11 Madison Park - vegetarian?
This meal is all about making a special fuss. You should definitely tell them in advance. That way they can prepared the best "match" to the omnivore dishes.
Vegetarian-friendly formal dinner
Where can a fearless but desiring vegetarian and omnivore have a scandalously decadent dinner in Portland? It should be the kind of place where jeans are absolutely inappropriate and the food dazzles in taste and plating. Money is no object, location doesn't matter, and a completely vegetarian restaurant is not preferred. I’m currently looking at Nostrana and Andina but yearn for something fancier… where can I find the best?
Vegetarian Meats from May Wah!
The pre-flavored/spiced meats at May Wah taste cheap to me; I’ve always found the “chicken” products to be the least invasive flavors when cooking western style dishes.
Chicken Legs

With their fabulous stringy soy body wrapped in a yuba skin and very little flavor, these pair well with bold sauces like smoky BBQ and spicy buffalo sauce/blue cheese. These chicken legs are also the base for one of my favorite vegan snacks, the Southern Friend Drumsticks at Foodswings.
Spiced Chicken Legs

A softer textured “meat” wrapped in yuba with a sugar cane “bone,” this one lends its self to savory dishes like Indian curries and Trinidad stew.
Chicken Nuggets

Another stringy soy base, these flat nuggets have an oily fried skin that is excellent in stir fry.
Citrus Spare Ribs

This is one my “lazy dinners,” tossed in a pan with veggies and some water, it makes a quick Chinese style Orange Beef that actually tastes labored. The “beef” is dry and dense with a pleasant toothsome quality.
Vegetarian Bacon

There is no such thing as good vegetarian bacon, but if I must have something resembling it, then May Wah is the ONLY one I would consider. I cook it in lots of oil/butter with a sprinkle of liquid smoke and maybe some maple syrup.

Visiting from SF
Ha, we’re totally 'Even Steve'... the lasagna is my least favorite. But I love the Cauliflower Samosas and White Corn Tamales.
I've actually been to Cafe Gratitude (the Mission District one)... and while I think it is too late for change you mind about PFW, NY raw food is much more delicious and artful.

Hope you enjoy your trip out here!
Devi is good, but it is just (expensive) Indian food, nothing special or unique about it. I also went to Cafe Boulud recently and was terribly disappointed, I thought the atmosphere was stuffy and the (vegetarian) food was nothing I couldn't make for myself.
For something a little more challenging that you "can't experience in SF" and I would try Pure Food and Wine. It is all vegan and raw, but all vegetarians and non-veggies I've taken there loved it.
Another place I would recommend is Via Della Pace, it is a cozy Italian restaurant in the East Village with savory meat and vegetarian dishes. They always have a great seasonal Risotto dish and my friends swear by whatever the seafood special of the day is. The service is attentive and relaxed; it is a great place to sit and really enjoy your meal and your vacation without blowing your budget.

Does anyone know of any good vegan restaurants in Brooklyn?
There are some great places in Fort Green: Red Bamboo (almost 100% vegan), Rice (lots of options) both on Dekalb.
