Alpharetta/Roswell/Sandy Springs - Relocating NY Hound

Not Manhattan. We're in one of the small villages on the Hudson. Food shock is fun, though! Ohio to Los Angeles was the craziest one for me. Small town Ohio doesn't do sushi, pho, or boba. Anything but going back to Applebee's hell.

I'm definitely going to miss NY bagels, though.

Buford Hwy for ethnic, check! I'll make sure we at least drive through there to see.

Alpharetta/Roswell/Sandy Springs - Relocating NY Hound

My husband and I are doing a relocation scouting trip down to Atlanta from NY. My job will be in Alpharetta, and we're looking at Roswell or Sandy Springs as potential places to move to. Food is very high on our list of reasons to move to an area (like any good chowhounder).

Favorite restaurants in these areas? Hole in the wall ethnic is our favorite (Korean, Japanese, Indian, etc). Are there any good ramen restaurants? For ramen, we'll travel pretty far.

Or if any of these cities just have an awesome, cheap eats place, we'd love to check that out. Our food has been heavily influenced by living in Los Angeles and NY. What should we be eating in Atlanta?

Favorite breakfast/brunch places?

Thanks in advance!

What are the most overrated restaurants in Westchester?

Sweet Grass Grill in Tarrytown. I have had one fabulous meal there, 4 bland meals and 1 completely inedible meal. I've finally given up on it.

Rehearsal Dinner - NE Ohio. Please help a NY Hound out.

Marcelita's was my favorite restaurant when I was a kid! I happy it's still around. Thanks for the idea of booking there.

I went ahead and booked it. Happy childhood memories + cheap wins.

Rehearsal Dinner - NE Ohio. Please help a NY Hound out.

I would be very thankful if someone could help me out with recommending a good place for a rehearsal dinner for 20 people. I need to stay in the Stow/Kent/Streetsboro/Hudson area. We had originally planned on having it at the Rosewood Grill in Hudson, but they wanted to tack on a $50 "convenience fee."

The last time I lived in that area, all the restaurants were Applebee's-esque (*shudder* I used to work at that Applebee's, actually). Fancy, not-fancy doesn't matter to us. Under $30/pp would be nice. Way under would be even nicer. We're just looking for tasty.

Thank you!

Lunch in Stamford, Ct

Yeah, Crabshell was not the best meal I'd ever had, but sitting on the water...

Lunch in Stamford, Ct

There is absolutely NO pho in Westchester County, as near as I can tell. I live in NY, but I work in Stamford. I was really hoping I could get my pho fix there. :(

Lunch in Stamford, Ct

My co-workers and I are looking for new places to go out to or order in.

In our current rotation is:

Fiesta (love the green sauce. Not sure what it is, but so delicious)
The Fez (good, but not the best I've ever had. Service was very slow for a workday lunch)
K&S Top of the Hill Jamaican (The only Jamaican I've ever had, but I liked it!).
Crabshell (Way too expensive, but worth it on a beautiful day for sitting outside)
...And a Chinese place in old Greenwich whose name I can't remember. It's across from the fire station (Veggies are always crisp, a plus in Chinese food).

I will pledge my firstborn to anyone who can point me to a good Vietnamese place. I've been craving pho for the past year since I moved to NY from Los Angeles.

Penzey's Spices Coming to the Palisades Mall!

That has just made my day. I am almost out of paprika and I haven't had much luck finding good Hungarian paprika.

Downtown White Plains is Getting Sofrito & Pranzi

I would quite possibly kiss the feet of anyone who opened up a Vietnamese place, no lie. I miss pho.

Moon River Grill, Sleepy Hollow

I saw a write up of it in one of the local papers, and I was all excited because it described itself as low-country food. When I looked at the online menu, it didn't really reflect that. Chicken with spinach and mozz? Penne ala vodka? Not in any Savannah restaurant I've been to.

LA Hound transplanted to Sleepy Hollow

I'll be moving to Sleepy Hollow in two weeks. I've only had one weekend trip out there to apartment hunt, so I didn't really get a chance to see what's around. There will be a week or two while my stuff is being shipped that I'll be dining out every day.

So, my new fellow hounds, I'm in need of an entire set of places to eat. Breakfast lunch and dinner.

My fiance and I are used to good Asian foods, especially Vietnamese, Fillipino, and Japanese. Is there anywhere nearby that serves pho or ramen? Good Korean BBQ would be nice, too. How about Lebanese?

Once I can cook again, where can I find an awesome farmer's market?

Best Microbrew in South Bay or nearby area?

Does anyone have a favorite microbrew in the South Bay? Or the rest of Los Angeles? Friends are coming for a visit, and I want to take them to the best. If I have to sample all of the microbrews in Los Angeles to pick my favorite, well, I guess I'll just bear that burden. It'll be hard, I know.

I've been to the Red Car Brewery in Torrance. Amazing hot wings, but the beer was just okay.

Ortega 120 - My Mixed Experience.

I don't really eat much Mexican. I can't stand cilantro, but I'm slowly being able to tolerate it with exposure. Kinda. Depending on how it's used. Ortega 120 was one of my first times eating Mexican since moving to SoCal.

Ortega 120 - My Mixed Experience.

Your experience pretty much mirrors mine, except that instead of loud and busy, it was pretty slow. Still didn't stop my server from disappearing. At least your server had the excuse of being slammed.

I had the same entree. I've never had mole sauce before, but I did really like the flavor. The margarita was delicious. Almost as good as the ones I make, though not quite.

What Mexican places do you usually go to?

Where do you go to for INEXPENSIVE, good, tasty fish?

What do you get from Malibu Seafood Gril? The past couple times we've gone, everything has been bland and tasteless, with the exception of the soup, which was delicious.

Blueberry wine?

I'm feeling a bit homesick, and one of the things I really miss was this awesome little farm that made a tasty blueberry wine.

Does anyone know where I could purchase such a thing around here? Preferably in the South Bay area, but I'll travel.

Sushi near Disneyland?

Reporting back. My cousin said it was the best meal she's had in her entire life (she's from Ohio....) ! Thanks for the great rec.

Sushi near Disneyland?

It'll be my first time in a sushi-only bar. Omakase it is. Thank you very much. Hopefully my cousin likes it. I don't think she's ever had beyond the spicy tuna roll-style sushi, either.

Sushi near Disneyland?

Shibucho sounds great. $35/head is definitely a doable price. What would you recommend I get there? I don't object to sushi, but it's really not something I seek out. I'm perfectly content eating spicy tuna rolls, something I know sushi-lovers loathe.

Sushi near Disneyland?

Sometimes, it's so difficult living near a vacation destination! Y'all were so helpful last time, that I come begging again.

My cousin is vacationing at Disney in a few weeks, and she has specifically requested I take her for quality sushi. Cheap and delicious in Anaheim would be awesome, but delicious is the most important part.

TIA

Visitors from Ohio. Where to go?

Oh! I didn't know that Oaxacan and Yucatecan don't use cilantro. That opens up new food places for me. Thank you.

The Pancake House is because I like it. :) I'm footing the bill for this entire trip, so I get my pancakes.

Visitors from Ohio. Where to go?

So true on the ethnic. My family thinks I'm crazy when I say that pho is my new comfort food. They stared at boba in absolute confusion.

I have a friend picking up bakery from Porto's. What is Gloria's?

Do they put cilantro in everything? It's not that we don't like Mexican, as we've got the genes that makes things with cilantro taste like soap. Even a little bit that I pick out still ruins the flavor. The best description I've seen is that it doesn't taste like bad food we don't like. It tastes like it's not even supposed to be food.

Visitors from Ohio. Where to go?

I'm new to this board. I have family visiting from small town Ohio, where the only places to eat are Applebee's and such. I want to take them to places that they can't find back home. The catch is I need cheap. Ideally less than $10/pp. I live in Hermosa Beach, and we'll be visiting Loyola Marymount. I'm willing to travel for a must try, but I specifically need a place for dinner by Loyola Marymount.

Unfortunately, I think Mexican is out, as no one will touch anything with cilantro.

I already know I am taking them to Original Pancake House, Shin Sen Gumi ramen, and Versaille.

What do you think?
