Help! Input wanted!

I'd also add Despana. You can buy cheese, jamon, olives, boquerones, etc and a baguette. That plus a bottle or 2 of Spanish wine (they have a wine store next door) and you're set!

NYC first visit (kind of) - where to eat to feel like you're in NY!

I'd add Ippudo to the ramen section and remove Otto from pizza (it's bad).
For pizza I'd add Motorino and/or Keste (though I prefer Motorino)

Gotham and Ai Fiori are boring. I'd replace with Gramercy Tavern.

Brunch or breakfast I'd add Vic's. It's my new favorite restaurant. I've been 5 times now (both brunch and dinner) and have not left disappointed even once!

Bakery - I'd add Maman or Levain for their cookies.

Cheese - definitely Murray's.

I might skip tacos/mexican all together. It's just not awesome here in Manhattan.

Chocolate - add Kee's.

Food and Drink shopping - Add Chelsea market.

Whole fish per pound? Milos, Avra, Thalassa etc.

Taverna Kyclades is probably your best bet.

A restaurant shouldn't surprise you. You can ask the MP of the fish. If they give you a price/pound, you should ask how many pounds the fish are. Unless my fish were covered in gold, I wouldn't pay $100 for it.

best special occassion restaurant for this Friday

Since you're in BK, you should post on the outer boroughs, but St. Anselm would be a great choice. I love it there. No reservations so go early (6pm).

Untamed Sandwiches?

I've been 2x - tried the general zapata (extra jalapenos) and the hot goldie. Both were tasty. I can't speak to the rest of the menu but I'd go back. Solid sandwiches and kind staff.

Vic's in NoHo

I went for brunch recently and it was awesome. We got some chicken salad and a poached egg dish with grits. Both were super tasty.

I'm excited to go back for dinner one of these days.

First date - with restrictions

Yes, but isn't risotto made with cheese? There is a dairy allergy, too.

Siggy's would though it's not romantic. What about peace food? Or Westville?

Where are the good Japanese hot pots at?

Shabu Tatsu is one of my favorite spots. They take reservations for 4+ (make one if you can). They fill up early and quickly for both lunch (weekends) and dinner (all days).

Where to find the best crispy charred brussel sprouts

I was just there and had them - they're tasty but they are not crispy (or hot).

I just saw that Ushiwakamaru closed - it's a sad day!

best ny style eggroll

Not in Midtown, but the eggroll from Nom Wah Tea Parlor in Chinatown is the best around.

PLEASE CRITIQUE MY UPCOMING FEB TRIP TO NYC

Brunch at the NoMad is pretty unreal. I'd personally recommend it over Maialino even though both are good. I'd hit Maialino for lunch on Monday instead.

NoMad - lunch or dinner?

I agree with Ellenost that both are excellent but hard to compare due to the nature of it (sandwich v. plated dish) and price.

If price is not an issue, the chicken for 2 is excellent. The brunch sandwich is great, but it's still a sandwich. I also haven't had the chicken burger.

Buvette

I haven't been because the few times I've tried for brunch on the weekend, it's been 1.5 hour wait...at 11:45 am.

What's the wait for dinner like? Can anyone weigh in on that?

I love Taim more than anything in the world but I have been to Balaboosta 3x and I just don't think it's good.

Hundred Acres is nothing more than mediocre.

Try Cafe Gitane, the Dutch, Parm, Rubirosa, Taim, Despana, Cafe Habana, the Smile (Noho), Prune (near Soho) etc. for a much better brunch.

Pete Wells's Top Ten NYC Ramen

also, per Ziggy's suggestion: Bassanova's Green Curry Ramen - it's on Mott just south of Canal...and it's delicious.

Help Me To Decide Where to Eat on Xmas Eve

Maialino is the best (by far) of your options in my opinion. You are going to get destroyed by people here for holding 5 reservations for Christmas Eve so I would advise you to cancel what you do not plan to use quickly.

Lively birthday dinner

I've very much enjoyed my two meals there - get the beet salad. The burger is great too!

Also, call the NoMad. I've called each time I didn't see what I wanted on OT and asked to be put on the wait list. At least a few of those times they had the exact time I wanted and put me in the book. They openly stated, "We don't put all of our tables on OpenTable."

Please review my restaurant choices for NYC trip.

I love Rubirosa. I agree with rrems - if one hasn't tried the pizza, one should not judge. I don't think they're trying to be authentic in any sense. It's just good. Great vodka pizza and meatballs. The mains are, in fact, "nothing special."

Which restaurant have you eaten at the most?

I don't see all that many people spelling it wrong but so so many people pronounce it wrong - even Bobby Flay! It kills me.

It's not pronounced like battle or cattle, which is how many say it. It's chi-powt-lay. Not chi-powt-ill. Drives me insane.

NY chowhound visiting Austin

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions! I had such a good time and ate well at every single meal.

We did Hopdaddy's for dinner Wednesday evening and I loved it.

Thursday was an all day Thanksgiving feast but I did get to experience Buc-ee's. We definitely don't have anything quite like that in NYC.

Friday we had tacos. I believe the place was called La Tradicion. Great tacos al pastor and watermelon water. Dinner was at Salt Lick - I thought it was great - food, atmosphere, everything.

Saturday I was only in Austin for one meal - we went to Hoover's. I had my first queso experience and overall loved the food and atmosphere.

After all the great suggestions, I regret not having more time to dine. I guess I'll just have to come back soon.

Thanks for the reply cpencis. I have no dietary restrictions. I'll be staying in the Northeast part of the city with a friend but I will have access to a car and will travel (quite far) for good food.

Thanks for the other suggestions chrisdds98 and Rptrane- I've added them to my list!

NY chowhound visiting Austin

Hi everyone!

I'm coming to visit Austin this week (Wednesday-Saturday eve). Thanksgiving is taken care of, but I have no plans for other meals.

I've only been to Austin once and it was probably about 4 years ago. I amazingly got to try Franklin BBQ before it was what it is today and it was excellent. As much as I'd like to go back, I will not be waiting on a multi-hour line to try it again.

I'm looking for moderately priced (under $30 entrees) lunches and dinners. Ideally I'd love to eat at local spots and holes in the wall. I am aware of the high end spots like Uchi and I'd love to try it, but I won't be too upset if it doesn't work out - we have pretty good sushi here in NYC.

I'd so much appreciate your suggestions (and happily return the favor for anyone visitng NYC)! Thank you in advance!

Where can I still find great "dairy" babka, rugelach, and cheese danish?

I agree with was_bk that Breads babka is pretty stellar.

Eating our faces off, any suggestions?

I'd neg num pang (personally), second ippudo, replace marta with motorino (even though I liked Marta a lot, Motorino still wins and will be cheaper).

I'd add Taim for a fantastic falafel, Katz's for a pastrami sandwich, Russ and Daughters for a bit of lox.

Coasts' Levain suggestion also is hard to beat. Best cookies ever.
