Restaurant Wedding in Toronto for 140-160 people

FYI , depending on the set up, George can seat 140 to 160 for a private function. The over sized doors to the private rooms open. Plus there is four hotel rooms that come in handy for weddings.

Great food near Disney

Hi, we are heading to Disney World next week, staying at the Holiday Inn Disney World and would like some help. We have 2 kids with us, ages 10 and 8 and we are looking for good food. We have a car and are willing to drive a short distence. We are mainly looking for every day casual places, but one or two high end spots would be great. Also looking for bakiers or supermarkets where we can buy fresh bread, fruit and snacks. We love all kinds of cuisine especially Asian and Italian. Does Disney world allow any food onto the grounds?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Zeppole Reco's....anybody?

Sadly you won't find any where in Toronto that makes good ones. I live down the street from Tre Mari and the pastries there are for the most part not good.

The best place for Zeppole or Italian pastries is in Missisauga. La Sem is the best and well worth the drive. Just make sure you ask for ones made the day off. If the ones on display are not fresh they will get some from the back or better yet you can pre order 1/2 a dozen or so and get them put aside.

There is also a new place across the street that opened up that makes them as well. The pastry chef used to be the pastry chef at La Sem. I can't rember the name, sorry.

Outdoor Wedding with Great Food

Hi, a friend of mine will be getting married in June 2009. She is looking for an outdoor wedding and wedding reception with great food. Another option would be just the outdoor venue and a caterer. It would ideally need to be near the Milton area but Toronto area is good as well. Budget is fairly open, not to expensive would be ideal. The venue would need to have indoor washrooms and changerooms. Thanks

Langolino : A Review

Pasta is the hardest thing to cook in a restaurant! The best pasta needs to be cooked to order, or at the very least cooked just before it is needed. Most restaurants don't, they cook it way before and if they don't sell it they use it the next day or even the next. Not to mention they need to know how to do it. The small bistro's can be the worst for pasta, most of the time they have some kid cooking this " simple dish "!

It is similar to the mentality of making a good espresso. People think it is so simple, so they have any one making it. Not so I say!!!

Swatow and the Bright Pearl- what's all the fuss about?

Let me help you out! Swatow is only good for the noodles with broth. Everything else is slightly better than a food court. Try their eggnoodle broth with Shrimp dumplings next time you go.

Help! King's Garden closed, looking for another Chinese restaurant for family outing

Hi inkygirl, how does E-Pan compare to Kings Garden?

Dynasty doesn't come close, we did not enjoy the food both times we went. Pearl is okay and would recommend it over Dynasty.

Lunch today

I know it is last minute but I am looking for a great lunch spot downtown or close to it, today. Something on the higher end but not Canoe or Bymark, I have been many times. Thanks

Toronto Star Review of One in Hazelton Hotel

That is a very interesting statement, not good interesting! She has the right to have an opinion just like everyone else who dines out, she just gets paid to write about it. I personally think she has been bang on with most of her reviews. Most people in the industry, don't like getting any negative feedback. I am sure the food at One will be good eventually. I also don't think Mark McEwan is worried.

JK Wine Bar, New Reservation Policy-A Joke!!

last time I went to JK Gardiner, I had to call a centerlized reservation line that took all the bookings for (at the time) all three of his restaurants. Is it still the same or can you call JK Wine Bar directly?

My expierence at JK Gardier was some what the same and I credit it to the fact that you are not calling the restaurant directly. We called the morning of and were told that they were completly booked and that we need to call three weeks in advace. We were trying to make an 11:30am or noon reservation(I can't recall exactly). I found it quite amazing that they would have no tables mid week and early to boot. So we just showed up, three of us and we were seated without any issues and had lunch, left around 1:30pm and the room was never full, I would say half full at its peak. I mentioned to a manager that I was told they were fully booked and he sayed he would look into it.

King's Garden - Closed?

we went to Pearl the same day we showed up at King's Garden and it was closed. We didn't enjoy it, just not the same quality and very expensive and very busy. I guess it is off to Dynasty this weekend but we weren't impressed two years ago when we last went. Is there anything else out there? La Wah Heen and anything in Chinatown is out as well!

King's Garden's problems started when they opened Golden Leaf in China Town.

Best Korean Food-Toronto

No one answered the original question! What is the best Korean restaurant in Downtown Toronto. Drove by Seoul House on Orfus, can't see how they can be the best when they have postings that claim that not only do they cook Korean but Thai and Japanese as well. Just seems like a chain restaurant to me.

Fine dining with children?

I am trying to keep this short but obviously when they are 1ish or younger we would keep in mind the dietary needs etc. But for example at 1ish my daughter ate the plain rice noodle rolls at dim sum or plain broth or noodles, bread. We would also maybe bring something small or feed them before we went out. I don't recall to much more than that at the moment but if your that skecptical I will run it by my wife and report back. All that I can tell you is that we have never left them at home with a sitter when we have gone out. The better restaurants like Perigee and Canoe have been more recent, but we have always brought the kids with us.

Fine dining with children?

We have always taken the kids out with us to all sorts of restaurants including fine dining since they were infants. We have had very few problems, some times it can get a bit long (like Perigee, because of the tasting only, 3hours for 4courses, but they cooked one dish each for the kids and a dessert each). We try to not be there for hours, so we won't do a 6 or 8 course tasting with wine to match and we always go early. We don't go to fine dining restaurants every week, I can't afford it but we do try to go once a month and once a week we go to places like Terroni, Lee Garden, Different noodle palces and dim sum. The kids grew up at Kings Garden, we go twice a month for dim sum. Ocassionally they are grumpy to start, espcially if they fell asleep in the car driving there but they are generally well behaved. We try to find something they like, at the beginning it was mostly bread, fries and plain nooles, and pizza, but now they are more adventorous especially the 6 year old.

Fine dining with children?

My wife and I have always taken the kids with us to dinner (they are now 4 and 6). We have been to Perigee, George, Lee, Canoe, Pangea, Boba, Scaramouche, etc. They are always very well behaved and we feel it is because we have always taken them to nice restaurants and most restaurants with the few exceptions have been more than accomadating. We always go early and we always try to find something on the menu or easy enough for the kitchen to make that it won't be to much of a stretch. My 4 year old asked to go to Canoe yesterday because she liked the bread and the view! One of the exceptions was Linda's, where we asked for a noodle to be made that wasn't spicy and we were told "we have a menu please order from it". We actually walked out and went to Lee Garden. I wouldn't worry about the dirty looks(even if you get them),because the kids learn so much about food and definetly become more adventurous, that it is worth it.

Worst/Best Tourist Trap Food in TO

King's Garden near the Royal Alex/Hummingbird is good, especially for dim sum. I agree the rest of them especially west of John are not.

Miso in Toronto

Hi are there any Japanese Grocery stores other than Sanko on Queen, downtown. I am specifcally looking for the better quailty miso's that Sanko sells. I find Sanko to be overpriced and the last time I was there, they service charged me $2 for using my Visa on a $30 bill. Thanks
