Van Nuys, California
Van Nuys is the armpit of the valley. I grew up and lived there for approx 25 years. The bright spots are Lidos Pizza, on Victory Bl/Sepulveda. This is the only place I have to go when I am back in the area. Adrians on Vanowen is solid for real italian food. Adrian is from the streets of South Philly and he brought some authentic recipes from the east coast. He and his wife Lucia run the place.
LaRocco's Pizzeria - A Quick Hit
LaRocco's is a solid NY pizza. I have had pizza in NY, Connecticut (Frank Pepe's) and every other city I have been too. This is a very good pizza, and for delivery in this area, you can't beat it
Culver City - Lunch Help
Have you tried Jackson Market. Great sandwiches, it's located on Jackson, South of Culver Bl, in a neighborhood. Tito's is also solid, and reasonable.
Culver City - Lunch Help
I agree. This is the first NY style pizza in this area that is worth eating. It is as good, or better than Mulberry St in Beverly Hills, but more reasonable prices.
Tito's Tacos vs Henry's
Titos is in a league of its own. It's not fair to compare Henry's. I have heard so much about Henry's lately, I had to try it. I had a soft shell beef taco, a hard shell beef taco and a beef and bean burrito. All I can say is,,,,WEAK. What a let down. I think taco bell and del taco are better. As for Tito's, there is a reason for the long lines. The tacos are awesome, and so are their shredded beef burritos.
Fraiche
The host (Thierry Perez, who is also the owner of the place) is a rude, arrogant punk. I think he has real problem with Americans. Too bad Jason Trevi (chef) is a partner with this guy. They opened another restaurant together in Santa Monica, which I anticipate will get the same poor reviews for service as Fraiche gets
Fraiche?
I wouldn't waste my time with Fraiche. The part owner who runs the front of the restaurant is a complete jerk and will most likely ruin your experience. The food is good, but with so many other great restaurants, I won't ever spend another dime in this place. For dining in Culver City, I would recommend Akasha, which was great. I also recommend Fathers office for a great burger, sides and huge selection of beer. I agree with you on Ford's,,,good, but not great
