Spice Goddess on Cooking Channel
I guess it's not your cup of tea, but boy that's a lot of hate. I don't think she's positioned herself as offering classic Indian cooking but rather a more modern twist on everyday cooking for family and friends with Indian flavors. (There's another Indian cooking show that tends to focus on regional Indian cuisine.) I think in general many of her recipes are far healthier than many popular Indian recipes and other shows on the Food Network/Cooking Channel. I've tried several of her recipes and will continue to do so. I think she brings some good flavors to simple, quickly prepared fresh food. If I want the food of Indian restaurants in the US and Europe, I'll go to them. If I want to spice up my everyday cooking, I'll look to her guidance. Again, we all have our viewpoints.
Spice Goddess on Cooking Channel
I agree. A little too much oohing and ahhing when tasting, but I think her recipes sound terrific and I have her show set to record on my DVR.
Boy is that kitchen pristine! I wish she'd spill a little turmeric.
Love those ancient grains
I make one that's similar to a greek salad (tomatoes, cukes, olives, red onion-optional) with wheat berries, garbonzos, and a tahini vinaigrette. Meal in a bowl!
Southern vegetarian cooking
I'd probably be interested in such a cookbook, but I would look for it to be on the healthier side.
On a side note, one trick I have for getting that old smoky taste into vegetables (obviously from bacon) is to add a dried chipotle to my beans or collards when cooking them.
Good restaurants near great lakes naval station
Thanks. Inovasi definitely sounds like the winner. I appreciate the help. The others will be great too as we'll be there a few days.

Good restaurants near great lakes naval station
OK, several years later and I too am heading to Great Lakes for graduation. Any thoughts on good meals for a hungry sailor (and his parents)?
What's the dress code at BLT Steak?
Hi, taking our family to BLT Steak Saturday night as a send off to our son going into the Navy nuke program. What's the dress code? I saw "upscale casual," but can we get away with "Saturday casual hanging out in the city"--especially given we have a 17-year-old guy with us too. Thanks for any guidance.
Liptauer?
Yum. I forgot about this, and it's the perfect time around the holidays to make some. I've always used Nigella's recipe with good results--as long as there are pumpernickel bagels around.
Oh glorious day! Oh wonderful year! Oh lucky me! I finally, finally, finally get to host Thanksgiving. I banish thee jarred gravy (tell me about your single favorite dish)
I would love the oyster stew recipe please!
I’m finally done with my family cookbook! (lessons learned + a recipe)
Congratulations on your accomplishment! I did one for my Mom several years ago, and this year I'm doing an update. . .or I guess you'd call it a second edition. I printed my original one similarly to yours at Kinkos, so I'm glad to hear that it is still a good option. (I looked as some online book services but they seemed very limiting in the number of recipes per book and that you needed a picture on each page to follow their template.)
Now I just need to get moving on this project for the holidays! Thanks for the inspiration.
Ginger Preserves - what to do with them?
A nice soft whole wheat bread--or brown bread as she calls it. I imagine almost anything would work well.
Ginger Preserves - what to do with them?
I can attest that Nigella's Ginger Jam Bread and Butter Pudding is great. The recipe is on the Food Network's website. The raisins--golden I believe--are rum-soaked.
morels in Kennett Square
Wegmans for chanterelles. Morels are typically a spring item, no?
What to do with lamb liver?
I purchased a whole lamb for the freezer, and I only have the liver left. Any recommendations?
anchovy stuffed olives
I've never been able to keep them around long enough to cook with them. I'd open a nice bottle of white wine or better yet, dry sherry, grab some almonds and the olives, and enjoy the last bits of summer!
Best and Worst of No Reservations
Was that the meat originally identified as squeazle? That still makes me laugh out loud!
What's good in the Berkshires
We're heading to Lenox for a long weekend on Thursday. Any suggestions for good dinners that aren't fine dining (we are going very casual) or good lunch spots? Just looking for good food. . .not too heavy. Ethnic good too.
Favorite summer sandwich recipes?
Some veggie--not vegan--options. The classic Southern favorite: tomato and a bit of good mayo. I also like:
Good peanut butter with sprouts and cucumbers.
Boursin with tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, arugula, sprouts.
Over easy egg with tomato, lettuce, and onion.
Cheddar, avocado, lettuce, tomato, sprouts, sunflower seeds, and chipotle-spiked mayo.
Food Magazines? Which is your favorite?
I like Donna Hay's magazine. The photography is gorgeous (each recipe has a photo to boot; I believe she was a food stylist originally), a good mix of fresh foods--vegetarian, carnivore, and ethnic options. I have a huge stack of them that I go through over and over again. Only downside is that it's Australian, so the seasons are opposite. (That's a good reason to keep a stack of them.) You can subscribe via Amazon or general Barnes & Noble and Whole Foods carries it. Generally, the recipes aren't too difficult, and you taste the ingredients, which is a big plus in my book.
Tradewinds coffee drive-thru in Paoli
Sad to report that this fabulous drive-through coffee shop (with great La Colombe coffee!) in Paoli is shutting its window as of Thursday. Will truly miss their great hot coffee, fabulous iced coffee with coffee ice cubes, pounds of La Colombe for purchase, and downright flirty service. Also loved their coffee sleeves that said, "This coffee is hot, and so are you." Middle-aged suburban folks like me were amused. In the vein of Samuel L. Jackson in Snakes on a Plane, "D*mn you, economy!"
Soup for a cold needed -- not chicken soup
Martha Stewart has a great tofu-kimchi soup that I love when I'm sick. I love it with or without the chicken thighs.

Cornmeal Madeline Recipe?
Apples and Butter had this recently.

Exton Area Butcher
Try Worrell's Butcher in Malvern proper (on King Street). You might need to order some things, but they should be able to accommodate you.
Recs for lunch tomorrow in Italian Market [moved from Home Cooking]
My sister is visiting from Alabama and wants to wander the Italian Market tomorrow. Any recommendations for lunch right around there? I haven't been down there in a couple of years. I'm planning to park at 9th and Washington, and it sounds like we have a rainy forecast. Thanks.
Anyone tried Daddy Mimms' Creole in Phoenixville?
Has anyone tried this restaurant yet? I was hoping to find a menu online, find out if it's good, and if it has any veggie entree items.
Snacking Food
Popcorn tossed in olive oil with chile powder and lime.
Make a spicy version of Mark Bittan's polenta pizza (polenta as crust, skip the cheese). Could do a thin layer of smashed beans (or refried beans), with veggie topings (and cheese and/or Greek yogurt on the side for non-celiacs).
Spicy hummus with crudite (including endive for scooping). There are lots of gluten free products (e.g., chips) at Whole Foods, etc.
You can make salami chips (bake slices of salami til crisp).
Best dishes for shut-in, ill mother-in-law
Perfect! I didn't even think of that and now it seems so obvious. THANK YOU!
Best dishes for shut-in, ill mother-in-law
She no longer keeps Kosher, so that's an idea. Thanks. She's diabetic but also has advanced lung cancer, so her docs have lightened up on recommending a diabetic diet.
Best dishes for shut-in, ill mother-in-law
My mother-in-law is very ill and heading home after a couple of weeks in the hospital. I'd like to keep her fridge full from week to week with dishes that her home health aide can easily heat up in the microwave and that will keep her interested in eating. She's in her 80s, Jewish, and lives in Brooklyn, so it's probably best not to compete with the hundreds of great Italian restaurants. Any suggestions for good soups, quiches, and casseroles? I'd like to keep it healthy but still very tasty.
Thoughts so far:
Chicken soup
Mushroom-barley soup?
Tomato soup?
Butternut squash soup?
Entrees
Mushroom casserole
Tuna casserole?
Quiche
Stuffed cabbage
Nigella's brownies (she definitely has a chocolate thing so she can have a treat)
Muffins
