Annisa - Yes the place is small and loud, but the food is delicious.

Anyone know if they do wine pairings with the tasting menus and, if so, how good the pairings are (i.e. is it worth doing the pairing or just going by the bottle)?

Drinks, but not a club scene.

Ward III in Tribeca might be just the kind of place you're looking for. Great cocktails, no pretense.

Is there ANY decent pizza on the UWS?!

That's a great point. I really like the Napoletana (anchovies, capers, and tomato sauce - no cheese).

Is there ANY decent pizza on the UWS?!

We checked out Buca last night. We really wanted to like it as it's a nice little place with great prices (which is all-too-rare on the UWS). The crust was great - not at all soupy in the middle like other Neopolitan places. However, the sauce and toppings were quite flavorless. Adding salt helped some but not much. We had the margherita and the tartufata.

Celebratory dinner, $100/person for food, EMP, Annisa, Corton, or...

Thanks RGR. Any preference between the two (recognizing that they are very different places)?

Celebratory dinner, $100/person for food, EMP, Annisa, Corton, or...

Yep, this won't be until June, but already made the reservations there. Thanks!

$125 is fine.

Celebratory dinner, $100/person for food, EMP, Annisa, Corton, or...

Hello -

We've got a 5-year anniversary coming up in May and are trying to decide where to celebrate it. We're thinking around $100/person for food only (not including drinks, tax, tip). Thoughts I've had:

EMP's 4-course dinner
Annisa's 5- or 7-course tasting
Corton (do they accommodate vegetarians?)
somewhere else?

Two caveats:
1) My wife is a vegetarian; I eat everything
2) We'll also hopefully be celebrating the one-month birthday of our first little one (who we'll be leaving with the grandparents), and so EMP's new 3-day cancellation policy might be a little tough (I've had enough friends with newborns who have had to cancel plans last-minute)

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Post Wedding Dinner??

Check out Maialino's wine room. it might be a little too small (I'm not sure about the max for the room).

Great to hear. Any specific details you remember? We're considering it for a special occasion coming up.

UHockey - are you planning to write up your Annisa experience? You've intrigued me with a few of your stray positive comments on it and I'm curious for more details as most other comments on here about Annisa have been quite mixed.
Thanks!

Tasting menu at Po

Went a couple months ago. The white bean ravioli in balsamic brown butter was pretty awesome and a must-get. Everything else was pretty good (can't remember what else we had).

Mendoza Wineries - Where to go and How to get there [moved from Wine]

Our favorites from our trip were Bodegas Benegas (LOVED it here), Patti, Achaval Ferrer, and Andeluna. Andeluna is actually owned by Pepsi so it's not family-owned but it definitely doesn't feel like a corporate endeavor. Azul is VERY small and very nice. Try to have lunch at Ruca Malen.
I also have the name and email of our driver who was awesome, so let me know if you want that. I think you definitely have to drive from place to place as the wineries are quite far apart.

Restaurant near W. 71 St.?

Nanoosh is terrible.

Good options in that area are Grand Sichuan, Hummus Place, and Saravana Bhavan for Indian. I haven't been yet, but other locations of Hummus Kitchen get good reviews and a location just opened at 80th and Amsterdam.
Kefi does a $16.95 prix fixe before 6:00 pm.

Is there ANY decent pizza on the UWS?!

The two best we've found in the 80s are Dean's and Primo Pizza 84 on 84th b/w columbus and CPW.
Sal and Carmine's is also excellent as mentioned above.

Cocktails and mocktails in a relaxed setting - Downtown

Hello all -

The wife is pregnant (and I'm not) and to celebrate this, we'd like to get drinks somewhere that does both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails creatively and well, with a fun but relaxed and comfortable bar area (i.e. sitting at the bar or at hightop tables; lounge tables are also fine). We've enjoyed the drinks at Raines Law Room, but I'm thinking of something a little more open and not as dark.
For example, the drink menu at Gramercy Tavern looks great and they even have a designated non-alcoholic selection.
Any other suggestions like this? Ideal locations would be the West Village, Flatiron/Gramercy, Soho, or Tribeca.
Thanks!

Mémé, wonderful mediterranean on Hudson St. (at 11th)

Thank you for the recommendation! A group of us just had a fantastic meal here. We had the combination platter, fried artichoke, ricotta gnocchi, and scallops from the small plates sized. Everything was generously portioned and excellent. From the entrees, we had the salmon, Meme's couscous, chicken tagine, mushroom ravioli, and a red grouper special. I didn't get to try any of the other entrees, but everyone seemed to really enjoy them. The grouper special had brussels sprouts and chanterelles. It was perfectly cooked.
Service was efficient and friendly.
In total with about 2 glasses of wine each, it was around $65 a person.
We'll definitely be back.

Chill bar with good food for a group of 15 - Loop or River North

Excellent - thanks everyone. We decided on Quartino. The reviews on here looked mixed, but the location and price work well.
Any recommendations on best things to get there?

Chill bar with good food for a group of 15 - Loop or River North

Hi all -
I'm trying to get a group of about 15 together this Sunday around 9 or 10 pm to have some drinks and food and to catch up. A decent tap selection and good food are pluses, but really the most important thing would be a place that could accommodate us, doesn't have a chain feel, and isn't too pricey (sandwiches, etc in the mid-teens).
Folks are staying at a bunch of different hotels in the Loop or River North so somewhere in those areas is ideal.
Thanks!

Pizzeria for a group dinner

Hi all -
Hopefully this doesn't turn into a "best" deep dish debate, but I'm planning a group dinner for about 10-15 people (coming for a medical convention) and thought going to a classic Chicago pizza place would be fun.
From reading the boards, it looks as though Uno, Due, Pizano's, and Malnati's are good possibilities. We have people staying all over the Loop and River North, so any of these would probably be convenient.
Does anyone have any experience with or recommendations for planning an event at any of these locations?

Thanks!

UWS - Best Places in 90's and 100's?

Long Grain Thai at 95th is good for standard Americanized Thai.
Agree with the Hummus Place suggestion.
Lisca is great.
Cafe Frida is overpriced and mediocre.
Absolute Bagels is fantastic.
Great gelato at Screme on 94th and Amsterdam.
Jerusalem for excellent falafel and schwarma.
