Jacksonville Dining
One thing you need to know is Jacksonville is very spread out, don't get frustrated though, there is plenty of good food. It really depends what you are looking for. Tento down in Jax Beach is a great Brazilian Steakhouse. Pussers in Ponte Vedra Beach right outside of Sawgrass is a nice Saturday afternoon outside spot. Fiann McCools in Jax Beach for Irish Pub. Bistro AIX in San Marco is always a good meal. For a good slice of pizza, hit Rennas at Town Center. BBQ is plenty down here, as well as seafood, too many too mention. If you narrow down your tastes a little bit, or your location, I might be able to point you in the right direction. Welcome to Jax.

The May issue of Coastal Living Magazine has a Seafood restaurant section for the country, with the top picks in coastal states. Singleton's Seafood Shack in Mayport was one of the three places chosen for all of Florida. It's nice to see a local place get some recognition. And they say there is nowhere to get good food in Jacksonville, ha!!!!

Opus 39 - St. Augustine - Best Restaurant in Florida?
95 Cordova is very good, especially Sunday brunch. Mothers Day there is an event as well for brunch. Opus 39 sounds great and have added it to the list. I also live in St. Johns county and travel to St. Augustine at least once a month, there are a few hdden gems in St. Augustine. Acalpuco is decent Mexiacn and a great view across from the fort. I forget the name, but there is a really good pizza joint on St. George St. And if you are in the mood for a beer at a real dive, hit the Tavern with water mill on the side of it, might be Old Mill Tavern or something like that. A1A Alehouse is half decent, and sitting upstairs on the deck on a nice day is worth the wait.

Culhanes Irish Pub in Atlantic Beach has some pretty authentic Irish food. I checked with a friend from Scotland that lives down in St. Augustine and have been told that there is not one authentic Sottish restaurant in North Florida, sorry...

Beach Diner, there is one in Ponte Vedra on A1A south of CR 210, and then another one in Atlantic beach on Atlantic Blvd, just west of A1A. Try the "Ultimate." I go to the one in Ponte Vedra at least once a month and have never been disappointed with a meal.

A little background, born and raised in NY, living in Jax for 8 years now. Best NY style pizza is Rennas at St. Johns Town Center, hands down. A good place for breakfast is Beach Diner (they have one in Ponte Vedra and one in Antlantic Beach), try the Ultimate. Nice dinner spot is Aqua Grill in Ponte Vedra. Good spot for a beer and some Guinness wings is Fiann McCools in Jax Beach.
Yes, bigger cities have better restaurants than Jacksonville, but there are plenty of good restaurants in this city. The only thing that makes it hard is that the city is so big and spread out, and there isnt one area that has better restaurants than another area of town. If you enjoy the search for that good meal as much as the good meal, then Jacksonville will satisfy your foodie needs. Also, don't forget about St. Augustine, there are some really good spots down there. try Acapulco right across from the fort for Mexican and a beautiful view if you can get a table on the deck upstairs.

Where is REAL NY pizza in Florida ?
Been to Tommy's twice and was not impressed. Born and raised NYer here. Closest thing to NY pizza in Jacksonville is Rennas, hands down. And Im not one of these people who haven't been back to NY and had a real slice in 15 years. I go back 3-4 times a year and definitely eat my share of pizza, and even bring some back here to FL to freeze.

Bruccis in Ponte Vedra and I think they have a place on Hodges is very good. Rennas is the closest place though to NY style pizza, it could hold its own in any neighborhood in the 5 boroughs. I visit Rennas at St. Johns Town Center at least once a month. Pepperoni pie well done, just like Brooklyn.

New Haven, CT home of the best pizza in the US???? NYC is the home of the best pizza in the US, hands down. I know New Haven has a couple of places featured on the Travel Channel, but NYC is by far head and shoulders above any other part of the country. The amount of good pizza joints alone make it better. Then you have the classics like Patsy's, Grimaldi's and John's, you can't compare New Haven, CT to NYC. I was born and raised in Bklyn, NY and there were 2 pizza places on every block, not saying they were all great, but I could probably name more pizza places in my neighborhood alone, then in all of New Haven that serve a better pie.

Argentinean Steakhouse in Jax?
Tento in Jax Beach is on 1st Street and 4th Ave N. and is a Brazilian Steakhouse. Very good food and decent prices, great location near bars and beach. There is also another place called Espeto, which is in the Avondale area, I haven't been there, but have heard very good things.
