paperbackwinter's Profile
What's missing from MSP's culinary landscape?
There's a new store in N.E. Minneapolis called Ziach. It's on 17th and Washington St. They carry all kinds of Polish food from Chicago. Big selection of pierogi, sausge and ham.
Heggie's Pizza (MSP)
Good pizza, but $8.99 for a frozen pizza? I'll buy Little Caesar's.
The decline of Porky's !
The people in the neighborhood never wanted the Porky's where it was and I thought they were gunning to close it. What's too bad is that the Burger King down the road close months after Porky's opened which would have been a perfect location. I think the neighborhood wold have approved of that. Now there are two empty burger joints on Central.
I think it was a combination of neighbors, $1 hamburgers at MacDonalds and declining food.
Take home perogies in MSP?
St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral on 5th st. N.E. is know for having pretty good pierogies. You have to boil them up at home, but they're good. I think a couple of other Churches sell them too but I don't recall any names. Drive around N.E. Minneapolis, all of the churches are withing a 10 block drive.
I don't think any of them sell pierogies during summertime, so you have to wait until September.
MSP--- Green Chili...? ? ?
Haven't been there in a while, but The Loon has a green chili stew that's pretty good. I call it stew because it doesn't look chili-ish to me, however, they group it with their chili. In fact, they have three other chilis that are pretty good, too.
MSP: Apple Orchard that MAKES pies
I've had the pies. Good. I buy the Dutch Apple, frozen, and bake at home. I do it every year and think it's pretty good pie.
(MSP) Northeast Social Club
Go down the road a bit to Sentyrz (17th Ave & 2nd St.). Wonderful Polish Sausage and Brats. They also do holiday sausages and specialty brats (e.g., jalapeno brats). Also consider the Krakowska.
Now if there was a good place to get Polish rye bread I'd be set.
Anyone eaten at Mariono's Deli in NE MSP?
Nice neighborhood restaurant. Get the submarino. I love it.
