suggestions for a sky's-the-limit eating adventure tomorrow

(we did the 11-course menu at eleven madison park. yep.)

Restaurants that serve FROG. Know of any?

i've been doing a bunch of research on this -- people were eating froggies in asia as early as the first century AD. they only started to get big in france in the 1200s, when they were classified as "fish" and could therefore be eaten during Lent -- the meaty texture allowed monks to get their flesh fix....

Restaurants that serve FROG. Know of any?

I'm looking for a good recipe for frog (legs or otherwise), and was wondering if you knew of any restaurants -- either in the US, or abroad -- that served any good frog dishes.

Any ideas?

suggestions for a sky's-the-limit eating adventure tomorrow

a friend is in town tomorrow, and i had originally planned to go with him to per se, but we couldn't get the reservations worked out.

i promised him a culinary adventure just the same, and he is forgoing possibly getting to sleep with a very attractive person to go eat with me. so i gotta make it good, yo.

i have heard about a couple of tiny and awesome omakase-style sushi restaurants uptown that serve all sorts of weird and exquisite things like fish sperm etc etc, but i don't know their names.

also, it doesn't necessarily have to be insanely expensive. but it's ok if it's pricey. i'd be just as happy to find a tiny place with an amazing person running the show who can excite us with his/her creations...

this is also a bit of an adventure for me, because although i live here, i don't get to eat out in extravagant fashion. ideas?

best contemporary chinese restaurants in shanghai and beijing?

my friend mentioned a green t house that was in an all-white space somewhere on the outskirts of the city that was amazing, for both the food and the overall experience. which one of them (i see there are several) did she mean? do you happen to know?

due to a mix up, my host took me to fu 1039 and not fu 1088, which i hear is a much better meal. fu 1039 was good, but from what i understand more conventional and not as well-executed as 1088. thoughts?

another friend had discouraged me from trying whampoa club, said the food was unremarkable. now you are making me wonder what i missed...

i speak some chinese, but not enough to really talk food. but i'm happy to get a local friend to help me navigate a dinner. and as far as adventurousness levels, i've never met a food i wouldn't eat. that includes balut, hakkarl, scorpions, live things, etc. i eat it all.

best contemporary chinese restaurants in shanghai and beijing?

due to unfortunate circumstances beyond my control (grumpy travel partner, primarily) i was not able to make it to da dong restaurant. i will have to try hatsune on my next visit as well...thanks a ton for the info!

best contemporary chinese restaurants in shanghai and beijing?

sadly, there was a mix-up with a friend and he ended up taking me to fu 1039 and not 1088. 1039 wasn't bad, but i am going to have to try 1088 when i'm back next.

i'd been discouraged by a local friend (and well-traveled food-lover) from going to whampoa -- but now you leave me wondering what i missed...

Fresh Pandan?

any luck finding pandan leaves? i'd be interested to know...just came back from singapore and brought a jar of kaya with me and would love to make my own here.

hm, no responses. should i take that to mean there are none?

best contemporary chinese restaurants in shanghai and beijing?

hi there,

in china for the next couple of weeks, shanghai and beijing, and enjoying all of the traditional foods and street meat, but am very curious to try eating a modern interpretation of food using chinese ingredients or concepts (or a chinese-other cuisine fusion).

any restaurant suggestions most appreciated!

The shopping mall is dead. General Growth Properties, one of the biggest and most powerful mall-owners, has filed for bankruptcy.

It's been a long time since I've strolled past a Wet Seal or Sharper Image, but there's one thing I'll definitely miss: the food court and all of the utterly bad-for-you but viciously tempting goodies peddled within.

I'm curious: What food court foods do you consider to be the most classic examples? I can immediately recall Sbarro, Hot Dog On a Stick, Panda Express, Orange Julius, Cinnabon, Mrs. Field's and Auntie Anne's Pretzels (or some other pretzel joint). What else can you think of?

And of all these places, which nibbles did you love the most?

My favorites:

a frothy Orange Julius in a styrofoam cup

a gooey Cinnabon with that slimy cinnamon goo and runny icing

a burns-your-tongue hot Hot Dog On A Stick (eg a corndog) with accompanying pulpy lemonade
