Not sure about the weekends. Did anyone see the hours?
Cheap Eats in Astoria
Where in Astoria are you? Try the Halal cart at 30th and Broadway. 6 bucks for a huge plate of delicious chicken and rice. Best deal in the neighborhood. Also a lot of really good inexpensive Mexican food up and down Broadway.
Uncle Georges CLOSED
They were just closed for a bit a few years ago. What a waste of space, that place blows.
Schnitzel truck spotted in Cobble Hill
saw them in Union Square today. tried the bratwurst sandwich with kraut. really first rate.
Chengdu Heaven -- the best Sichuan food in a tiny basement stall at the 41-28 Main St Mall, Flushing
this thread became impossible to follow 3 months ago, is it possible to start a new one? I love reading about this place.
Best pint of Guiness in Woodside or Astoria?
It looks like you've already had a few...lol. You've posted this like 10 times. Try Cronin & Phelan's on Broadway @ Steinway.
What about the Bronx?
Went this afternoon from Astoria after reading this. The duck soup was EXCELLENT as was the roast pork sandwich. Will go back for the crab soon.
Yi Pin Chinese Cuisine: Under New Management?
I was just there yesterday and was saddened to see new owners.
Yipin Chinese Cuisine in Flushing - interesting
I was just there yesterday and the first thing I thought was: new ownership. They didn't have the whole wheat noodles and the menu was stripped down a bit. They took off my favorite thing besides the noodles which is this scallion and egg stuffed pancake. I had a couple of different kinds of dumplings that were sitting on the counter. All very good but not really worth going back for.
Smoked fish & appetizing in Queens
Acme Smoked Fish in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Only on Friday morning, just went this morning.
I don't know if it is because business is slow due to the economy but the selection was ten
times what it normally is today.

Superlative Japanese Restaurant in Astoria
none of what i heard was from a review. word of mouth is that the food runs from mediocre to bad with the service being pretty much the same.
seva - good indian in astoria!
i got take out this week. chicken jal fry, asked for it spicy, it was, and damn good.
i'm grateful for this place in the hood.
Foodie Neighborhood?
I didn't read all the reply's so if this is already mentioned forgive me. Astoria
has all you're looking for EXCEPT a good farmers market, but that is an easy train away at the Union Square Farmers Market. I find it very easy to jump on the train or if I happen to be down there already, shop and you're home in no time.
Lucky Eight Fantastic -- Others in Sunset Park?
can somebody post an address to this place. thanks.
Spiedini al Romano in Queens?
It's not Queens but Cono and Sons on Graham Ave. in Williamsburg makes good Spedini.
It's one block from the Graham Ave. stop on the L train.
Meals while I'm back in New York
I went today, it was killer. I love the homemade wide noodles that get rolled out to order. Nose running and sweating, all things that make a good, spicy Chinese meal in my book :) Side note: there was no one in line at the Peking Duck Sandwich place so I jumped on it and had one, VERY much worth .75 cents. Thanks for the info.
Meals while I'm back in New York
"on Mondays) and ate a bowl of lamb noodle soup at the Xi'an stand."
Can you (or anyone) give me an address of the lamb noodle soup place?
Thanks.
Jewish Deli Recommendation?
I went to Ben's in Rego Park for the first time about a month ago and I won't be going back. The food is mediocre at best, the sandwiches are stacked to look like more then they are (more in the middle less on the sides) and the pastrami had a bolonga taste to it. I took one bite of the microwaved potato pancakes (latkes) and didn't touch them again, hard as a rock, rubbery and inedible. I guess I've been spoiled by Katz Deli when it comes to pastrami. Just my 2 cents.
Arepas Cafe Long Island City
Uh oh, this place looks like it could be a problem :)
I'm gonna check it out later.
Thanks for the info.
Philoxenia on 34th Ave.
There has been a renovation to an empty restaurant space going on 34th Ave between 32nd and 33rd streets for a while now. I rode by today and there is a sign saying PHILOXENIA COMING SOON. I hope its the same people from Philoxenia up near Ditmars, that place was great and I was sorry to see it go.
Bohemian Beer Garden
Get there as early as you can to avoid the crowds.
You don't need to drink beer or at all to enjoy it.
Great Greek in Astoria
the mix grill for two Astoria Lurker speaks of is AWSOME. the ingredients change by what they have available. it is a great way to taste a lot of what bz grill has to offer. it is meant to be
shared and it is only around $15 bucks.
SoulFood on Crescent Street?
walked by today and saw someone inside for the first time. he said they were opening monday, will have menus tomorrow....fingers crossed.
Need suggestions in Astoria
I think you are talking about a place in Oregon, the poster is talking about a neighborhood in Queens, New York City.
Frozen Tamales?
Costco has not frozen, pre cooked, heat and eat tamales that I freeze and then steam. Al Pastor is the only kind I've ever seen. 8 or so to a bag. Very good. Not what I get from the Mexican places in Astoria, but they are still good.
5 Star Punjabi: LIC
that area is where silvercup studios was recently approved to build a huge complex of several sound stages along with several high rise mixed use condo/rental buildings. MAJOR changes coming to that area.
Craving: Chicken Cutlet Sandwich
Sal's Pizza on Lorimer Street one block south of Metropolitan Ave makes an EXCELLENT chicken cutlet sandwich. Hero bread though, no round roll. They also make a killer Potato and Egg hero. I used to order the P&E with onions and cheese, #1 cure for a hangover.
Ahh, the good old days in Williamsburg before the Hipster/Yuppies wrecked that neighborhood.
