early dinner with kids around the Market Street East station

I have to start by saying that I had to order without reading the menu. We were walking into the setting sun for a several blocks, and when I tried to look at the menu, in dim light (and I'm in my 50's), I couldn't read it at all. So, I relied on the waitress. She did suggest a seafood stir-fry for the kids, so I did need to "redirect" her a little.

We started with an wonderful, and very different, chicken satay with peanut sauce. Everybody liked that. My friend had the Beef with Ginger and Scallion, that was very good. I had a nice spicy hot Basil Chicken that was the best dish on the table. Three kids shared a Fried Rice Noodle with chicken. It had a very dark sauce, but they all ate it happily. They also had a big bowl of Wonton Mee - chicken soup filled with skinny egg noodles and pork filled "wontons" that were more like a dumpling with a tail. Both dishes were very good. One of the girls is a vegetarian, and she had Vegetable Fried Rice, which was green when it was served, but she demolished it, so the color didn't deter her.

So, the restaurant was a hit, and we liked the friendly atmosphere and open kitchen too. We'll definitely go back! Thanks for the great suggestion.

We did go to Banana Leaf and we LOVED it! Just the right distance, and great food. I wish I could have had a glass of wine, but you can't get everything!

I agree with you on the kid comments.

I'll check into Banana Leaf. I also just thought of Pho. I think there are some places right out Chinatown. Thank you.

Walking, and at the end of a long day. Taking the train home so we're trying to stay around Market East. We thought about the Reading Terminal market, but it closes at 6 pm.

Has anyone eaten at Trevi's at the Omni Championsgate?

The Omni did not have our room/villa on check-in day, and they graciously put us up in a very swank hotel. So, we didn't get to stay there (just returned over the weekend). But, we will be going back, and we're going to Disney, so the location is good for us. And everyone around there seems to charge resort fees and parking.

So, we're still looking for some restaurant suggestions for our next trip. Thank you!

Dinner after the Barners?

Think 4 middle-aged ladies who are adventerous eaters. Where should we dine after a Sunday afternoon at the Barnes?

Has anyone eaten at Trevi's at the Omni Championsgate?

It looks like you didn't get any replies. But, our family will be staying at the Championsgate villas in a couple of weeks,, and we were wondering about Trevi also. Did you eat there? Any thoughts on the hotel and dining opportunities? We have a 4 and 9 year old girls, and our 9 year old is a pretty adventerous eater. the 4 year old lives on air and cookies.

Thanks!

I have to agree on the "spare" part. I like a perfectly prepared small portion, but the last time we went to Lacroix, the food was microscopic! We always order every course, and dessert was more food than everything else combined!

Let's open up the discussion beyond the 3 safe choices. Think less "dress up" and more trendy. And yes, it's for Saturday night, and I'm know I'm late.

It's been a while since I needed a restaurant that meets those standards, but the babysitter is coming for this weekend, and we're going OUT! Your favorite spots for a fussy foodie, please.

The Porch at the Lamb Tavern in Springfield Delaware County

We've now gone several times. And with 2 young children, the back "Porch" with the fountain is wonderful! We'll have to try inside this winter. The food was very good, and the atmosphere is great. There are so few non-chain restaurants in the area, that we are pleased to have this dining option. The French onion soup is the best I've ever had - complex, not too salty. And we loved the calamari appetizer, and the shrimp wrapped in bacon. There is nothing too adventurious, but it's a good straightforward menu. Reminded me of what hotel restaurants used to feature. And they do participate in some dining clubs (cash back, etc.), so that's a plus too.

North End American Grille in North Wildwood

Thanks for the detail! I agree, all a little too much aggrevation for dinner, even on a Saturday night at the shore!

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by "disaster"? Are you saying it's a good place for a serious dinner?

Thank you!

North End American Grille in North Wildwood

I understand that Marie Nicole's restaurant in Wildwood Crest opened a new casual spot in North Wild wood, this summer. Has anyone eaten there, and what did you think?

Real New Jersey experience

And you can't get a real Jersey tomato before mid-July. Even if you buy it at a farm stand. It's not hot enough, long enough, till mid-summer to grow a proper tomato. And if you grow it in a hot house, even if the hot house is in NJ, it's not a Jersey tomato.

I have to agree that you should see the boardwalk in Wildwood . There is no place like it in the world, althought we may not all agree on the reason it's so unique! Mack's pizza is the gold standard, although I prefer Sam's. Douglas fudge is the absolute best - not sugary like the competitors. Ride the giant ferris wheel for an incredible view.

Willow Valley Resort looking for dinner nearby

When I look online, it shows the restaurant just minutes south of Willow Valley - not 10-15 minutes north in Lancaster City. It appears to be in a shopping center. Is that the right restaurant, and I agree, it sounds great!

Willow Valley Resort looking for dinner nearby

We're heading to Willow Valley this weekend, with a 2 and 7 year old. We plan to head out to a restaurant one night. Looking for a suggest for Saturday or Sunday night. Ethnic is fine, interesting is fine, chain restaurants are not.

Any suggestions for something close to the hotel?

Sycamore BYO, Lansdowne

It is a fabulous restaurant! If they are doing lobster night (usually during the weekn) don't miss it! Served complete out of the shell, and the best lobster I've every had. And the cheese and charcuterie is always outstanding. And the scallops! And and and....

Philly Chinatown Dim Sum

We love Joy Tsin Lau the best! We've tried Ocean Harbor a couple of times, but didn't find the incredible selection they have at Joy Tsin Lau. And they serve Dim Sum during the work week too. Just be sure to get there before 1 pm on weekdays - the start shutting down a little after that. And if you like sesam balls, grab them as soon as you see them - they always run out!

Restaurant suggestions around the Constitution Center

My friend and I are going to the Diana exhibit this Saturday, and are looking for a nice place for dinner after. Not too expensive, but not a sandwich place either! We've been to most of the places that have been around forever. Thanks!
