in Danbury, so I can get my fix at Pho Vietnam, but it makes no sense that there isn't a single Vietnamese restaurant in all of Westchester County. I'm always wanting a bowl of pho at lunch in the winter. Maybe the next time I am in Pho Vietnam, I will let the nice owner man know of a goldmine just waiting for him to expand into.

BTW, Pho Vietnam was recently renovated and is a lot easier on the eyes now.

Jimmy's Hideaway in P Town

I'm glad you had a good experience. I've posted glowing reviews over the summer as well.

Toronto CHound looking for fried whole belly clams in the Cape

I too prefer Arnold's over Sir Crickets for clams. But i prefer Sir Crickets over Arnolds for fried scallops lol--Sir Crickets scallops are just so much sweeter than all the local competition. I haven't been to Sesuit Cafe in a looooong time so i can't throw them into my comparative mix.

Dinner on the cape for (celebratory) event.

I have enjoyed the Impudent Oyster in Chatham but i don't spend much time there so I can't help you further. Hopefully other CHers will chime in with more recs.

Dinner on the cape for (celebratory) event.

The Cape is a big place. Please tell us the town or the area and then it will be easier to suggest something.

Are the New Haven taco trucks there on Sundays?

Thank you! I thought they might opt out on Sunday for religious reasons.

Are the New Haven taco trucks there on Sundays?

I'm planning a trip to IKEA and was hoping to get some good cheap eats. If they aren't there, I want to make other plans. Anyone???---It's a longshot, but I thought I'd ask.

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

Well the newly renovated Pho Vietnam has reopened in Danbury with a much needed facelift. While it is certainly an improvement over the old decor,it seems rather incongruent with a vietnamese restaurant--looks like a small, formal wedding reception hall now. Oh well, food is still great and it's a little easier to recommend it to others. Before, the run down appearance always made me hesitant. I didn't mind it for myself, but as a reco, I always hesitated.

Ribs in the Hudson Valley

Big Ws ribs were waaaaay too smoky for me. I loved the chicken with all that smoke flavor but not the ribs. I prefer my ribs a lot less dry/smoky and a touch moister/sweeter. I like the ribs at JBs bbq in Brewster better.

Best place for fresh lobster take-out in Lower Cape Cod?

Lay it on me, hounds--best dining on Outer Cape

Jimmy's Hideaway in Ptown was the last meal i had on the Outer Cape that i felt was truly worth the money.

PB Boulangerie in Wellfleet

This sounds like they have bitten off more baguette than they can chew. If they had just stuck to the bakery, all would be fine (well, once they got that whole server/cashier backlog thing worked out, lol).

Stanziato's - Great pizza - Danbury, CT

Tuscanero's on Mill Plain Road has the worst looking pizza i've seen in a long time. i can't say worst tasting because i didn't dare eat it. I walked in, looked through the glass case and walked right back out. It looked like food court or airport terminal pizza.

Stewart's Seafood Restaurant Eastham? comments?

i wouldn;t consider it jumping the line. i actually like the tradition of waiting in the line (as i've said it moves quickly) then sitting & waiting in arnolds. i have some raw bar & a glass of wine & look at the visitors. i've actually done the phone-in routine all of one time. no one seemed to care. it's an option for anyone who cares to exercise it.

Stewart's Seafood Restaurant Eastham? comments?

Regarding the line at Arnolds, two things: 1) the line moves faster than you think it will and 2) if you really don't want to wait in it, pick up a takeout menu and call your order in. Show up at the appointed time and take your food to a table and eat it. it's not exactly kosher but it works great, saves lots of waiting time

Thanks for the detailed review of Stewarts but i won't be trying it, i've yet to have a good meal or a good experience in that location regardless of ownership.

BTW--oysters in the summer are gonna be tiny. it's not the time to order them.

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

Just read on Yelp that Pho Vietnam was closed for renovations not vacation. Heaven knows it needed it but i will miss the unfinished plywood counter and rundown decor. I"m not sure why but i think i will. Hopefully they are upgrading the bathroom situation too. That's really bad.

Best Burger FOUND on Cape Cod! (Great chowder, too!!!)

I really enjoy the burgers at the Lost Dog in Orleans.

New in White Plains: Westchester Burger Co

I see the sign is up for this new establishment on Westchester Ave former home of Finn McCools and the short-lived Hito Asian Bistro. Anyone know anything about it?

I had the BEST "Lobster Mac-n-cheese" in RI at the 'Rue'

cheese and seafood together is one big no-no in my culinary preferences. that said, it sounds like Rue did it as right as it can be done (including the fruit tart which i would not have wanted cold--the flavors would be supressed--maybe chilled at most). I'm glad you had a great overall experience. I've added it to my Providence list.

Cape Cod lobster roll with no mayo?

"beaches???"............*flees*

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

Yes, I am aware of the heritage behind the name, the English translation however, sounds less than appetizing. Hopefully most grown-ups will get past the initial giggles and give it a try. The Bombay Diner was very good.

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

Yes, I drove by it the other day and the sign was up indicating new ownership and a new name. Mysore is certainly an unfortunate choice of name for a restaurant.

Cape Cod lobster roll with no mayo?

I'm glad you liked the hot lobster roll. The onion rings are definitely not the thick cut, breaded/battered norm that usually accompany a burger say. They are thinner cut, lighter & sweeter and make a nice foil to all the other heavy fried seafood served.
