Boothbay Harbor in June (and Rt. 1 in between)

Love Bett's Fish Fry - no inside seating and only open weekdays and lunch on Saturday.

Frontier in Brunswick had a great lunch - good cocktails too I remember, It's been a couple years though. Location overlooking the dam was fun. Just off route 1.

Why Yelp is useless (Boston discussion on their "Top 100 places to eat!" article

Seriously missing the, now-defunct, mobile Zagat app. Reviewers tended to be real food lovers - maybe because for a long time you had to pay, but results were much more aligned with reality my opinion. The 30 point scale had sufficient resolution. (Everything on Yelp is 4 stars). Separate ratings for food, ambiance, service. It had a great filter, "find all 25 point plus restaurants within 1/4 mile". Yelp is useful only for the map. Now the Zagat rating you see on Google is watered down, less resolution and more people who don't know what they are talking about.

Dinner in/near Burlington - help for a NY 'hound!

Nu Jang Su Korean BBQ was pretty good years ago when we tried it. On 3A.

We like eating in the bar area at the Capital Grill - just north off 95. Entrée tend to be huge there, two of us usually share one salad, one app and one steak , so costs less than expected.

Or make a pilgrimage up to Newburyport and try Ceia. Less pricey than L'Andana and more of a 50th birthday celebration place. Bit of a haul though.

Yuzu juice in the city

A couple days ago just saw bottled Yuzu on the shelf at Williams Sonoma in the Chestnut Hill Mall. Might be worth calling a branch in Copley to see if they carry it too.

Casual Bachelorette for 6-8pp -- tapas

For a girls night, if you think Central square is possible, consider Cucchi-Cucchi. Huge, fun, girlie drinks. Tapas that are a bit cross cultural. Some nights there is a fortune teller. It's just a fun place for a gno

Blizzard cooking at home - what's on your menu? [moved from Boston]

Hit Whole Foods Fresh Pond on the way home from work last night, crowded, but none of the lines that seemed to be in all the grocery stores in the 'burbs. Made the N.Y. Times Chocolate chip cookie dough recipe last night, so it would be ready for today - just baked a batch. Put a picnic shoulder in the crock pot this a.m. for pulled pork sandwiches tonight with homemade kale-coleslaw. Tomorrow - grilled cheese and tomato/roasted pepper soup for lunch (I love grilled cheese after playing in the snow) and pasta with porcini meatballs and salad for dinner.

Maine - Bath, Brunswick, Boothbay area recommendation?

Seems there has been a lot of shifting of great chefs around from restaurant to restaurant in the Bath, Brunswick, Boothbay Harbor area based on messages from the last couple years on the boards. Where is great food in that area NOW? We are heading up there next weekend. Casual or more high end suggestions all welcome. Thanks

Speed's Hotdog (Now Boston Super Dog) at Charlestown Navy Yard this week

Last year I finally decided to make a pilgrimage from Cambridge to Newmarket Square to visit Speed's hotdogs, only to find it closed on Mondays. Ugh. THIS time (Tuesday July 3rd), I checked their website first. Phew!, because they were at Charlestown Navy Yard that day, with plans to be there for the week. So, I got to try their awesome dog AND check out the park a bit and see some tall ships and aircraft carriers from afar.

I got there at prime time 12:30, and found no line, fast service. I got a dog loaded and enjoyed it on one of the many benches and shady grassy spots available. Totally worth the trip. This IS a yummy hotdog. The owner said business had been slow (all those tourists just aren't in the know!), so check their website to confirm location, but this is a great time to make a trip to Boston Super Dog.

Looking for a few Boston spots to grab a quick single course at the bar, for an anniversary night out.

We've done a few dinners like this, restaurant crawl style. The area in the south end home to Hammersley's, The Butcher Shop, B&G Oyster, Sibling Rivalry and 28 Degrees was perfect for it. Hammersley's bar is smallish - but turns over. Inman Square in Cambridge works nicely too, Ole, East Coast Grill and Christina's (more of a with-kids crawl)

Hopping Back Bay restaurant for girls weekend.

I would definitely place Mistral in the GNO catagory, at least for 30-40 ish "girls". the bar area has a lot of energy. I would also walk over to 28 Degrees, butchershop, etc in heels from Jurys.

First date on Friday night?

"Scotch/Bourbon/Whiskey at the bar" made me think of Hungry Mother in Cambridge. They always have interesting brown-liquor drinks on their cocktail menu. I ate there last week and it felt really cozy but with a good vibrant buzz, nice for a first date. 10 minute walk from the Kendall Sq T, Parking one block down next to Kendall Sq Cinema.

Good Food in Sugarbush, VT.

The Green Cup serves dinner on the weekend and it was wonderful when we tried it last year. it is tiny, cozy and the food was creative and very good. american flatbread is really fun with terrific thin crust pizza, but you really have to queue up early (4:30) to be sure you'll get in at a reasonable time.

Rosie's bakery

They do cakes to order, so next time you need a birthday cake, call a couple days ahead and get a Queen Raspberry (choc. cake, fudge and raspberry fillings, mocha buttercream.). The buttercream frosting really is amazing and I've made the cake from the cookbook and it takes a LONG time, so it feels like you are getting your money's worth when you buy it. This way you avoid wondering how long something has been sitting in the display case.

Help - A drink at a pewter / zinc bar?

Bomboa on Stanhope street took over the location of a restaurant called Zinc a few (8?) years ago. Zinc was so named for its huge,20ft + long, zinc bar. I know the zinc bar stayed on as a part of Bamboa way back then. They may have since made some changes to their decor, but it may still be there.

Kendall Square: The Boston's Area's Next Restaurant Row?

But, if a place is good enough - diners will come. Just look at Hungry Mother. And it seem like there is still untapped opportunity in the dinner and a movie option with the Kendall Square Cinema - the Quantum Books location is a quite close and it wouldn't take much to trump Cambridge Brewing Co. food offerings.

Tell me which Concord Area restaurants a Camberville Foodie would like?

Thanks for the report on Spicepepper garden - will definitely try it, as options in Concord for Chinese are lacking to say the least. We made our way out to Concord 17 years ago now and I thank god I still work in Cambridge so I can more easily get a fix of old/new favorites. And still, for any sort of date night - we head into Boston/Cambridge or at least as far as Waltham. I feel your pain.

Best Boston Burger

As obscene as $18 is for a burger, I'd order one at Cragie on Main again. All that grass-fed organic yadda yadda beef, a brioche bun, what's not to love? I think it had tiny little onion strings and a great fennel salad on the side too when I tried it. Plus, those great cocktails to go along with, yum.

Visiting Boston with a Shellfish Allergy…

We dine out with a nut/peanut allergic child. From my experience, and from information in an interview with the chef, Oleana in Cambridge takes food allergies very seriously. They don't specialize in fish, so may have more options for you. Plus, the food is wonderful. (Mediterranean/north african)

East Coast Grill (also in Cambridge), does specialize in fish, but has many other options, including BBQ. They have established a careful procedure of relaying food allergy info to the kitchen and will repeat that they know your issue and give you a little piece of paper that says your food is allergy free. Comforting.

Blue Ginger is a bit tougher to get to, but it is terrific too.

Ideas for drinks outside, Boston, on the water, music a plus?

Friends coming into Boston/Cambridge, looking to have drinks outside on Thursday night, hopefully on the water, even better if there is music. Only place I can think of is Rowes Wharf, there is some sort of Thursday night Blues Barge and I'm pretty sure we can eat/drink outside. Anyone know the details on that or have another, better, idea?
