Last night i went to Rubs iwth my daughter and mom. I consider myself to be well versed in southern smoked food. first, the owners were very nice, friendly and helpful. the place has beautiful new bathrooms. everything was spotless. we had the beef ribs and long pork ribs (not baby back). the beef ribs (2) were incredibly meaty with a great smoked flavor. real deal smoked. the pork was more juicy and terrific. the prk was more tender - which is expected. both plates had a huge quantity of food - sharing isa good idea. finally, some real bbq in montreal. the sides we had were beans, fries, sweet pot fries and slaw. the beans were not my sort of thing, but the fries and slaw were great. on the table was a bbq sauce(spicy) and a mayo dressing as well. the mayo one was just amazing. chipotle honey mayo - you get this when you order a grilled chicken sandwich at Chick Fil A. overall, i would give it a way above average and i am excited to go back. the bill was expensive, but i consider the seats outside and the nice service to make it worhtwhile. frankly, money is no object to get true smoked food in montreal. i dont mind paying a little more for competancy. i strongly recommend and plan to return soon. |

Grumman 78 Food Court @ Faubourg I had the pork and lamb tacos this week. Delicious! DON'T order the meatball nachos to go! They don't travel very well. Meatballs good but chips in the poubelle |

I hear Oro Toro has closed...and PF Changs is moving in? I loved Oro and hope this is false. They are in the Jockeys area at Jean talon and decarie. I have heard this PFChang rumor for awhile. Any truth to this? |

Greasy Spoon (how one should follow his intuition, or pay the price) Why were you "startled" about her picking up your "art" book? was it a rare 1st with a dust jacket? did she rip out a page or something? with some smooth dialogue maybe you could have hit it off and gotten her number. i have been to that restaurant. the poutine starter was nice and flavorful. the hot chicken was average. i found it was the same scene as Mbrgr and decided once was enough. i like the food better on notre dame at Liverpool H. harry |

Five Guys Burgers - Coming to Montreal ! Definetely more accessible than Vaudreuil. i totally agree. its one poorly maintained bridge or another ;) harry |

Five Guys Burgers - Coming to Montreal ! it did not say... but i understood that jul 24th was their objective. great news about the south shore location too. harry |

Five Guys Burgers - Coming to Montreal ! I drove through Valleyfield yesterday and its in one of those stripmalls south of there the Transcanada runs. Its in the one with the Scores and Dagwoods. its a shocking sight. i just cannot see it catching-on there. they should have opened in DDO. harry |

Five Guys Burgers - Coming to Montreal ! i am not surprised. i also prefer them to be a little pink in the middle. however, i am sure their insurance company is worried about another Jack In Box disaster. H |

I like the rib steak at Schwartz's very much. Queue is the best because its dry-aged. i like that - kindof unusual for Montreal. Here are some enjoyable and good steaks: -flank steak frites at The Taverne on Monkland and L'Avenue on Mt Royal H |

In NDG - the chinese/szechuan (sorry for my spelling) restaurant at the corner of Decarie and Monkland seems to be RIP. H |

Five Guys Burgers - Coming to Montreal ! funny, i tried it first in Georgetown as well ! its too bad that its so far from the west-end. this location choice makes no sense at all. the west-island should have better brand recognition. i think i better watch my use of the term "expensive" around here. i was just implying it should be around twice the price of a mcD's trio. my last 5 guys burger/fry/drink was about $9.50 in charlotte. Five Guys Burgers - Coming to Montreal ! its fast food right? you wait in line. its given to you in a paper bag. i consider cheap to be burger king for a $6 trio. 5 guys should come in at $10-11 for a similar burger, fry and a drink. so its twice the price. much better quality. is it expensive? no. however its likely going to be twice the cost of their competition like mcD's and lafleurs. |

Five Guys Burgers - Coming to Montreal ! Its both expensive and very good. you will have to go to really experience it. huge burgers. very fresh. very good fries. its a good concept - very fresh. you wont leave the place thinking that they have not tried to make a great burger. definitely worth trying out. i wonder if they will have a poutine on the menu. that's going to be their biggest issue. h |

Five Guys Burgers - Coming to Montreal ! I saw a guy in the NDG area wearing the red five guys burgers shirt and he said that they are opening a restaurant in Vaudreuil later in July 2010. Plans for another in Old Montreal in 2010. Great news. Bad for my back-fat-folds i guess. Now if only In N Out burger would venture north my life would be complete. |
